Name Description

John Ryan

Mr. John T. Ryan III, is Non-Executive Independent Chairman of the Board of Mine Safety Appliances Co. He is retired (2008); formerly Chief Executive Officer of the Company. As the former CEO of the Company, Mr. Ryan brings to the Company’s board experience in the Company’s business with particular experience in international markets and the global safety products industry.

William Lambert

Mr. William M. Lambert is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Mine Safety Appliances Co. Prior to his present position, Mr. Lambert held the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer; Vice President and President, MSA North America; and Vice President and General Manager of the Safety Products Division.

Ms. McMahan comes to MSA with more than 23 years of finance leadership experience, most recently serving as Vice President of Finance, Customer Channels Group, for Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. Prior to this, she spent six years with Johnson & Johnson as Vice President of Finance, and 16 years with Eli Lilly, where she served in a treasury oriented position in Brussels, Belgium; as Finance Manager in Basingstoke Hampshire, UK; and in a CFO role in Sydney, Australia. Ms. McMahan holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Oklahoma State University. She also earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Steven Blanco

Mr. Steven C. Blanco serves as Vice President - Global Operational Excellence of Mine Safety Appliances Company. With nearly 25 years of operations experience, Mr. Blanco comes to MSA from Eaton Corporation, where he worked for the past five years, most recently serving as Vice President of Manufacturing for the company's $7.2 billion Electrical Sector. Prior to this, he spent nearly 20 years with Ford Motor Company and Visteon, serving in a variety of engineering, plant management and operations roles. In his new position with MSA, Mr. Blanco will work to implement practices, including edge manufacturing processes and systems that advance the effectiveness and efficiency of MSA's global manufacturing operations. He will also work to develop the company's Operational Excellence team to support business objectives and the implementation of MSA's corporate strategy, of which Operational Excellence is a key focus. An engineer by trade, Mr. Blanco earned his bachelor's of science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University and holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Mr. Markus H. Weber is Chief Information Officer, Vice President of Mine Safety Appliances Company. Prior to joining MSA, Mr. Weber served as Chief Information Officer of Berlin-Chemie AG, an international research-based pharmaceutical company.

Paul Uhler

Mr. Paul R. Uhler is Vice President - Global Human Resources of Mine Safety Appliances Company. Prior to his present position, Mr. Uhler was Vice President, primarily responsible for North American Human Resources and Corporate Communications.

Prior to his present position, Mr. Muschter held the positions of Director, Research & Development, International; Director, Research & Development, Europe; and chemist. Dr. Muschter holds a doctorate in Chemistry from the Freie Universitat in Berlin, which he received in 1989.

Nishan Vartanian

Mr. Nishan Vartanian is Vice President - Fixed Gas and Flame Detection of Mine Safety Appliances Company. Mr. Vartanian, who joined MSA in 1985, will serve as an officer of the company and will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic blueprint for MSA's Fixed Gas and Flame Detection business. Most recently, Mr. Vartanian served as the integration leader for MSA's 2010 acquisition of California-based General Monitors, a innovator and developer of advanced gas and flame detection systems. Following the integration, Mr. Vartanian was named Chief Operating Officer of General Monitors in 2011. During his 27 years with the company, Mr. Vartanian has served in various roles of increasing responsibility within MSA North America. He began his career as a sales representative in Atlanta, Ga. He was later promoted to U.S. National Sales Manager and, in 2005, was named Director of North America Commercial Sales and Distribution. Mr. Vartanian was appointed to MSA's Executive Leadership Team in 2011. Mr. Vartanian holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Massachusetts.

Thomas Witmer

Mr. Thomas H. Witmer is Lead Independent Director of Mine Safety Appliances Co. He is retired (1998); formerly President and Chief Executive Officer, Medrad, Inc. (manufacturer of medical devices). As the former CEO of a publicly traded multinational company, Mr. Witmer brings to the Company’s board specific experience in global engineering, product design, operations and marketing in international markets.

Robert Bruggeworth

Mr. Robert A. Bruggeworth is Independent Director of Mine Safety Appliances Company, since Februry 2007. He is President and Chief Executive Officer, RF Micro Devices, Inc. (High-Performance RF Components and Compound Semiconductors manufacturer); Director of RF Micro Devices, Inc. As the CEO of a publicly traded multinational corporation, Mr. Bruggeworth brings to the Company’s board specific experience in global business, manufacturing, marketing and material sourcing for high technology products.
