Name Description

Nicholas Nganga

Mr. Nicholas Nganga has served as Non-Executive Chairman of Safaricom Ltd since January 16, 2007. He joined the Board of Directors of the Company on May 6, 2004 as Non-Executive Director. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Makerere University, Uganda. He served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Health and has been involved in the tea industry and was Chairman of the Tea Board of Kenya. He is also a past Chairman of the National Bank of Kenya. Currently, he holds Chairman Position for G4S Security, Car and General Kenya and a member of the Board for Kakuzi Limited. He is Chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Company.

Robert Collymore

Mr. Robert William (Bob) Collymore has served as Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since November 1, 2010. He joined the Board of the Company on September 5, 2006 as Non-Executive Director. Prior to joining the Company, he was the Chief Officer for Corporate Affairs in Vodacom Group responsible for the Group’s Corporate Communication, Ethics and Compliance, Legal, External Relationships and Corporate Social Responsibility. Prior to that, he was Vodafone’s Governance Director for Africa where he was responsible for developing and driving Vodafone’s strategy for its investments in Africa as well as representing Vodafone as a key direct foreign investor in a number of African countries. He has more than 25 years of commercial experience working in the telecommunications sector. He is also a trustee of Holding companies in Kenya and Tanzania for M-PESA, Vodafone’s pioneering money transfer service and was recently appointed a member of the UN Global Compact Board.

Sateesh Kamath

Mr. Sateesh Kamath has served as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since August 1, 2016. Prior to his appointment to the role he was the CFO of Vodacom Tanzania. With over 19 years’ experience in both mature and emerging markets across Asia, Europe and Africa, Sateesh has a strong background in strategic performance management and building robust operations across the telecoms, FMCG and manufacturing sectors. Prior to joining Vodacom, Sateesh has held senior roles for the last 12 years at both a global and local level for Vodafone operations in London, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and Fiji. He is a Non-Executive Director in other Group companies and investments.

Ronald Webb

Mr. Ronald (Ron) Webb has served as Director, Financial Services of Safaricom Ltd since August 8, 2016. Ron joined Safaricom Ltd on August 8, 2016, and is responsible for conceptualizing, creating and growing the company’s growing mobile payments ecosystem to ensure market leadership, all while meeting customer requirements. He is responsible for ensuring optimal financial performance of the Financial Services Division by assuring credit quality, managing business development opportunities, ensuring regulatory compliance and mitigating potential risk. Prior to Safaricom, Ron was a high level executive at Equity Bank where he was the leader of the newly created directorate of payments within the bank, responsible for driving innovation in the payments space. He joined Equity from the Paynet/PesaPoint Group where he was Group Technology Officer for 18 years. Mr. Webb has 30 years of experience in the fast-evolving African payments space, having implemented systems and strategy for technologies ranging across a number of markets.

Steve Okeyo

Mr. Steve Okeyo serves as Director, Regional Sales & Operations of Safaricom Ltd. Steve leads the Regional Sales and Operations Division. He has over 15 years of experience in Strategic Planning, Marketing Management, Commercial Transformation and General Management in Africa and Europe. Prior to joining Safaricom, he was Director of Sales Force Effectiveness at Lafarge Corporate Headquarters in Paris, France. He has also held senior management positions at Coca-Cola Company’s regional operations in East and Central Africa including the position of Country Manager. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master's from United States International University (USIU) Africa.

Thibaud Rerolle

Mr. Thibaud Rerolle serves as Director, Technology & IT of Safaricom Ltd. He joined the Company on January 2012. Previously, he was the Chief Technology Officer at Orange Dominicana in the Dominican Republic. He has a wealth of experience having worked in senior management positions in the Telecommunication Industry for over 20 years in roles spanning 7 countries in Europe, South America and Africa. He has a Masters Degree in Telecommunications with a Specialization in Networks from the prestigious Telecom ParisTech (ENST) and has also attended Prytanee National Militaire Prepatory School in France.

