Mohammed Al Charchafchi

Assad Al Banwan

Mr. Assad Ahmad Omran Al Banwan has been appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board, representing Jawharat Al Jabla for Stock Trading at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC as of February 20, 2014. He serves as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since March 21, 2005. He completed his Bachelor of Science (Finance and Administration) from Kuwait University in 1982. Mr. Al Banwan began his career immediately with the Kuwait Foreign Trading Contracting and Investment Company (KFTCIC, now the Kuwait Investment Company), where he became Senior Vice-President by 1996. He then took over as the Deputy General Manager of Wafra International Investment Company, Kuwait, from 1996 to 1999. Mr. Al Banwan is currently the Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Investment Company, Kuwait (May 2000); he was Chairman and Managing Director from April 1999, and Managing Director and member of the Board since 1996. In addition, Mr. Al Banwan is a member of the Board of Directors of several regional and international companies. Prior to taking charge as chairman of Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain) on March 21, 2005, he was the Vice-Chairman and a member of the company’s Investment Committee. Mr. Al Banwan is also Vice-Chairman of the Kazma Sports Club.

Elfatih Erwa

Amb. (Retd.) Elfatih Mohammed Ahmad Erwa serves as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Zain in Sudan since 2008 and CEO of Africa Operations since May 2012 at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC (Zain) since May 2012. He joined the University of Khartoum as a student in the Faculty of Economics and Social Studies, and then moved to the Military College to graduate in 1970. Later, he worked in the Air Defense Forces and attended several training courses in Electronics, Radar and Artillery in Sudan and the United Kingdom. He served as an instructor in Sudan Military College prior to joining the National Security Services in 1976, where he served till 1985. During that period he attended several professional training courses in Intelligence, Technical operations and Strategic Studies, nationally and in the United States. He served as Consul General in the Embassies of Sudan in Moscow and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) during the period of 1977 to 1984. Erwa holds an Airline Transport Pilot License (APTL), and a helicopter Pilot license. He worked in the private sector in the aviation field from 1986 until 1987.

Scott Gegenheimer

Mr. Scott Marc Gegenheimer serves as Chief Executive Officer of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC (Zain) since December 2, 2012. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance and Management from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration from DePaul University in Chicago. Mr. Gegenheimer is a telecom veteran of over 24 years' experience. Prior to joining Zain Group, he spent the last decade in various senior management and leadership positions at regional operators, including in Kuwait. Gegenheimer has spent time working for technology heavyweights including Cisco Systems and Motorola, and has also enjoyed a stint in the financial services industry in the United States.

Badr Al Kharafi

Mr. Badr Naser Mohammed Abdul Mohsen Al Kharafi has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC as of February 20, 2014. He serves as Member of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since April 12, 2011. Mr. Al Kharafi currently holds office as Chairman, Vice President and board member of several businesses as part of the Kharafi conglomerate. Al Kharafi has a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kuwait University, and has a track record in spearheading crucial business development as well as consultancy operations for firms and social institutions. These senior roles inside the Group include Chairman and Managing Director of Gulf Cables & Electrical Industries Company, Kuwait; Group Vice President, Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi & Sons WLL Kuwait. Outside the Kharafi Group, to name a few, he is General Manager of Al-Khair National for Stocks & Real Estate Co; Member of the Board-Refreshment Trading Company (Coca-Cola); and Vice Chairman - UNIEXPO, Kuwait.

Ousama Matta

Mr. Ousama Michael Matta serves as Chief Financial Officer - Zain Group for Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since June 10, 2010. He has 15 years of experience in finance, corporate finance and management in the Middle East. He joined Zain in 2004 as the Chief Financial Officer of the Lebanon MTC touch operation, thereafter promoted in 2007 to Chief Financial Officer of Zain Kuwait. In early 2008, Mr. Matta was promoted to the role of Middle East Finance Officer, overseeing the operations of Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Sudan. Matta obtained an Executive Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the American University of Beirut, and he is a Certified Public Accountant.

