Name Description

Joe Mansueto

Mr. Joe Mansueto has been named as Executive Chairman of the Board of the Company., effective January 1, 2017. He was Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer of the Company. Mr. Mansueto founded Morningstar in 1984. Joe holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from The University of Chicago and a master's degree in business administration from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Kunal Kapoor

Mr. Kunal Kapoor has been appointed as President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of the Company., effective January 1, 2017. He has been president of Morningstar since October 2015. He joined Morningstar in May 1997 and held a number of analyst and leadership positions for Morningstar from then until July 2007. In July 2007, Kunal was promoted to president and chief investment officer of Morningstar Investment Services, a registered investment adviser subsidiary of Morningstar. In January 2009, he became president of Morningstar’s individual investor software business, which includes Morningstar.com, Morningstar’s investment website. In June 2012, he was promoted to president of Morningstar’s data business. In May 2013, Kunal was promoted to the position of head of global client solutions, and in January 2014 his role was expanded to head of global products and client solutions. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and environmental policy from Monmouth College and a master's degree in business administration from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Stephane Biehler

Mr. Stephane Biehler is Chief financial officer of the Company. Mr. Biehler is responsible for corporate finance, accounting, tax, and investor relations. He joined us in 2013 and previously served as executive vice president, chief accounting officer, and corporate controller for NYSE Euronext, a global operator of financial markets, since 2007. Before the 2007 merger of NYSE Group with Euronext to form NYSE Euronext and the 2006 merger of Archipelago Holdings with the New York Stock Exchange to form NYSE Group, he was managing director and corporate controller for Archipelago Holdings, which he joined in 2004.

Daniel Needham

Mr. Daniel E. Needham is President, Chief investment officer - Morningstar Investment Management Group. He is responsible for building world-class investment management solutions based on our proprietary research. Before taking on his current role in February 2015, he served as CIO for Morningstar Investment Management, and was previously managing director and CIO for Morningstar Investment Management’s Asia-Pacific Operations. He joined our company when Morningstar acquired Intech Pty Ltd (now Ibbotson Associates Australia) in 2009, where he served as chief investment officer. Before joining Intech in 2002, Daniel worked for Zurich Financial Services in Sydney. He holds a bachelor's degree in commerce with a major in finance and economics from the University of Sydney. He also holds the CFA designation.

Mitch Shue

Mr. Mitch Shue serves as Chief Technology Officer of the Company. As chief technology officer, Shue is responsible for Morningstar's long-term technology vision and execution. He joined Morningstar in 2014 through the company's acquisition of HelloWallet, where he served as chief technology officer. Prior to HelloWallet, Shue was vice president of engineering at Centrifuge Systems, developing interactive data visualization solutions. He previously led the graphic design, engineering, and data center teams at webs.com and served as vice president of product development at webMethods.

Robert Pinkerton

Mr. Robert B. Pinkerton is Chief Marketing officer of the Company. He is responsible for overseeing our global marketing organization and corporate communications. He joined Morningstar through our June 2014 acquisition of HelloWallet, where he served as chief marketing officer. Before joining Hello Wallet in 2012, Rob was a senior director for Adobe Systems, a computer software company, beginning in 2007. He previously served in executive marketing and product roles with LexisNexis and Siebel Systems (which was acquired by Oracle). He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, and history from the University of Richmond, a juris doctor degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, and a master’s degree in business administration with concentrations in information technology management, marketing, and strategy from Carnegie Mellon University.

Don Phillips

Mr. Don James Phillips, II, is a Managing Director of the Company., effective December 31, 2016. He was Managing Director, Director of Morningstar Inc. He served as head of global research during 2013. He joined us in 1986 as our first analyst. He served as our vice president and publisher from 1991 to 1996, as our president from 1996 to 1998, as our chief executive officer from 1998 to 2000, as our president of fund research from 2009 to 2012, and as our president of the Investment Research division from 2012 to 2013. He has served on the Board since August 1999. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in American literature from The University of Chicago.

Bevin Desmond

Ms. Bevin Desmond is Global Head - Markets and Human Resources of the Company. She is responsible for identifying, developing, managing and directing international operations, and overseeing human resources functions for all of Morningstar’s global operations. Previously, she was head of international operations from 2001 until 2010. She joined Morningstar in 1993. Bevin holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from St. Mary's College.

Haywood Kelly

Mr. Haywood Kelly is Head of Global Research of the Company. Before taking on his current role in January 2014, he was head of equity and credit research since 2009 and took on additional responsibility for equity data in 2013. Haywood joined Morningstar in 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Chicago, where he graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He also holds the CFA designation.