Nicholas Mulila

Mr. Nicholas Mulila serves as Director, Risk Management of Safaricom Ltd. He oversees the Company’s Strategy formulation and execution and organization projects and governance. He joined Safaricom in 2001 as a Senior Management Accountant in the finance division from Eastern Produce (K) Ltd. He has held several senior management roles in the Company including business planning and forecasting in Finance division, heading the Strategy Department and most recently as head of Commercial Planning / Pricing Department and eventually appointed Executive Business Analyst and PMO. He is also an alternate director of OneCom Limited. He has over 12 years experience in Finance, Strategy formulation and Strategy Execution. He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting option) and a Master of Business Administration degree in Strategy from the University of Nairobi. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK).

Maria Shipiri

Ms. Maria Shipiri serves as Director, Resources of Safaricom Ltd. Maria is a proven leader in Human Resources with close to 20 years of progressive experience across various industries including Telecommunications, Banking, Pharmaceuticals, FMCGs and the Development world. She joined Safaricom in July 2013 as Head of Department – Human Resources Business Partner, for Consumer and Enterprise Divisions. A year later, she moved to Vodafone Group (UK) as Human Resources Business Partner for Group Enterprises. Prior to joining Safaricom, she has held senior leadership roles in both global and local institutions including Ecobank Groupe in Togo, Novartis in Switzerland and Morocco, Mumias Sugar, CocaCola East & Central Africa and World Vision International. Maria is a Masters graduate from the HEC Paris/University of Oxford Coaching and Consulting for Change program and holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Kenyatta University (KE). She is a qualified Executive Coach from the Academy of Executive Coaching (UK) and also possesses a Higher Diploma in HR Management from the Institute of Human Resource Management (KE).

Jannet Atika

Ms. Jannet Atika serves as Director, Customer Operations of Safaricom Ltd. She has over 23 years of experience working in the telecommunication sector in various fields such as Public Relations, Sales, Marketing and Customer Service. She joined Safaricom in November 2000 as a Retail Shop Manager and has held various roles, including Care Centre Operations Manager, Senior Manager - Retail Rollout & Support and Head of Department - Retail Channels. Prior to joining Safaricom, Jannet was the Head of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations at Gilgil Telecommunication, then a subsidiary of Telkom Kenya. Jannet has implemented various initiatives that have brought significant improvements in both retail and customer care operations. She holds a Masters of Business Administration Degree in Strategy from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Sociology from Egerton University. Jannet is an alumna of Strathmore Business School (SBS) where she undertook a Program for Management Development (PMD) and an Advanced Management Development Program (AMP).

Stephen Chege

Mr. Stephen (Steve) Chege has served as Director, Corporate Affairs of Safaricom Ltd since 2015. With a deep background in regulatory and legal affairs, Mr. Chege is responsible for the Corporate Affairs Division which provides strategic support functions to Safaricom's operations and includes the: Regulatory & Public Policy, Legal & Secretarial Services; Corporate Responsibility (incorporating the Safaricom 7 M-PESA Foundations as well as Sustainability Reporting); and the Corporate Communications functions. Mr. Chege harnesses a wealth of telecommunications professional experience spanning over 14 years in various organizations including Vodafone Group UK. He first joined Safaricom in 2006 as In-House Counsel, rising over the years to hold the position of Senior Manager, Public Policy & Market Regulation until 2011 when he was appointed Head of Regulatory & Public Policy, a position he maintained until becoming Director, Corporate Affairs in 2015. An advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Mr. Chege holds a Masters in Law (LL.M) in International Trade & Investment Law from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) from the same University. He is a Certified Public Secretary and a Trustee of the Safaricom Foundation, where he nurtures his ambition to provide access to education for young, disadvantaged children. Mr. Chege is currently a member of a Taskforce established under the Kenyan ICT Ministry to develop the Policy Framework and Critical Infrastructure Bill for the protection of critical ICT infrastructure.

