Name Description
Garner, William Dr. William J. Garner, M.D. is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since July 13, 2007. Prior to that date, Dr. Garner was President and Chief Executive Officer of Urigen N.A., Inc. Dr. Garner is an experienced entrepreneur. Prior to founding Urigen N.A., Dr. Garner had been the founder and managing director of EGB Advisors, LLC, a pharmaceutical commercialization boutique. Through this entity, Dr. Garner worked on a number of biopharmaceutical business transactions and has raised financing for another company that he founded called Inverseon, Inc., developing a novel therapy for asthma. Before this, Dr. Garner worked in medical affairs at Hoffmann LaRoche in oncology. Prior to Hoffmann LaRoche, Dr. Garner was in the venture capital department at Paramount Capital Investments in New York City. Dr. Garner has a Master of Public Health from Harvard and received his M.D. degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Garner did residency training in Anatomic Pathology at Columbia-Presbyterian and is currently a licensed physician in the State of New York.
Shmagin, Martin Mr. Martin E. Shmagin Chief Financial Officer, Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since July 13, 2007. Prior to that date, Mr. Shmagin served as Chief Financial Officer of Urigen N.A., Inc. For over ten years Mr. Shmagin served as President of Innovative Financial Solutions Ltd., an accounting and financial consulting firm that serves as Chief Financial Officer and Controller for start-up through mid-size businesses. From 1978 to 1986, Mr. Shmagin was Vice President, Finance/Chief Financial Officer of Fisher & Brother, Inc. From 1986 to 1989, he was Comptroller of Strober Bros., Inc. and supported the company’s successful initial public offering. He then opened his own consulting firm where he assisted Stenograph Corporation with its acquisition of Baron Data Corporation and Hanover Direct with its acquisition of Gumps. He also supported a $24 million global systems conversion of American President Companies, Ltd., a $2.6 billion transportation company, where he coordinated the data conversion of eighty-three subsidiaries in multiple currencies. Mr. Shmagin holds a B.S. degree in accounting from New York University.
Lasezkay, George Dr. George M. Lasezkay, Pharm.D., J.D., is Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since May 2004. Since September 2003, Dr. Lasezkay has provided business development and strategic advisory services to biotechnology and emerging pharmaceutical companies through his consulting firm, Turning Point Consultants. From 1989 to 2002, Dr. Lasezkay served in various positions at Allegan, Inc., including Assistant General Counsel from 1994 to 1996, Vice President, Corporate Development from 1996 to 1998, and Corporate Vice President, Corporate Development from 1998 to 2002. Dr. Lasezkay currently serves on the board of directors of a number of privately-held companies. Dr. Lasezkay received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center and his Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Parsons, C. Lowell Dr. C. Lowell Parsons, M.D., is Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is a leader in medical research into the causes and treatment of interstitial cystitis, which is a painful bladder syndrome with typical cystoscopic and/or histological features in the absence of infection or other pathology, and has published over 200 scientific articles and book chapters in this area describing his work. Dr. Parsons received his M.D. degree from the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, in 1970. After completing his medical internship at Yale in 1971, Dr. Parsons spent two years as a staff associate in the Laboratory of Microbiology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He then completed his urology residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1977. Dr. Parsons joined the Division of Urology faculty at the University of California, San Diego, or UCSD, in 1977 as assistant professor. He served as Chief of Urology at the UCSD-affiliated Veterans Affairs Medical Center in La Jolla from 1977 to 1985. Since 1988, he has been Professor of Surgery/Urology at UCSD.
Sullivan, Cynthia Ms. Cynthia Sullivan is Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc . She currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Immunomedics (NasdaqGM: IMMU), a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of products for cancer, autoimmune, and other serious diseases. She has been employed by Immunomedics since 1985 and has held various positions, including Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and President. Prior to joining Immunomedics, Ms. Sullivan was employed by Ortho Diagnostic Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. She earned a BS from Merrimack College, North Andover, Massachusetts, followed by a year of clinical internship with the school of Medical Technology at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, New Jersey, resulting in a M.T. (ASCP) certification. She completed an MS degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University where she also received her MBA.
Watkins, Robert Mr. Robert J. Watkins is Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He established R.J. Watkins & Company, Ltd., an executive recruiting and consulting firm, and currently serves as President and Chairman. Mr. Watkins’ experience includes President and Chief Executive Officer of a $200 million entertainment company and Managing Director for the San Diego office of the international consulting firm of Russell Reynolds Associates. He has held executive positions with American Hospital Supply Corporation, serving on the corporation’s acquisition and divestiture team. He also served as Management Consultant for the national accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. Mr. Watkins holds a BA degree from San Diego State University.
Goldberg, Michael Mr. Michael M. Goldberg is the Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since June 11, 2009. He is currently is a managing partner of Montaur Capital Partners, an investment firm, a position he has held since January 2007. From August 1990 to January 2007, Dr. Goldberg was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Emisphere Technologies. Prior to this, Dr. Goldberg was a Vice President for The First Boston Corporation, where he was a founding member of the Healthcare Banking Group. Dr. Goldberg has served as a Director of Adventrx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX:ANX) since January 2004. Teitel, Edward Dr. Edward R. Teitel serves as Director of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of ThromboVision, Inc. Prior to founding ThromboVision in 2005, Dr. Teitel served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at MicroMed Technology, Inc. (now MicroMed Cardiovascular, Inc.). As a part of senior management at MicroMed, Dr. Teitel participated in all aspects of clinical trials and regulatory matters, business scope and fund raising activities, as well as legal matters. As chief medical officer for the DeBakey Left Ventricular Assist Device at MicroMed, Dr. Teitel acquired extensive experience in platelet function and anti-platelet therapy, especially relating to artificial surface devices. Before joining MicroMed Technology in 2002, Dr. Teitel practiced for many years as a board certified general and vascular surgeon. He founded, managed, and developed a multi-specialty group practice in Alabama until he closed his practice in 1997 to transition into corporate medicine and management. Dr. Teitel earned his MBA at Auburn University and worked with a boutique investment banking firm, Colby Capital, in Atlanta where he worked to fund start-up companies in the life sciences. After completing law school in 2002, he joined the senior management team at MicroMed. Dr. Teitel earned his MD degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and completed his surgical residency at St. Mercy Medical Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Houston, with a focus in healthcare law, intellectual property and business law. Dr. Teitel holds a BS in chemistry from Sul Ross State University.
Vickery, Dan Dr. Dan B. Vickery, PhD has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Urigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. with effect from January 08, 2010. Dr. Vickery is a pharmaceutical business development consultant. Prior to starting his practice in 2005, he held a senior business development position at Mylan Pharmaceuticals, overseeing their Branded Products and Drug Delivery divisions, during which he focused on transactions for Drug Delivery products in the EU, and in-licensing and out-licensing of branded products. Prior to joining Mylan, Dr. Vickery had worldwide commercial development responsibility at Pharmacia for the therapeutic areas of Urology, Women’s Health Care, and Sexual Dysfunction. Dr. Vickery also has experience in drug development, having lead the Regulatory Affairs department at Parke-Davis division, Warner-Lambert Canada, during the time in which Lipitor was approved and launched. Dr. Vickery has an M.B.A. from the Ivey Business School, University of Western Ontario, and his Ph.D. (Genetics) and B.Sc. (Biology) are from the University of British Columbia.
