Name Description

Michael Angelini

Mr. Michael P. Angelini is Independent Chairman of the Board of Company. Mr. Angelini has been Chairman of the Board since 2002, and was a director of a predecessor company from 1984 to 1996. Mr. Angelini is Chairman of the law firm of Bowditch & Dewey LLP, Worcester, Massachusetts, with which he has been associated since 1968. From 2007 until 2009, when it was merged into the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Mr. Angelini served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. He is currently the Chairman of the Massachusetts Port Authority. Mr. Angelini is also a director of Commerce Bank & Trust Company, a regional bank headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts, and a number of privately held businesses. We believe Mr. Angelini’s qualifications to serve on our Board include his years of legal and management experience, and his experience as a member of the board of directors of numerous other businesses.

Joseph Zubretsky

Mr. Joseph M. Zubretsky has been appointed as President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of the Company, effective June 20, 2016. Mr. Zubretsky joins The Hanover after almost nine years at Aetna, Inc., one of the nation’s largest healthcare benefits and insurance providers, where he most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Healthagen Holdings, a group of healthcare services and information technology companies. Prior to that, from 2013 to 2014, he served as Senior Executive Vice President leading Aetna’s National Businesses, a $10 billion business providing health solutions to multi-national companies, and from 2007 to 2013 served as Aetna’s Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Aetna in 2007, Mr. Zubretsky served in a variety of senior management roles in the healthcare and financial services sector. Mr. Zubretsky began his career as an accountant, rising to partnership in the national insurance industry group at the accounting firm then known as Coopers & Lybrand. We believe Mr. Zubretsky’s qualifications to serve on our Board include his more than 35 years in the insurance and financial services industry, his management experience leading significant business units at Aetna and elsewhere, his financial experience obtained as the Chief Financial Officer of Aetna and other prominent insurance companies, and as a partner at a major national accounting firm in its national insurance industry group.

Jeffrey Farber

Mr. Jeffrey M. Farber has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President, Senior Finance Officer of the Company, with effect from November 4, 2016. Mr. Farber joins the Company after spending the last five years at American International Group. He joined AIG as Senior Vice President and Deputy Chief Financial Officer and then was appointed Chief Risk Officer, Commercial and Consumer Business. Prior to AIG, Mr. Farber served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GAMCO Investors, Inc., a public company asset manager. Previously, he held senior accounting and finance roles at The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc., most recently as Senior Managing Director, Controller and Senior Vice President, responsible for finance, tax and global procurement. He began his career at Deloitte & Touche LLP, rising to partner in the firm.

John Fowle

Mr. John Fowle has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer - Chaucer Syndicates, Ltd, a subsidiary of the Company. Mr. Fowle has held key leadership roles at Chaucer since joining the company in 2002, most recently serving as chief underwriting officer, responsible for the development and execution of the company's underwriting strategy. Previously, he was the active underwriter of Chaucer's main syndicate, 1084. Prior to joining Chaucer, Fowle held various underwriting positions in the London and Lloyd's markets.

Robert Stuchbery

Mr. Robert Arthur Stuchbery is no longer President - International Operations, Deputy Chairman , Chaucer , a subsidiary company of The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., effective on May 31, 2016. From January 2010 to November 2015 he served as President of International Operations and Chief Executive Officer of Chaucer. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr. Stuchbery served as Chaucer's Chief Underwriting Officer from 2005 to 2009, and as Group Underwriting Director from 2000 to 2005. He was Active Underwriter for Syndicate 1096 from 1996 to 2000 and prior to that was Deputy Underwriter of Syndicate 1096 from 1988 to 1996. Before joining Chaucer in 1988, Mr. Stuchbery served in various positions with the U.K. subsidiary of a large U.S. insurer from 1976 to 1987. Mr. Stuchbery is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a member of the Lloyd’s Market Association Board where he currently serves as Deputy Chairman.

Christine Bilotti-Peterson

Ms. Christine Bilotti-Peterson is Chief Human Resource Officer, Senior Vice President of Company. Ms. Bilotti-Peterson has led Human Resources since June 2014. From January 2013 to June 2014 she served as Vice President, Human Resources for our Commercial, Specialty and Personal Lines Division. Prior to joining THG, Ms. Bilotti-Peterson spent 15 years in a variety of positions at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., last serving as Vice President, Human Resources. Ms. Bilotti-Peterson started her career with Korn Ferry International, where she placed C-level executives primarily in Insurance, Financial Services and Technology.

