Name Description

Thomas Kaplan

 Dr. Thomas S. Kaplan is Chairman of the Board of NovaGold Resources Inc. Dr. Kaplan is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company and NovaCopper Inc. He is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Electrum Group LLC, a privately-held global natural resources investment management company which manages the portfolio of Electrum, the single shareholder of the Company. Dr. Kaplan is an entrepreneur and investor with a track record of both creating and unlocking shareholder value in public and private companies. Most recently, Dr. Kaplan served as Chairman of Leor Exploration & Production LLC, a natural gas exploration and development company founded by Dr. Kaplan in 2003. In 2007, Leor’s natural gas assets were sold to EnCana Oil & Gas USA Inc., a subsidiary of Encana Corporation, for $2.55 billion. Dr. Kaplan holds Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in History from Oxford University.

Gregory Lang

 Mr. Gregory A. Lang is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. He has been appointed to the position of Director of the Company with effect from 18 April 2012. Mr. Lang has over 30 years of diverse experience in mine operations, project development and evaluations, including experience as President of Barrick Gold North America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barrick. Mr. Lang has held operating and project development positions over his 10-year tenure with Barrick and, prior to that, with Homestake Mining Company and International Corona Corporation, both of which are now part of Barrick. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla and is a Graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program.

David Ottewell

 Mr. David Ottewell is Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of NovaGold Resources Inc., since November 13, 2012. In this senior role, Mr. Ottewell is responsible for all aspects of NOVAGOLD's financial management as the Company advances permitting and financial optimization of its 50%-owned Donlin Gold Project. Mr. Ottewell has over 25 years of mining industry experience. He previously served as Vice President and Controller for Newmont Mining Corporation ("Newmont”). During his tenure with Newmont, Mr. Ottewell led the global accounting functions for external reporting to shareholders and regulators in the U.S. and Canada. He started his accounting career at Ernst and Whinney, an accounting firm. Mr. Ottewell holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

David Deisley

 Mr. David L. Deisley has been appointed as Executive Vice President, General Counsel of NovaGold Resources Inc., since November 1, 2012. In this executive role, Mr. Deisley is responsible for NOVAGOLD's legal governance and supports the Company's efforts to advance the permitting process on the Donlin Gold project. Mr. Deisley has over 25 years of experience in the mining industry in the Americas. He previously served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel for Goldcorp Inc. ("Goldcorp”). During his tenure with Goldcorp, Mr. Deisley played a role in the implementation of corporate development transactions and in the advancement of Goldcorp's corporate social responsibility policy and practices. He obtained his juris doctor from the University of Utah college of law and his bachelor of arts from Brown University.

Richard Williams

 Mr. Richard Williams has been appointed as Vice President - Engineering and Development of NovaGold Resources Inc., effective April 1, 2013. Mr. Williams spent over 30 years with Barrick Gold developing and operating mines, with a particular focus on the design and implementation of the pressure oxidation technology planned to be used to process ores at Donlin Gold. Most recently, he served as Project Director of the Pueblo Viejo operation in the Dominican Republic where he played a key role in designing and constructing four of the autoclaves in the world. At Pueblo Viejo, Mr. Williams also spearheaded the commissioning and start-up of one of the world's most complex integrated gold processing facilities which, in addition to the autoclaves, included silver and base-metal recovery circuits. Mr. Williams' seven year tenure at Pueblo Viejo capped a progressively responsible career which included the design, construction and operation of mineral processing facilities of mines such as Goldstrike in Nevada and Mercur in Utah. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and is a Member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers.

Gillyeard Leathley

 Mr. Gillyeard J. Leathley is Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. He resigned as Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President of the Company on November, 2012. Mr. Leathley is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company and a Director. Mr. Leathley who joined the Company in January 2010 as Senior Advisor to the President, was instrumental in advancing the Company's two core projects and was subsequently appointed to his current position in November 2010. He trained as a mine surveyor and industrial engineer with the Scottish National Coal Board, working in coal, bauxite, gold and copper mines. Mr. Leathley has over 25 years of experience overseeing the development of several operating mines. Mr. Leathley is responsible for all technical and operating aspects of the Company's portfolio of projects.

Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse

 Mr. Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse is Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. He resigned from the position of President, Chief Executive Officer of the Company with effective January 9, 2012. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse joined the Company as President and Chief Operating Officer in January 1998 and was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in May 1999. He resigned as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company in January of 2012 in order to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of NovaCopper Inc. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse has more than 30 years of experience in the natural resource sector including as Vice President of Exploration for Placer Dome Inc. In addition to his international exploration perspective, Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse brings years of working experience in and knowledge of Alaska to the Company. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse has managed projects from grassroots discovery through to advanced feasibility studies and production. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse holds a Candidature degree in Science from the Université de Louvain, Belgium, and a Masters of Science degree in geology from the University of Arizona.