Ahmad Al Hanandeh

Mr. Ahmad Al Hanandeh was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Zain Jordan at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC, effective July 1, 2011. He comes to Zain Jordan with a professional track record, having joined as Chief Financial Officer of Zain Sudan mobile operation in March 2011. Before that, he was for four years the General Manager of Posta Plus, the Gulf-based company specializing in world-class delivery, courier and postal services across the Middle East. From 1994 to 2006, he was a key member of the Aramex Group initially joining as an accountant and rising to country manager of several of Aramex’s Asian operations. He graduated in Finance and Banking from Yarmouk University, Jordan in 1994.

Mr. Mohammed Zainalabedin serves as General Manager of Zain in Bahrain at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since May 1, 2008. Prior to this appointment, he acted as Chief Commercial Officer for Zain Bahrain, where he was responsible for the sales, marketing and customer care departments. Prior to joining Zain Bahrain, he had attained almost 10 years of experience in the information technology (IT) field, working for companies, such as International Turnkey Systems, where he held the position of the core banking group manager in the banking group. Zainalabedin holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Computer Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia.

Hisham Allam

Mr. Hisham Allam serves as Chief Technology Officer, Zain Group at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since December 2011. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Allam was the Chief Operating Officer of Zain Sudan, having joined the operation in May 2003 as Chief Technology Officer. He has over 20 years of experience in the fields of Information Technology and Telecommunications. In Zain Sudan, Mr. Allam helped build a nationwide network while deploying the latest technologies, including IP and mobile broadband, which contributed to substantially increasing the customer base while sustaining the company’s market leadership position. Mr. Allam holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering degree from the University of Kent in England. Allam also attended several courses ranging from software development to systems administration as well as leadership and management.

Adlai Shalabi

Mr. Adlai Shalabi has been appointed as Head of Legal for Zain Group effective May 1, 2015. As the chief legal advisor in charge of all legal matters at Zain Group, Mr. Shalabi manages a legal team that provides support and advice related to all of the Zain’s activities including Corporate Structuring, Compliance, Strategy, Commercial, Finance, M&A, Tax, Litigation, Labor Law, Human Resources and Procurement. Mr. Shalabi also oversees the more complex and materially impactful legal issues for the Group’s affiliates. Mr. Shalabi is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Arab American Bar Association, as well as various legal societies in Illinois, and is member in good standing with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. He has also served as the Legal Committee Chairman of the Advisory Council to the City of Chicago’s Commission on Human Relations. He was an accelerated three-year graduate in 1989 from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he double majored in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and minored in History. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree, he attended John Marshall Law School and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1993.

Mr. Omar Saud Al Omar serves as Senior Advisor to Zain Group CEO at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC with effect December 1, 2015. Prior to that, he was Chief Executive Officer of Zain Kuwait at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since October 13, 2011. Earlier, he served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Zain Kuwait and before that the Company’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) from March 2011. Between 2005 and early 2010, Mr. Al Omar held the position of Zain Group Internal Audit Director. Mr. Al Omar joined Zain (then MTC) in September 2001, having worked previously in an internal audit capacity in the Kuwait Investment Authority. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from California State University. Mr. Al Omar is also a Certified Internal Auditor from The Institute of Internal Auditors.

Wael Ghanayem

Mr. Wael Ghanayem serves as Advisor to the Zain Iraq Board since April 1, 2015. Earlier, he served as of Chief Operational Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Zain Iraq at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since 2008. Mr. Ghanayem joined Zain Iraq having already had more than 10 years of experience in the telecommunications industry in a previous role as a CFO for a telecom operator in Palestine. Ghanayem has been a qualified Certified Public Accountant since 1996, having also secured a Bachelors degree in Administrative Sciences from Yarmouk University, Jordan; and a Master of Science in leadership and strategy from London Business School.