Catherine Odelbo

Ms. Catherine Gillis Odelbo is Head- Corporate Strategy and Partnerships of the Company. She is responsible for working with Morningstar’s senior management team on the company’s overall strategic planning process, mergers and acquisitions, and major partnerships. She has been in this role since 2012. Previously, she was president of equity and credit research from 2009 to 2012. Cathy joined Morningstar in 1988. She holds a bachelor's degree in American history from The University of Chicago and a master's degree in business administration from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

James Rhodes

Mr. James Rhodes serves as Chief Data Officer of the Company. Rhodes oversees data operations at Morningstar, focusing on the company's data technology strategy, including data collection, processing, and storage. He previously served as chief technology officer and partner at Rocaton Investment Advisors, LLC, where he drove the company's technical vision and oversaw the software engineering team. Rhodes also spent 13 years at IBM Research, where he led the financial modeling research efforts of IBM's Global Services business units.

James Tanner

Mr. James Tanner is Head of Global Business Development and Sales of the Company. He joined us in January 2013. Previously he served as CEO of Markit On Demand, an Internet technology company he founded as Wall Street On Demand in 1991. In addition to his role as founder and CEO of Wall Street On Demand, he served in various roles for the firms that have owned Wall Street On Demand, including vice chairman for business development for Markit in 2012, head of distribution for Markit in 2010 and 2011, and division head for Goldman Sachs from 2006 to 2010. James holds a bachelor’s degree in Russian language and literature from Haverford College and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University.

David Williams

Mr. David W. Williams is Head of Design of the Company. He is responsible for corporate design and its application to brand identity, products, communications, and the workplace. He also oversees all aspects of Morningstar's design as it relates to our other core capabilities in research and technology. He joined us in 1993. David holds a bachelor's degree in industrial design from The Ohio State University and a master's degree in fine arts from the Yale University School of Art.

Robin Diamonte

Ms. Robin Diamonte is Director of the Company. She has been vice president and chief investment officer of United Technologies Corporation, a diversified company providing high-technology products and services to the global aerospace and building systems industries, since 2004. Before joining United Technologies Corporation, she held several positions during her 12-year tenure at Verizon Investment Management Corporation, the asset management arm of Verizon Communications Inc., rising from research analyst to managing director. She holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Haven.

Cheryl Francis

Ms. Cheryl A. Francis is an Independent Director of the Company. She has been co-chair, Corporate Leadership Center, a not-for-profit organization focused on developing tomorrow’s business leaders, since August 2008 and vice-chair from 2002 to August 2008. She has been an independent business and financial advisor since 2000. From 1995 to 2000, she served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, a print media company. She currently serves as a member of the board of directors of HNI Corporation and Aon plc. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a master’s degree in business administration from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Steven Kaplan

Dr. Steven N. Kaplan Ph.D., is an Independent Director of the Company. He served as a member of our advisory board beginning in 1998 and was elected to the Board in August 1999. Since 1988, he has been a professor at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he currently is the Neubauer Family Distinguished Service Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and economics from Harvard College and a Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard University. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Columbia Acorn Funds and formerly served on the board of directors of Accretive Health, Inc.

Gail Landis

Ms. Gail Landis is an Independent Director of the Company. She was a founding partner of Evercore Asset Management, LLC, an institutional asset management firm, and served as managing principal from 2005 until her retirement in December 2011. From 2003 to 2005, she served as head of distribution for the Americas for Credit Suisse Asset Management, the asset management division of Credit Suisse AG. From 1981 to 2002, she served in senior roles with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., Inc. and its successor company AllianceBernstein L.P., a global asset management firm. She holds a bachelor’s degree in East Asian studies from Boston University and a master’s degree in business administration from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

William Lyons

Mr. William M. Lyons is Independent Director of the Company. He served as president and chief executive officer of American Century Companies, Inc., an investment management company, from September 2000 until his retirement in March 2007. From 1987 to 2000, he served in other capacities at American Century Companies, Inc., including as general counsel, chief operating officer, and president. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of NIC Inc. and The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC, Nasdaq BX, and Nasdaq PHLX, all wholly owned subsidiaries of the Nasdaq, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University and a juris doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law.

Jack Noonan

Mr. Jack Noonan is an Independent Director of the Company. He served as a member of our advisory board beginning in 1998 and was elected to the Board in August 1999. He is a private investor and served as transition executive of International Business Machines Corporation, a leading manufacturer of information technologies, from October 2009 to December 2009. From January 1992 to October 2009, he served as president and chief executive officer of SPSS Inc., a software company specializing in predictive analytics. From January 2008 to October 2009, he also served as chairman of the board of directors of SPSS Inc. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Fleetmatics Group PLC and Lionbridge Technologies, Inc.

Paul Sturm

Mr. Paul Sturm is an Independent Director of the Company. He served as a member of our advisory board beginning in 1998 and was elected to the Board in August 1999. He is a private investor and wrote a monthly column on investing for Smart Money magazine between 1992 and 2006. From 1985 to 1989, he was assistant managing editor at Business Week. From 1980 until 1985, he held a similar position at Forbes. Before that, he worked as a business writer for a variety of publications based in New York, Washington, and London. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Oberlin College and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He received a juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

Hugh Zentmyer

Mr. Hugh J. Zentmyer is an Independent Director of the Company. He was appointed to the Board in January 2010. He served as executive vice president of Illinois Tool Works Inc., a diversified manufacturer of industrial systems and components, from 1995 until his retirement in January 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University.