Sylvia Mulinge

Ms. Sylvia Mulinge has served as Director, Consumer Business of Safaricom Ltd since March 23, 2015. She served as General Manager, Enterprise Business Unit of the Company until March 23, 2015. Prior to this role, she was the Head of Safaricom Business responsible for delivery of corporate propositions to Safaricom’s enterprise customers. Within three years, she was able to grow the newly launched fixed data business. Prior to that, she was the Head of Retail in charge of Safaricom’s network of retail shops. Previously she spent five years working with Unilever in different marketing roles that spanned Kenya and South Africa before joining Safaricom as a Senior Manager, Prepay Products in 2006. A first class honors graduate in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi, and is pursuing an Executive MBA through the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She is a member of the Marketing Society of Kenya and she has distinguished herself by winning various marketing awards in the industry. She also serves as a Director in OneCom Limited.

Joseph Ogutu

Mr. Joseph Ogutu serves as Director, Strategy & Innovation of Safaricom Ltd since October 2012. Until than, from March 2011, he served as Director Resources at the Company. He joined Safaricom as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer in May 2005 from Telkom Kenya where he was the principal assistant to the Managing Director and Chief Strategy and Regulatory Officer. He then served as Chief Human Resource Officer from 2008 before taking on the role of Director Resources in the March 2011 company reorganization. As Director Resources, Mr. Ogutu is responsible for Human Resources and the management of company facilities. Mr. Ogutu has over 20 years’ experience in the communications industry. During this period, he was actively involved in the reform of the sector including the drafting of the Postal and Telecommunication Policy Paper that led to the restructuring of the defunct Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation and subsequent establishment of CCK, Telkom Kenya and Postal Corporation of Kenya. He has also been involved in the establishment of the institutional framework for the Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (Eassy). Mr. Ogutu is a graduate of Economics from the University of Nairobi.

Rita Okuthe

Ms. Rita Okuthe has served as Director, Enterprise Business Unit of Safaricom Ltd since March 23, 2015. She was Director, Marketing of the Company between October 2012 and March 23, 2015. She joined Safaricom on August 10, 2009 as Head of Consumer Segments. Before joining the Company, she held several marketing roles, including Head of Marketing at MTN Uganda. Ms. Okuthe has over 15 years work experience in advertising and brand management and has managed brands at all stages; from infancy to maturity in both monopolistic and competitive environments. She holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and a Masters degree in Marketing. She has several years work experience in advertising and brand management and has successfully managed brands at all stages; from infancy to maturity in both monopolistic and highly competitive environments. In 2014, Rita was nominated as one of the 50 global CMOs to watch in the Telecoms sector, nominees were chosen as a result of their commitment to innovation in their field and their ability to communicate the role of operators and vendors as continuing shifts shape the telecoms sector. Also she was one of just 12 women around the world who have received this accolade awarded by Global Telecoms Business magazine. She was recognized for her role in crafting specialized marketing campaigns that bring Transforming Lives vision to life.

Denish Osodo

Mr. Denish Osodo has served as Director, Internal Audit of Safaricom Ltd since October 2013. He is a seasoned professional with 14 years experience in Audit and Risk Advisory Services. He previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for several years, offering audit and business advisory services to Companies in different industries during his stints in Kenya and United Kingdom offices. He left PwC as a Director in the Risk Assurance Services team focusing on the provision of Internal Audit and business Controls Advisory Services to businesses in the region. Denish graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi and is a practicing member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

Kathryne Maundu

Ms. Kathryne Maundu serves as Company Secretary of Safaricom Ltd. Kathryne is a Senior Manager in the Company Secretarial and Registration Services Department at Deloitte Limited. She has over 11 years’ of consulting experience guiding local and multinational companies and their boards in discharging their statutory and Corporate Governance mandate. She has worked in the East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and is therefore well versed with the applicable corporate laws and other statutory regulations in these jurisdictions. Kathryne holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a registered Certified Public Secretary.

