Biographies

Name Description

Peter Gershon

 Sir Peter Gershon is Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of National Grid Plc, since 1 January 2012. He served as Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Company since 1 August 2011 until 1 January 2012. He is Chairman of Tate & Lyle plc, which provides ingredients to the global food industry and has business interests in the US. He is also Chairman of General Healthcare Group Limited, Vertex Group Limited, a member of the UK Defence Academy Advisory Board and a member of HM Government Efficiency Board. Previously he was Chairman of Premier Farnell plc, Chief Executive of the Office of Government Commerce, Managing Director of Marconi Electronic Systems and Chairman of Symbian Limited. He spent most of his international business career in the technology and telecommunications industries before becoming Board Director for GEC plc from 1994 to 1999, with responsibility for its worldwide defence business. Following the sale of GEC's defence business to BAE Systems in 1999, Sir Peter Gershon joined the Civil Service in April 2000, as the first Chief Executive of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). He was knighted in 2004 for his work on public procurement. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Imperial College London and Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology.

Steve Holliday

 Mr. Steve Holliday is Chief Executive, Executive Director of National Grid Plc. He became Chief Executive of National Grid in January 2007 having joined National Grid Group plc as Group Director, UK and Europe in March 2001, becoming responsible for the electricity and gas transmission businesses in 2002. He was appointed as Group Director responsible for UK Gas Distribution and Business Services in 2003. He was formerly an Executive Director of British Borneo Oil and Gas. Previously, Steve spent 19 years within the Exxon Group, where he held senior positions in the international gas business and managed operational areas such as refining and shipping. He has been Non-executive Director of Marks and Spencer Group plc and Chairman of the UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy, Chair of the Technician Council and a member of the Board of Trustee Directors for Business in the Community and Infrastructure UK.

Andrew Bonfield

 Mr. Andrew R. J. Bonfield is Finance Director, Executive Director of National Grid Plc, since 1 November 2010. He served as Chief Financial Officer at Cadbury plc until March 2010; he also spent five years as Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and has previous experience in the energy sector as Finance Director of BG Group plc. He is Non-executive Director of Kingfisher plc.

Tom King

 Mr. Tom King is Executive Director, US and Director of National Grid Plc. His responsibility for Electricity Distribution & Generation operations. Following the recent reorganisation, Tom is responsible for all US businesses in the new position of Executive Director and President, US. He was President of PG&E Corporation and Chairman and CEO of Pacific Gas and Electric Company from 2003 to 2007. Before that, he held a number of senior positions within the PG&E group having joined in 1998. Previously, Tom served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and served for nine years in officer positions in Enron’s interstate pipeline businesses.

Nick Winser

 Mr. Nick Winser is Executive Director, UK and Director of National Grid Plc. He joined the Board in April 2003. Previously Chief Operating Officer of the US transmission business for National Grid Transco plc having joined The National Grid Company plc in 1993, becoming Director of Engineering in 2001. Prior to this, Nick had been with Powergen since 1991 as principal negotiator on commercial matters. He is Non-executive Director of Kier Group plc and co-Chair of the Energy Research Partnership.

 Ms. Nora Mead Brownell has been appointed as Non-Executive Director of National Grid Plc, with effect from 1 June 2012. She began her career in energy serving as a Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission from 1997 to 2001. Between 2001 and 2006, she served as a Commissioner for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). She later co-founded the energy consulting firm, ESPY Energy Solutions, LLC. She is also the former President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. Nora attended Syracuse University. She also previously served as the Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, for Meridian Bancorp, Inc. Prior to joining Meridian in 1987, she was Deputy Executive Assistant to former Pennsylvania Governor Richard Thornburgh. In addition, Nora also served on the board of Leaf Clean Energy Company, an AIM listed company, as a non-executive director from September 2007 to November 2009 and on the board of Ener1, Inc. until 30 March 2012. She currently serves on the boards of the following public companies: Comverge, Inc. as the chair of the nominating and corporate governance committee and Spectra Energy Partners LP where she serves on the audit committee and conflicts committee. Nora also continues as a partner in ESPY Energy Solutions, LLC.

Jonathan Dawson

 Mr. Jonathan D. S. Dawson has been appointed as Non-Executive Director of National Grid PLC., effective March 4, 2013. He has also been appointed as the member of the Remuneration Committee and Finance Committee. He currently serves as senior independent non-executive director of Next plc, where he has chaired the remuneration committee since 2006, and is also a non-executive director with Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc. In addition Jonathan is a partner in Penfida Partners LLP. Jonathan started his career in the Ministry of Defence before joining Lazard, the investment bank, where he spent over 20 years. He left Lazard in 2005 and cofounded Penfida Partners, a pension fund trustee advisory firm. Jonathan served as a non-executive director of Galliford Try plc between 2004 and 2008, National Australia Group Europe Limited between 2005 and 2012, and most recently Standard Life Investments (Holdings) Limited from 2010 to February 2013. He has been appointed as the Chairman of Remuneration Committee effective July 29, 2013.

 Mr. Mark D. Williamson has been appointed as Senior Non-Executive Independent Director of National Grid Plc., effective July 29, 2013. He has is member of Audit Committee, Finance Committee and Nominations Committee. Formerly Chief Accountant and then Group Financial Controller at Simon Group plc. He joined International Power plc as Group Financial Controller in September 2000 and was appointed to the board as Chief Financial Officer in December 2003, stepping down from the board in May 2012. He is Non-executive Director and Senior Independent Director of Imperial Tobacco Group PLC.

Paul Golby

 Dr. Paul Golby, CBE, has been appointed as Non-Executive Independent Director of National Grid Plc, with effect from 1 February 2012. Golby's most recent role was with E.ON UK plc. He joined East Midlands Electricity plc in 1998 and became Chief Executive and Chairman of E.ON UK plc (formerly Powergen) in 2002. Paul handed over his Chief Executive responsibilities during the final quarter of 2011 and continued as Chairman until retiring from E.ON UK plc in December 2011. After gaining a PhD in mechanical engineering from Aston University and training as a mechanical engineer, he started his career with Dunlop and BTR before becoming an executive director of Clayhithe plc in 1993. Paul is Non-executive Chairman of AEA Technology Group plc, Chair of Council and Pro Chancellor of Aston University, Chairman of EngineeringUK and a member of the Prime Minister's Council for Science and Technology. He is also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Energy Institute Council. He was awarded an honorary degree by Aston University in 2007 and Cranfield University in 2008.

Kenneth Harvey

 Mr. Kenneth George Harvey, CBE, is no longer a Non-Executive Senior Independent Director of National Grid Plc., effective July 29, 2013. He is a chartered engineer, joined the Board in October 2002 following the merger of National Grid Group plc and Lattice Group plc, having been appointed to the Lattice Group plc board in 2000. He was appointed Senior Independent Director in October 2004. Ken is a former Chairman of Comax Holdings Ltd, The Intercare Group plc and Beaufort International Group plc and a former Chairman and Chief Executive of Norweb plc. He has been Chairman of Pennon Group Plc.

Ruth Kelly

 Ms. Ruth Kelly has been appointed as Non-Executive Independent Director of National Grid Plc, with effect from 1 October 2011. Ruth is a Managing Director at HSBC and has held various important roles during her ministerial career in Government from 2001 to 2008. These roles included Secretary of State for Transport, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Secretary of State for Education and Skills and Financial Secretary to the Treasury. She is also a Governor for the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. She has a MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and spent her early career in the Bank of England.
