Name Description
Chambon, Philippe Dr. Philippe O. Chambon, M.D., Ph.D., is Director of NxStage since 1998, has been Chairman of Board of Directors since December 2004 and currently serves on Compensation and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees. Dr. Chambon is a Managing Director and founder of New Leaf Venture Partners, a spin-off from The Sprout Group, or Sprout. He joined Sprout in May 1995 and became a General Partner in January 1997. He invests broadly in healthcare technology companies. He also is currently on the board of Auxilium Pharmaceuticals as well as several private companies. Previously, Dr. Chambon served as Manager in the Healthcare Practice of The Boston Consulting Group from May 1993 to April 1995. From September 1987 to April 1993, he was an executive with Sandoz Pharmaceutical, where he led strategic product development, portfolio management and pre-marketing activities in his capacity as Executive Director of New Product Management. Dr. Chambon did graduate research in molecular immunology at The Pasteur Institute and earned a MD, Ph.D. from the University of Paris. He also has an MBA from Columbia University in New York.
Burbank, Jeffrey Mr. Jeffrey H. Burbank is President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of NxStage Medical, Inc. since December 1998. Prior to joining NxStage, Mr. Burbank was a founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Vasca, Inc., a medical device company that developed and marketed a blood access device for dialysis patients. He gained significant renal industry experience during his nine years at Gambro, Inc., in the Renal Division, with his last position as Director of Marketing and Advanced Technologies in 1995. Mr. Burbank received his BS in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University.
Brown, Robert Mr. Robert S. Brown is Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of NxStage Medical, Inc. since November 2006. Prior to joining NxStage, Mr. Brown held several leadership positions in Boston Scientific’s financial group including Vice President, Corporate Analysis & Control from 2005 until he joined the company in 2006, where he and his team were responsible for Boston Scientific’s financial, compliance and operational audits and reported directly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. Mr. Brown also served as Vice President, International from 1999 through 2004, where he was responsible for the financial functions of Boston Scientific’s international division in over forty countries. Previous experience also includes financial reporting and special projects at United Technologies and public accounting and consulting at Deloitte & Touche. He holds a B.B.A. degree in Accounting from the University of Toledo and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, and is a certified public accountant.
Swan, Winifred Ms. Winifred L. Swan is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of NxStage Medical, Inc. Ms. Swan has been Senior Vice President since January 2005 and Vice President and General Counsel since November 2000. From July 1995 to November 2000, Ms. Swan was Senior Corporate Counsel at Boston Scientific Corporation. She holds a B.A., cum laude , in Economics and Public Policy from Duke University and a J.D., cum laude and Order of the Coif , from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Turk, Joseph Mr. Joseph E. Turk, Jr. is Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations of NxStage Medical, Inc. since January 2005 and Vice President, Sales and Marketing since May 2000. From August 1998 to May 2000, Mr. Turk was employed at Boston Scientific Corporation as Director of New Business Development. Mr. Turk holds an A.B. degree in Economics from Wabash College and an M.B.A. in Marketing and Finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Webb, Michael Mr. Michael J. Webb is Senior Vice President of Quality, Regulatory and Clinical Affairs of NxStage Medical, Inc. since August 2007, Vice President of Disposables Operations from January 2007 through August 2007, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs from July 2002 through January 2007, and Vice President of Operations from July 2001 through July 2002. Prior to joining NxStage, Mr. Webb was Vice President of Operations for Mosaic Technologies, a developer of gene-based diagnostic products. Other previous positions include Director of Operations for TFX Medical and Director of Disposables Manufacturing and Logistics for Haemonetics Corporation. Shea, Tom Mr. Tom Shea is Senior Vice President - Manufacturing Operations of NxStage Medical, Inc., since March 2008. Prior to joining NxStage, he held several leadership positions at Jabil Incorporated, a $12 billion Tier I contract manufacturer. Most recently, Tom served as Jabil’s Global Business Unit Manager, supporting clients in the aerospace, defense and telecommunications industries. In this capacity, he developed and implemented global operations, logistics and pricing strategies for his sector. He previously served as Operations Manager at Jabil where he had full plant profit and loss responsibility for their Massachusetts facility. Mr. Shea earned his M.B.A. at The University of Massachusetts and his B.S. in Production and Operations Management at Bryant University.
Giannini, Daniel Mr. Daniel A. Giannini is Director of NxStage since October 2005 and currently serves as chair of Audit Committee and a member of Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He also serves as a director on several private and non-profit company boards. Mr. Giannini retired in June 2005, after a more than 30-year career, as a Certified Public Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. During his last five years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Mr. Giannini served as an audit partner and led the firm’s Atlanta office’s Technology, Information, Communications and Entertainment practice. Mr. Giannini received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from LaSalle University.
Moore, Craig Mr. Craig W. Moore is Director of NxStage since 2002 and currently serves as chair of Compensation Committee and a member of Audit Committee. From 1986 to 2001, Mr. Moore was Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer at Everest Healthcare Services Corporation, a provider of dialysis to patients with renal failure. Since 2001, Mr. Moore has acted as a consultant to various companies in the healthcare services industry. From 1986 through 2001, Mr. Moore was President of Continental Health Care, Ltd., an extracorporeal services and supply company, and from 1990 through 2004, he was President of New York Dialysis Management, a dialysis management business. Mr. Moore serves as a director on several private company boards.
Perper, Reid Mr. Reid S. Perper is Director of NxStage Medical, Inc., since September 2005 and currently serves as a member of Audit Committee. From January 2004 to March 2009, Mr. Perper was Managing Director of Healthcare Investment Partners LLC. From November 2000 through June 2003, Mr. Perper was a Managing Director and Co-Head of Europe for CSFB Private Equity. Prior to joining CSFB, Mr. Perper was a Managing Director of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners. Mr. Perper joined Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in 1988. Utterberg, David Mr. David S. Utterberg is Director of NxStage Medical, Inc., since 1998. Between 1981 and 2007, Mr. Utterberg served as the Chief Executive Officer, President and sole stockholder of Medisystems Corporation, which was acquired by NxStage, together with certain affiliated entities, on October 1, 2007. Mr. Utterberg presently serves as the President and Director of Lifestream Medical Corporation, a private medical device company, as well as the President, Director and Chairman of DSU Medical Corporation, or DSU, a private company. DSU holds and licenses over 90 U.S. and foreign patents and other intellectual property in medical technology focused on extracorporeal therapy devices.
Silverstein, Jonathan Mr. Jonathan T. Silverstein is Director of NxStage Medical Inc., since July 2008 and currently serves as a member of Nominating and Governance Committee. Since 1998, Mr. Silverstein has been a General Partner at OrbiMed Advisors, LLC., an asset management firm solely focused in healthcare with several billion in assets under management. Lewis, Earl Mr. Earl R. Lewis is Directors of NxStage Medical, Inc., since October 2008 and currently serves a member of Compensation Committee. Since 2000, Mr. Lewis has been the Chairman, President and CEO of Flir Systems Inc., a manufacturer of thermal imaging and infrared camera systems. Prior to 2000, he served as CEO and President at Thermo Instrument Systems, Inc. Mr. Lewis holds a B.S. from Clarkson College of Technology and has attended post-graduate programs at the University of Buffalo, Northeastern University and Harvard University. Mr. Lewis has a professional Director Certification, earned through an extended series of director education programs sponsored by the Corporate Directors Group, an accredited organization of RiskMetrics ISS.