Michael Joseph

Mr. Michael Joseph has served as Non-Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since September 8, 2008. He served as Chief Executive Officer of the Company between July 2000 and September 8, 2008. He is the Director of Mobile Money of Vodafone Group Services Limited, having joined the Board on 8 September 2008. He is also Vodafone’s Strategic Advisor appointed to the Boards of Vodacom Group South Africa, Vodacom Tanzania, Vodacom Mozambique, Vodacom DRC and Safaricom Limited in Kenya. He has extensive international experience in company start-ups, the implementation and operation of large wireless and wire-line networks, including operations in Hungary, Spain, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Korea, the USA, Australia and the Middle East. He holds a B. Sc. (cum laude) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, an Honorary Doctorate degree (Doctor of Letters) from Africa Nazarene University, bestowed to him in recognition of his contribution to the growth of Safaricom from very humble beginnings to becoming one of the most innovative, influential and profitable company in the East African region. He is also member of the I.E.E.E. and I.E.E. (U.K.). He is Member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Company.

Nancy Macharia

Ms. Nancy Wambaire Macharia has served as Non-Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since January, 16, 2007. Ms. Macharia is the Deputy Director, JKUAT Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology, a researcher, Trainer and a consultant in ICT. She is a member of the Computer Society of Kenya, Public Relations Society of Kenya, The Institute of Directors, The Research and Training Committee of JKUAT and the ICT committee – JKUAT. She is currently pursuing her PhD studies and holds a Masters degree in Computer Based Information Systems from University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom. She is Member of the Audit Committee of the Company.

Susan Mudhune

Ms. Susan O. Mudhune has served as Non-Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since May 20, 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nairobi. She also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Witwatersrand University. She is a former Chairman of Kenya Commercial Bank. She is also Fellow of Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB), a director of Eveready East Africa board, sits in the board of Center of Corporate Governance, a member of Institute of Directors (K) a Trustee of Management University of Africa (MUA) and the national chairlady of Kenya Girl Guides Association. She is Chairperson of the Audit Committee and Member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Company.

John Otty

Mr. John William Lorimer Otty has served as Non-Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since August 2013. He joined Vodafone in December 1992 and has held a number of senior executive positions in Vodafone, including that of Group Technology Financial Director, Interim CFO of Vodafone India and Vodafone PLC Group Internal Audit Director. John is the Vodafone CFO for Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific region. He joined Vodafone in December 1992 and has held a number of senior executive positions in Vodafone including that of Group Technology Financial Director, interim CFO of Vodafone India and Vodafone PLC Group Internal Audit Director. He is Member of the Audit Committee of the Company.

Serpil Timuray

Ms. Serpil Timuray serves as Non-Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd. She was appointed Executive Committee member of Vodafone Group and as Regional CEO of Africa, Middle East, Asia, Pacific and as of January 2014. Prior to this role, she was CEO of Vodafone Turkey since January 2009. Timuray also serves as a non-executive Board Member to Vodacom Group, the African telecoms group headquartered in South Africa, since September 2012. She was appointed to the Boards of Vodafone India, Vodafone Hutchison Australia, Safaricom Kenya in November 2013 and Vodafone Egypt in January 2014. Timuray joined Vodafone from Group Danone, where she was the General Manager of Danone Turkey from 2002 to 2008. She began her career in 1991 at Procter & Gamble where she was later on appointed to the Executive Committee of P&G Turkey. Timuray is currently the Chairperson of Board of YASED (International Investors Association) Board, the Vice Chairperson of Board of DEIK-TIIK (Turkish-British Business Council of Foreign Economic Relations), Board Member of TOBB-GGK (Young Entrepreneurs Council of Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges) and sits on the Board of Trustees at Koc University. She graduated in Business Administration from Bogazici Universitesi.

Gianluca Ventura

Mr. Gianluca Ventura has served as Non-Executive Director of Safaricom Ltd since March 6, 2015. He has held the role of Vodafone Group’s Human Resources Director Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific since October 2013. Ventura held the roles of HR Director of Vodafone Southern Europe since 2012 and of HR and Organization Director of Vodafone Italy since 2008. He joined Vodafone in 2003 as Head of HR Technology and became Director of the Vodafone Group’s Technology Department in 2006, based in Newbury. Previously, he worked in L’Oreal, where he held the role of Italy HR Director. Graduated from Universita Bocconi in Milan, Ventura has a CEMS Master’s Degree from Escuela Superior de Administracion y Direccion de Empresas (ESADE), Barcelona. He is Member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Company.