Richard Lavey

Mr. Richard W. Lavey is Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, President - Personal Lines of Company. Mr. Lavey has been President, Personal Lines of THG since November 2014 and Chief Marketing Officer since 2011. Mr. Lavey joined THG in 2004 and during this time has also served in the following roles: Chief Distribution Officer, Senior Vice President, Operations and Marketing; Regional President, Northeast; and Vice President, Field Operations and Marketing & Distribution. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Lavey worked for The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. and The Travelers Corp.

J. Kendall Huber

Mr. J. Kendall Huber is Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Assistant Secretary of Company. Mr. Huber has been General Counsel and Assistant Secretary since joining THG in 2000. Prior to joining THG, Mr. Huber was Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Promus Hotel Corporation from 1999 to 2000. Previously, Mr. Huber was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Legg Mason, Inc. from 1998 to 1999, and of USF&G Corporation, where he was employed from 1990 to 1998. Mr. Huber was previously with the law firm now known as DLA Piper and a Lieutenant, U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

John Roche

Mr. John C. Roche is Executive Vice President, President - Business Insurance and Field Operations of Company. Prior to that he served as Senior Vice President, President Business Insurance from 2009 to 2013. From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Roche served as Vice President, Field Operations and from 2006 to 2007, Mr. Roche was Vice President, Underwriting and Product Management, Commercial Lines. From 1994 to 2006, Mr. Roche served in a variety of leadership positions at St. Paul Travelers Companies, Inc., last serving as Vice President, Commercial Accounts. Previously, Mr. Roche served in a variety of underwriting and management positions at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company.

Mark Berthiaume

Mr. Mark L. Berthiaume is Senior Vice President, Chief Administration Officer of Company. Prior to joining the Company, from 2001 to 2014, Mr. Berthiaume held a number of senior roles with The Chubb Corporation, last serving as Senior Vice President, International Chief Information Officer. Previously, Mr. Berthiaume was Vice President, Specialty Insurance Chief Information Officer of Orion Capital/Royal and Sunalliance Insurance Group, from 1995 to 2001, and prior to that he held a number of systems development and support positions with several insurance companies, including THG.

Mark Welzenbach

Mr. Mark Welzenbach is Senior Vice President, Chief Claims Officer of Company. Mr. Welzenbach has been Chief Claims Officer of THG since joining the Company in 2005. Before joining the Company, Mr. Welzenbach was Senior Vice President, Claims for The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. from 1995 to 2005. Prior to that, he was Director of Claims from 1991 to 1995 for Travelers Insurance Company. Mr. Welzenbach began his career as a practicing attorney.

Jane Carlin

Ms. Jane D. Carlin serves as Director of the Company. Over the course of her career, Carlin has served in senior roles with leading companies, including Morgan Stanley Group Inc. and Credit Suisse Group AG. At Morgan Stanley, she held a number of leadership positions, from 2006 to 2012, and previously from 1987 to 2003, when she served as managing director and deputy general counsel. Most recently, she was managing director, global head of financial holding company governance and assurance. From 2003 to 2006, Carlin was managing director and global head of bank operational risk oversight at Credit Suisse. Since 2014, Ms. Carlin has served as an advisor to the chief risk and compliance office at Bloomberg L.P., and from 2012 to 2015 served as a consultant to Bridgewater Associates, LP. In 2010, Carlin was appointed by the U.S. Treasury Department as chair of the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council for Critical Infrastructure Protection and Homeland Security (FSSCC) and served in that role until 2012. Prior to that, from 2009 to 2010, she served as vice chair of the FSSCC and as chair of its Cyber Security Committee. Ms. Carlin serves as a director of PHH Corporation (NYSE: PHH) and iShares Inc., and as a trustee of iShares Trust and iShares U.S. ETF Trust.

P. Kevin Condron

Mr. P. Kevin Condron is Independent Director of Company. Mr. Condron has served as Chairman and CEO of The Granite Group LLC, a plumbing and heating wholesaler, and one of its predecessor companies, since 1972. Mr. Condron is a director of TD Bank, Inc., a financial services company, and is former Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the College of the Holy Cross. We believe Mr. Condron’s qualifications to serve on our Board include his experience as a CEO, his experience on numerous other boards of directors, including TD Bank, which was a public company during much of his tenure on that board, and his experience as an entrepreneur with substantial business experience.

