Name Description
Varas, Jorge Mr. Jorge Patricio Varas is serving as the President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Western Potash Corp. He is a Professional Geologist with over 21 years’ experience in exploration, project and corporate management. Mr. Varas has worked and collaborated with major and junior mining companies in exploration projects that span North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. He was involved in the discovery of the Diavik Diamond mine as a project manager while at Kennecott Canada Exploration Inc. (“Kennecott”), a division of Rio Tinto plc, and was instrumental in the project management that led to the discovery of the Santo Domingo Sur deposit in Chile with FarWest Mining Ltd. Mr. Varas was employed by FarWest Mining Ltd. from November 1997 to June 2007 where he held the roles of Exploration Manager and Vice President. Mr. Varas was also a director of Far West Mining Ltd. from June 1999 to June 2007.
Nikolai, Troy Mr. Troy Nikolai is serving as the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Western Potash Corp. He brings nine years of accounting and auditing experience to the Company and the board. He has considerable knowledge of the compliance requirements of various exchanges and an extensive understanding of public financial reporting. Mr. Nikolai also serves as a director on various other private company boards and holds the position of president for a large British Columbia charity entrusted with overseeing the administration of over $15 million dollars worth of public funds annually. Since July 1998 Mr. Nikolai has been employed as a staff accountant with the firm HLB Cinnamon Jang & Willoughby Chartered Accountants.
Costigan, John Mr. John Costigan is serving as the Vice President - Corporate Development of Western Potash Corp. He is a former Vice President of AKP Canada Ltd. where he was employed from November 1989 until October 2007. He has over 21 years’ experience in technical sales and marketing for mining, food and pulp and paper multinationals. Mr. Costigan’s responsibilities included supply chain management and contract negotiations in North America, Thailand, Germany and Brazil.
Pekeski, Dean Mr. Dean Pekeski is serving as the Vice President - Exploration of Western Potash Corp. He is a Professional Geologist registered in Manitoba and a graduate of the University ofWestern Ontario with over 15 years’ experience in mineral exploration. From April 1996 until March 2008, Mr. Pekeski was employed as an exploration geologist and project manager for Kennecott for whom he has explored for base metal and diamond deposits in Canada, southern Africa and India. Mr. Pekeski’s achievements include leading the exploration team that discovered and evaluated the diamondiferous Bunder kimberlites in India. His most recent responsibilities included managing Kennecott’s diamond exploration programs in North America.
Power, Patrick Mr. Patrick Power is serving as the Corporate Secretary, Director of Western potash Corp. He has over 15 years of experience as a stock market professional and as director of public companies. He is currently the President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of Arctic Star Diamond Corp. (since December 2000); the Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and a director of Pennant Energy Inc. (since March 2003); the President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of Austin Developments Corp. (since November 1990); and a director of Amarillo Gold Corporation (since November 2004). The Company benefits from Mr. Power’s wealth of transactional and capital-raising experience, as well as his experience as an executive of several publicly listed companies.
Hodge, David Mr. David Hodge is serving as the Director of Western Potash Corp. He is the President of Petrol One Corp., a junior oil and gas issuer and the President of Commerce Resources Corp., a junior resource issuer. He has held these positions since July 1996 and May 1999, respectively. Mr. Hodge contributes to Western Potash’s board with many years of company management, financing and public company experience. He is a valuable contributor and advisor with respect to regulatory compliance and filings. He has stewarded Commerce Resources Corp.’s Blue River Project from its acquisition in 2000 through to its current development stage activities.
Doyle, Buddy Mr. Buddy James Doyle is serving as the Independent Director of Western Potash corp. His experience includes more than 25 years’ of exploring for gold and diamonds. Mr. Doyle led the team that discovered the currently-producing Diavik/Aber Diamond mine and served as Vice President of Exploration for North American Diamonds with Kennecott between March 1993 and March 2004. During his tenure more than 100 kimberlites were discovered. Since March 2004, Mr. Doyle has been a self-employed industry consultant. He presently acts as the Chief Executive Officer of Amarillo Gold Corporation and as a director of Arctic Star Diamond Corp. and Sanatana Diamonds Inc. Mr. Doyle was recently awarded the Hugo Dummitt Award for excellence in diamond exploration by his peers in the industry. Mr. Doyle brings to the Company a disciplined scientific approach to mineral exploration and proven managerial skills.
