James Squires

Mr. James A. Squires has been appointed as Chairman of the Board, President, Chief Executive Officer of the Company. effective October 1, 2015. Mr. Squires has been employed by Norfolk Southern since 1992, and he has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since June 1, 2015. Prior thereto, he served as President from June 1, 2013, until June 1, 2015; as Executive Vice President Administration from August 1, 2012, until June 1, 2013; as Executive Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer from July 1, 2007, until August 1, 2012; as Executive Vice President Finance from April 1, 2007, until July 1, 2007; and as Senior Vice President Financial Planning from 2006 to 2007.

Marta Stewart

Ms. Marta R. Stewart, CPA., has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President - Finance of Norfolk Southern Corporation., effective November 1, 2013. Ms. Stewart has been employed by Norfolk Southern since 1983, and she has served as Vice President and Treasurer since April 1, 2009. James Hixon

Mr. James A. Hixon is no longer Executive Vice President - Law and Corporate Relations of Norfolk Southern Corporation., effective December 1, 2016. Hixon joined NS in 1985 as a tax attorney and first was elected an officer of the company in 1993 when he was named vice president taxation. He subsequently was promoted to a series of more senior executive positions with wide ranging responsibilities, including senior vice president administration, and executive vice president finance and public affairs, before being named to his current position in 2005. Having served as chief legal officer for NS for more than a decade, Hixon is recognized as an industry leader in legal and government relations matters and is currently chair of the Policy and Advocacy Committee of the Association of American Railroads. He played a key role in creation of the National Railroad Retirement Investment Trust and establishment of the Trust’s investment policies, and has served multiple terms as trustee.

Thomas Hurlbut

Mr. Thomas E. Hurlbut has been appointed as Vice President and Controller of Norfolk Southern Corporation, effective November 1, 2013. He is no longer Vice President Audit and Compliance of the Company effective November 1, 2013. He has been employed by Norfolk Southern since 1992, and he has served as Vice President Audit and Compliance since February 1, 2010. Philip Merilli

Mr. Philip Merilli is Vice President - Engineering of Company. His department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and inspection of the rail network’s tracks, bridges, and signal systems. Merilli, who has served as assistant vice president maintenance of way and structures since 2013, joined an NS predecessor line in 1981 as an assistant roadmaster. He served in a variety of engineering positions, including track supervisor, division engineer, and chief engineer line maintenance, before being named to his most recent position. Merilli holds a degree from Penn State.