Karen Francis

Ms. Karen C. Francis is no longer Independent Director of Company, with effect from May 2017. Ms. Francis is Executive Chairman of AcademixDirect, Inc., a technology marketing company serving the education industry. Ms. Francis served as Executive Chairman and CEO of AcademixDirect, Inc. from 2009 to 2014. Prior to joining AcademixDirect, Inc. in 2009, Ms. Francis was Chairman and CEO of Publicis & Hal Riney, an advertising agency based in San Francisco. From 2001 to 2002, Ms. Francis was a Vice President of Ford Motor Company and President and CEO of ConsumerConnect, where she was responsible for global e-business strategies, customer relationship management and export operations. Ms. Francis was Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer of Internet Capital Group, an e-commerce company, from 2000 through 2001. Ms. Francis also held several positions with General Motors from 1996 through 2000, including serving as General Manager of the Oldsmobile division. Prior to joining General Motors, Ms. Francis was a consultant at Bain & Company. Ms. Francis started her career in marketing at Procter & Gamble. Ms. Francis also formerly served on the Board of Trustees for Dartmouth College. Ms. Francis is a director of AutoNation, Inc., a publicly traded automotive retailer, and a certified Board Governance Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors. We believe Ms. Francis’s qualifications to serve on our Board include her experiences as a CEO, experience as an executive with Ford Motor Company and with other large global companies, and her experience in technology, marketing and working for major property and casualty insurance company clients while at Bain & Company.

Daniel Henry

Mr. Daniel T. Henry is Independent Director of Company. Until his retirement, Mr. Henry served as Chief Financial Officer of American Express Company, a global financial services company, from 2007 to 2013. Mr. Henry joined American Express in 1990 and served in a variety of senior finance roles including Comptroller. Prior to joining American Express, Mr. Henry was a Partner with Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Henry is also a director of Groupon, Inc., a publicly traded operator of online local marketplaces, and Veritiv Corporation, a publicly traded company that provides business-to-business distribution solutions. We believe Mr. Henry’s qualifications to serve on our Board include his experience as a CFO at a major financial services company, and his experience on the boards of directors of other publicly traded companies.

Wendell Knox

Wendell J. Knox is Independent Director of Company. Until his retirement in 2009, Mr. Knox was President and CEO of Abt Associates, a policy research and business consulting firm, where he had been employed since 1969. Mr. Knox is also a director of Abt Associates, Inc. and Eastern Bank, a mutually owned commercial bank, and is a trustee of the Natixis and Loomis Sayles Mutual Fund Complex, a fund complex comprised of 42 funds. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Maine Pointe, LLC, a logistics and supply chain management consulting firm. We believe Mr. Knox’s qualifications to serve on our Board include his experience as a CEO, combined with his corporate governance expertise and experience with other boards of directors.

Joseph Ramrath

Mr. Joseph R. Ramrath is Independent Director of Company. Mr. Ramrath has been Managing Director of Colchester Partners LLC, an investment banking and strategic advisory firm, since 2002. Mr. Ramrath was Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of the United Asset Management division of Old Mutual plc, an international financial services firm headquartered in London, England, from 2000 to 2002. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of United Asset Management Corporation from 1996 until its acquisition by Old Mutual in 2000. Earlier in his career, Mr. Ramrath was a partner at Hill & Barlow, a Boston law firm, and a certified public accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. We believe Mr. Ramrath’s qualifications to serve on our Board include his accounting, financial and legal background, his experience as a member of management and on the board of directors with other public companies, as well as his years of experience as an advisor to investment advisory companies. Mr. Ramrath is Chairman of the Audit Committee. Mr. Ramrath’s term expires in 2018. He is, however, being nominated for re-election at the Annual Meeting for a term expiring in 2019. Since Mr. Ramrath is a nominee whose current term does not otherwise expire at the upcoming Annual Meeting, if he is not elected, then his tendered resignation would not be effective until the end of his current term in 2018.

Harriett Taggart

Dr. Harriett “Tee” Taggart is Independent Director of Company. Dr. Taggart currently manages a professional practice, Taggart Associates. She also serves as an endowment investment committee member, evaluating global portfolio managers and asset allocation strategies, for several major non-profit organizations. From 1983 through 2006, Dr. Taggart was a Partner, Senior Vice President and sector portfolio manager at Wellington Management LLC, a global investment company. Dr. Taggart is a director of Albemarle Corporation, a publicly traded specialty chemical manufacturer, and is a trustee of the Eaton Vance Mutual Fund Complex, a fund complex comprised of 174 funds. She served as a director of The Lubrizol Corporation, a publicly traded specialty chemical manufacturer, from 2007 until its acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway in 2011. Dr. Taggart is also on the boards of trustees and advisory committees of several non-profit organizations and active in a number of corporate governance organizations. We believe Dr. Taggart’s qualifications to serve on our Board include her three decades of experience in the financial services industry, as well as her executive leadership and management experience and experience with other public company boards of directors.