Sharon Dowdall

 Ms. Sharon E. Dowdall is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Ms. Dowdall, a Director of the Company, has a 30-year career in the mining industry. Ms. Dowdall served in senior legal capacities for Franco-Nevada Corporation (“Franco-Nevada”), a gold-focused royalty company; and Newmont Mining Company, one of the world’s gold producers. During her 20-year tenure as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary with Franco-Nevada, Ms. Dowdall was one of the principals who transformed an industry pioneer into one of the precious metals enterprises in the world. Prior to joining Franco-Nevada, she practiced law with a Canadian legal firm specializing in natural resources. Ms. Dowdall is the recipient of the 2011 Canadian General Counsel Award for Business Achievement. She currently serves on several Boards of Canadian exploration and development companies. Ms. Dowdall holds a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Calgary and an LL.B, from Osgoode Hall at York University.

Markus Faber

 Dr. Markus Faber is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Dr. Faber has over 35 years of experience in the finance industry and is the Managing Director of Marc Faber Ltd., an investment advisory and fund management firm. He is an advisor to a number of private investment funds and serves as a Director of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. and Sprott Inc. Dr. Faber publishes a widely read monthly investment newsletter entitled The Gloom, Boom & Doom Report and is the author of several books including Tomorrow’s Gold – Asia’s Age of Discovery. A commentator on global market trends and developments, he is also a regular contributor to several financial publications around the world, including Barron’s, where he is a member of the Barron’s Roundtable. Dr. Faber received his PhD in Economics magna cum laude from the University of Zurich.

Tony Giardini

 Mr. Tony S. Giardini, CPA, is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. Giardini is Executive Vice-President and CFO of Kinross Gold Corporation. Prior to joining Kinross, Mr. Giardini was CFO at Capstone Mining, CFO of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., and at Placer Dome, where he held a series of positions, including Vice-President and Treasurer. Tony is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant and spent 12 years with the accounting firm KPMG, prior to joining Placer Dome.

Igor Levental

 Mr. Igor Levental is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. Levental is President of the Electrum Group of Companies, a privately-owned mineral exploration and development group with strategic holdings in private and public precious metals companies, including NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. Levental is a Director of Gabriel Resources Ltd., which is engaged in the development of precious metals deposits in Romania; he is also a Director of Taung Gold Limited, a South African-based private gold exploration and development company. With more than 30 years of experience across a broad cross-section of the international mining industry, Mr. Levental has held senior positions with mining companies including Homestake Mining Company and International Corona Corporation, where he played a role in these companies’ corporate development and merger and acquisition activities. Mr. Levental is a Professional Engineer with a BSc in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Alberta.

Kalidas Madhavpeddi

 Mr. Kalidas V. Madhavpeddi is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. Madhavpeddi is CEO of Forex Investment Group Limited and President of Azteca Consulting LLC, an investment and advisory company to the mining industry. Mr. Madhavpeddi has over 30 years' experience in business development, corporate strategy, global mergers and acquisitions, marketing, trading and sales. He spent nearly 26 years with Phelps Dodge Corporation which at that time the world’s publicly traded copper company. Mr. Madhavpeddi has held various executive positions at Phelps Dodge Corporation including Senior Vice President, Business Development, President, Phelps Dodge Wire and Cable Co., and Senior Vice President, Phelps Dodge Sales Company.

Gerald McConnell

 Mr. Gerald J. McConnell, QC, is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. McConnell has over 25 years of experience in the resource sector. Mr. McConnell is a director and the Chief Executive Officer of Namibia Rare Earths Inc., a public Canadian company focused on the development of rare earth opportunities in Namibia. From 1990 to 2010, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Etruscan Resources Inc., a West African junior gold producer. From December 1984 to January 1998, Mr. McConnell was the President of the Company and from January 1998 to May 1999 he was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. He, a graduate of Dalhousie Law School, was called to the bar of Nova Scotia in 1971 and received his Queen’s Counsel designation in 1986.

Clynton Nauman

 Mr. Clynton R. Nauman is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. Nauman, a Director of the Company, is the Chief Executive Officer of Alexco Resource Corp. and Asset Liability Management Group ULC, and was formerly President of Viceroy Gold Corporation and Viceroy Minerals Corporation and a director of Viceroy Resource Corporation, positions he held from February 1998 until February 2003. Previously, Mr. Nauman was the General Manager of Kennecott Minerals from 1993 to 1998. Mr. Nauman has 25 years of experience in the mining industry ranging from exploration and business development to operations and business management in the precious metals, base metals and coal sectors.

Anthony Walsh

 Mr. Anthony Peter Walsh is Independent Director of NovaGold Resources Inc. Mr. Walsh has over twenty-five years of leadership experience in the mining industry where he held such senior positions as President and Chief Executive Officer of Miramar Mining Corporation, which in 2007 was sold to Newmont Mining Company, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sabina Gold and Silver Corporation and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of International Corona Corporation. Prior to joining the industry, he had a twelve-year tenure with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, where he earned his Chartered Accountant designation. Mr. Walsh currently serves on several Boards of Canadian exploration and development companies. Mr. Walsh graduated from Queen’s University (Canada) in 1973 and became a member of The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1976.
