| Chess, Robert | Mr. Robert B. Chess is Chairman of board of directors of Nektar Therapeutics and has served as a director since May 1992. Mr. Chess is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NanOasis, Inc., a start-up company focused on water desalinization technology. He is also currently the Chairman of OpX Biotechnologies, a start-up platform technology company in the biofuels and biorefined chemicals field. From March 2006 until January 2007, Mr. Chess served as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer, and from April 1999 to January 2007, served as Executive Chairman. He also served as Co-Chief Executive Officer from August 1998 to April 2000, as President from December 1991 to August 1998, and as Chief Executive Officer from May 1992 to August 1998. Mr. Chess was previously the co-Founder and President of Penederm, Inc., a publicly-traded dermatological pharmaceutical company that was sold to Mylan Laboratories. He has held management positions at Intel Corporation and Metaphor Computer Systems (now part of IBM), and was a member of the first President Bush’s White House staff. Since 1997, Mr. Chess has served on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). Mr. Chess was Co-Chairman of BIO’s Intellectual Property Committee, and has served as Chairman of BIO’s Emerging Company Section. Mr. Chess is Chairman of Bio Ventures for Global Health and is on the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and the Committee for Economic Development. He is a member of the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he teaches courses in Entrepreneurship and Management of Health Care Innovation, and is an Adjunct Fellow at Stanford’s Center for Health Policy. From January 2007 until May 2008, Dr. Chowrira, served as Executive Director, Licensing / External Research at Merck & Co., Inc., a global pharmaceutical company. From January 2005 through 2006, Dr. Chowrira served as Chief Patent Counsel and Vice President, Legal Affairs of Sirna Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering RNAi-based therapies for serious diseases and conditions that was acquired by Merck & Co. in January 2007. In that position, Dr. Chowrira was responsible for all legal and business licensing activities and general corporate matters. From January 2002 until December 2004, Dr. Chowrira was Vice President of Legal Affairs, Licensing and Patent Counsel at Sirna Therapeutics. Dr. Chowrira joined Sirna Therapeutics (then operating as Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals Inc.) in 1993 as a scientist. Dr. Chowrira holds a J.D. from the College of Law at the University of Denver and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Vermont. Dr. Chowrira is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, admitted to practice in California as a registered in-house counsel, and is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. | Doberstein, Stephen | Dr. Stephen K. Doberstein, Ph.D., has been appointed as Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Nektar Therapeutics. Dr. Doberstein brings over 17 years of experience in biotechnology research and development to Nektar. Prior to joining Nektar, Dr. Doberstein was Vice President of Research at Xoma where he was responsible for directing the discovery and development of their drug candidates, including antibody discovery and support of clinical development through non-clinical safety, translational medicine and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics. Prior to that, Dr. Doberstein served as Vice President, Research at Five Prime Therapeutics, Inc, a protein and antibody discovery and development company where he built and led a high performance discovery research and process development group. While at Five Prime, he established programs resulting in multiple strategic alliances with pharmaceutical partners, built a strong proprietary pipeline, and moved multiple product candidates from concept to pre-IND stages in diabetes, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Prior to that, Dr. Doberstein was Vice President, Research at Xencor, an antibody and protein engineering and development company. At Xencor, he was instrumental in advancing its protein platform technologies and preclinical product candidates. Before that, he also held a number of senior positions at Exelixis. Dr. Doberstein received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed his postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley. Earlier in his career, Dr. Doberstein held a variety of engineering roles at DuPont after receiving his B.S.Ch.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. |
| Labrucherie, Gil | Mr. Gil M. Labrucherie has served as Nektar Therapeutics's Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary since April 2007, responsible for all aspects of the legal affairs. Mr. Labrucherie served as our Vice President, Corporate Legal from October 2005 through April 2007. From October 2000 to September 2005, Mr. Labrucherie was Vice President of Corporate Development at E2open. | Masuoka, Lorianne | Dr. Lorianne Masuoka, M.D. has been appointed as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Nektar Therapeutics. Dr. Masuoka has over 15 years of experience in clinical research and development. As Chief Medical Officer, she will be instrumental in helping to develop Nektar's clinical development strategy while continuing to oversee all clinical development functions, including Clinical Operations, Clinical Pharmacology, Drug Safety, Biometrics and Data Management. He currently serves as a director of Incyte Corporation, a drug discovery and development company, Illumina, Inc., a developer, manufacturer and marketer of integrated systems for analysis of genetic variations and biological functions, and the private companies Sciona, Inc. and Bioseek, Inc. Since February 2008, he has also served as Executive Chairman of the board of directors of Bioseek. Mr. Lingnau retired from Schering AG Group, Germany, in December 2005 as a member of Schering AG’s Executive Board and as Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Schering Berlin, Inc., a United States subsidiary. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Lingnau was responsible for Schering AG’s worldwide specialized therapeutics and dermatology businesses. He joined Schering AG’s business trainee program in 1966.
