Robert Chess |
Mr. Robert B. Chess is an Independent Chairman of board of Directors of Nektar Therapeutics. He is the Chairman of board of directors and has served as a director since May 1992. He is currently the chairman of the board of directors of OPX Biotechnologies, a private company in the renewable fuels and chemicals field, and chairman of the board of directors of Germitec SAS, a private company in the medical instrument disinfection field. From March 2006 until January 2007, Mr. Chess served as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer, and from April 1999 to January 2007, served as Executive Chairman. He also served as Co-Chief Executive Officer from August 1998 to April 2000, as President from December 1991 to August 1998, and as Chief Executive Officer from May 1992 to August 1998. Mr. Chess was previously the co-Founder and President of Penederm, Inc., a publicly-traded dermatological pharmaceutical company that was sold to Mylan Laboratories. He has held management positions at Intel Corporation and Metaphor Computer Systems (now part of IBM), and was a member of the first President Bush’s White House staff as a White House Fellow and Associate Director of the White House Office of Economic and Domestic Policy. From 1997 until his retirement in 2009, He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and as a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development where he is co-chairman of its Health Care task force. Mr. Chess also serves as a director of NanOasis, Inc., a private company focused on desalinization technology, and Pelvalon, Inc., a private medical device company. He is currently a member of the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he teaches courses in the MBA program on starting technology-based businesses and the healthcare industry. Mr. Howard W. Robin is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Nektar Therapeutics. He has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since January 2007 and has served as a member of board of directors since February 2007. Mr. John Nicholson is Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President of Nektar Therapeutics. Mr. Nicholson joined the Company as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Business Operations in October 2007 and was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in December 2007. Mr. Gil M. Labrucherie, J.D., is Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary of Nektar Therapeutics. He is responsible for all aspects of the company's legal affairs. Mr. Labrucherie served as the company's Vice President, Corporate Legal from October 2005 through April 2007. From October 2000 to September 2005, Mr. Labrucherie was Vice President of Corporate Development at E2open. While at E2open, Mr. Labrucherie was responsible for global corporate alliances and merger and acquisition activity. Dr. Maninder Hora, Ph.D., is Senior Vice President - Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Operations of Nektar Therapeutics. From December 2008 to July 2010, he was Vice President, Product and Quality Operations at Facet Biotech Corporation, a clinical stage biotechnology company, which was acquired by Abbot in April 2010. From July 2006 to December 2008, Dr. Hora served in various management capacities at PDL Biopharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, most recently as Vice President, Product Operations. From 1986 to 2006, Dr. Hora held positions of increasing responsibility with Chiron Corporation (now Novartis), a pharmaceutical company, serving most recently at Chiron as Vice President of Process and Product Development. Dr. Hora served as a key member of various teams that registered eight drugs or vaccines in the U.S. and Europe during his 20-year tenure at Chiron. Dr. Hora has also held positions at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and GlaxoSmithKline PLC prior to joining Chiron. Dr. Hora completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Washington, and received his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Jabalpur. |

Dr. Robert A. Medve, M.D., is Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer of Nektar Therapeutics. He previously served as Vice President Drug Development and Medical Affairs when he joined Nektar in March 2011 until June 2011. From November 2006 to March 2011, he was Chief Medical and Regulatory Officer at NeurAxon, Inc., a privately held biotechnology company developing drug candidates for the treatment of pain and CNS disorders. From April 2006 to November 2006, Dr. Medve served as Corporate Vice President, Science, Research and Development for Lifetree Clinical Research, and thereafter served in a consulting capacity from time to time. From May 2003 to November 2005, Dr. Medve served as Senior Vice President, Drug Development and Chief Medical and Regulatory Officer for Metaphore Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company developing drug candidates for pain and inflammation. From January 1998 to May 2003, he served in various leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson, a pharmaceutical company, most recently as Executive Director of Pediatric Drug Development. From May 1996 to January 1998, he served in the medical affairs group at Knoll Pharmaceutical Company, a wholly-owned pharmaceutical subsidiary of BASF acquired by Abbot in 2001, most recently as Director of Medical Affairs. Prior to joining industry, Dr. Medve served as the Director of Pediatric Pain Management and Instructor of Anesthesiology at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY) and also completed a Pain Management Fellowship at SUNY. He completed his residency in anesthesia at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and served as a surgical intern at Mercy Health Systems Medical Center. R. Scott Greer |
Mr. R. Scott Greer is an Independent Director of Nektar Therapeutics since February 2010. Since June 2003, Mr. Greer has served as Managing Director of Numenor Ventures, LLC, a venture capital firm. In 1996, Mr. Greer co-founded Abgenix, Inc., a company that specialized in the discovery, development and manufacture of human therapeutic antibodies, and from June 1996 through May 2002, he served as its Chief Executive Officer. He also served as a director of Abgenix from 1996 and Chairman of the board of directors from 2000 until the acquisition of Abgenix by Amgen, Inc. in April 2006. Prior to Abgenix’s formation, Mr. Greer held senior management positions at Cell Genesys, Inc., a biotechnology company, initially as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development and later as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, and various positions at Genetics Institute, Inc., a biotechnology research and development company. Mr. Greer served as a member of the board of directors of Sirna Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company, from 2003, and as its Chairman of the board of directors from 2005, through the closing of the acquisition of Sirna by Merck & Co., Inc. in December 2006. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Greer served as a member of the board of directors of Illumina, Inc., a provider of integrated systems for the analysis of genetic variation and biological function, and from 2001 to 2004, he served as member of the board of directors of CV Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company. Ms. Susan Wang., CPA., is an Independent Director of Nektar Therapeutics since December 2003. Ms. Wang, who retired from Solectron Corporation in May 2002, served in various management positions there from 1984 to June 2002. Her final position at Solectron, an electronics manufacturing services and supply chain solutions company, was Executive Vice President for Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer, a position she held from September 2001 to June 2002. Mr. Roy A. Whitfield is an Independent Director of Nektar Therapeutics since August 2000. Mr. Whitfield is the former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Incyte Corporation, a drug discovery and development company he co-founded in 1991. From January 1993 to November 2001, Mr. Whitfield served as its Chief Executive Officer and from November 2001 until June 2003 as its Chairman.
