Biographies

Name Description
Moreno, Glen Glen Moreno was appointed Chairman of the Board of Pearson Plc on 1 October 2005. He is the senior independent director of Man Group plc and a director of Fidelity International Limited. He was recently made acting chairman of UK Financial Investments Limited, the company set up by HM Treasury to manage the government’s shareholdings in UK banks.
Scardino, Marjorie Marjorie Scardino joined the Pearson Plc board in January 1997. She trained and practised as a lawyer, and was chief executive of The Economist Group from 1993 until joining Pearson. She is also vice chairman of Nokia Corporation and a director of several charitable organisations.
Freestone, Robin Robin Freestone is Chief Financial Officer, joined Pearson in 2004 as deputy chief financial officer and became chief financial officer in June 2006, when he also joined the Pearson board. He was previously group financial controller of Amersham plc (now part of GE). He qualified as a chartered accountant with Touche Ross (now Deloitte). He is also a non-executive director and founder shareholder in eChem Limited.
Makinson, John John Makinson is chairman and chief executive officer of The Penguin Group. He joined the Pearson board in March 1996 and was finance director until June 2002. He was appointed chairman of The Penguin Group in May 2001.He is also chairman of Interactive Data Corporation and a non-executive director of George Weston Limited in Canada. He moved to the Financial Times from Makinson Cowell, the firm that he co-founded and ran from 1989 to 1994. John began his career as a journalist after graduating from Cambridge with Honours in History and English. He began at Reuters where he remained from 1976 - 1979 and worked in the London, Paris and Frankfurt offices and then moved to the Financial Times from 1979 to 1986 as a journalist becoming editor of the Lex column.
Fairhead, Rona Rona Fairhead is chairman and chief executive of The Financial Times Group, joined the Pearson board in June 2002 as chief financial officer. She was appointed chief executive of The Financial Times Group in June 2006. From 1996 until 2001, she worked at ICI, where she served as executive vice president, group control and strategy. She is also chairman of Interactive Data, a non-executive director of HSBC Holdings plc and chairs the HSBC audit committee.
Ethridge, William William Ethridge is the Chief Executive, North American Education, Director of Pearson Plc. He joined Pearson in 1998 following the Simon & Schuster education acquisition and was appointed chief executive of the US Higher Education and Professional Group. In 2003 his responsibilities were expanded when he became chief executive of Pearson's Higher Education, International and Professional publishing. In March 2008, Will was appointed to a new role as chief executive of Pearson's North American education business, spanning School, Higher Education and Professional publishing, assessment, technology and services. He joined Pearson's board on 1 May 2008, and is also a member of the Pearson management committee. Will also serves as vice chairman of the Association of American Publishers (AAP). Will graduated in 1974 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a degree in American Studies. He started his career in publishing in 1975 as a Sales Representative with Little, Brown & Company, and later went on to building industry-leading programs in economics as an editor and editor-in-chief for Little, Brown and later Addison Wesley.

Baliszewski, Robin Ms. Robin Baliszewski Director for People of Pearson Plc. She is President of Pearson's Health Science and Career publishing division since 2000.