Emre Gurkan

Mr. Emre Gurkan was appointed Chief Strategy Officer of Mobile Tele communications Co KSC (Zain Group) effective February 10, 2014. He is seasoned Tele communications executive, he comes to Zain with over 20 years of experience, encompassing consulting and industry experience in Middle East, Africa, North America and Europe. Prior to joining Zain, Mr. Gurkan was the Group Chief Strategy Officer of Oger Telecom. He has also held other senior roles in A.T. Kearney and McKinsey & Company in Atlanta, Dallas, Istanbul and Dubai offices and served telecom operators in various regions. In addition, he also worked at Turkcell Telecommunications and Baan Company and was a co-founder of an applications development company. Mr. Gurkan holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MS in Management Information Systems from London School of Economics and Political Science and a BS in Computer Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.

Venkatesh Jandhyala

Mr. Venkatesh Jandhyala was appointed Chief Internal Auditor of Zain Group effective April 1, 2014. Rising through the ranks within Zain Group, Mr. Jandhyala is a dynamic professional with over 24 years of proven leadership track record with telecommunication and consulting firms, having worked in complex business environments in Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East & Asia. A firm advocate of transparency and strict corporate governance, he has deep experience in the areas covering internal audit, revenue assurance and fraud management. He has well established credentials in developing new and strengthening critical pillars of Risk Management, in his years at Zain. He has led several major successful issue resolution initiatives and was at the forefront of a few acquisition related function-specific integration projects across the African continent and the Middle East region. Mr. Jandhyala has Bachelor of Commerce and Law degrees from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India and has received a scholarship for a dual degree in Master of Science in International Finance and a MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Miami, USA, receiving the Playmobil award for Honors in Accounting. He also has a Chartered/Board Secretary diploma from India.

Shaikha Al Bahar

Ms. Shaikha Khalid Al Bahar serves as Member of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since April 12, 2011. She is the Chief Executive Officer at National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and board member of various divisions within NBK having experience in the region, in the areas of privatization, project finance, advisory services, bond issues, BOT, IPOs, GDRs, and private placements. Al Bahar has been involved in all of the Kuwait Investment Authority's (KIA) privatization deals since 1994. A well sought out public speaker in many local, regional and international conferences, she is also the Chairperson of the following: NBK Lebanon; Al Assima Real Estate Co. Kuwait; Audit Committee Emanating from the Board of Directors of International Bank of Qatar-IBQ. She sits as Board Member of the following: International Bank of Qatar (IBQ); Board Member of National Bank of Kuwait (International) P.L.C.; Board Member of the Turkish Bank; Board Member of NBK Global Asset Management Ltd; Board Member at Intra Investment Co. S.A.L.- Lebanon and Member of Kuwait University-College of Business Administration-Board of Trustees.

Abdul Mohsen Al Faris

Mr. Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Abdul Aziz Al Faris serves Member of the Board, representing Naseem Al Delta Stocks and Bonds Trading Company at Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC as of February 20, 2014 . He was first elected to the Board in 1999. Mr. Al Faris was previously the Chairman for Kuwait Cable Company and is currently a Board member of the Egyptian Kuwaiti Holding Company. Al Faris earned his Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Kuwait University in 1967.

Jamal Al Kandary

Mr. Jamal Ahmad Mohammed Al Kandary serves as Member of the Board, representing Danat Al Qibla Stocks and Bonds Trading Company of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC (Zain) since February 20, 2014. He was elected to the Board of Zain in 1999. He has been Vice-Chairman of Iraq Kuwaiti Holding Co since 2004. Mr. Al Kandary has also been a member of the Board of Zain Jordan since 2002. He previously held the position of Chairman of Al Ahlia Real Estate Co from 1995 until 2002. Al Kandary earned his Bachelors degree in Law from Beirut University in 1992, and a degree in Literature from Kuwait University in 1983.

Jamal Al Kazemi

Mr. Jamal Shaker Al Kazemi serves as Member of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC (Zain) since March 8, 2010. Apart from this role at Zain, Mr. Al Kazemi also serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Shaker Al Kazemi & Sons, a real estate company. He has held this position since 1982. Mr. Al Kazemi has also been Chairman of Al Arabi Sporting Club since the year 2000. Al Kazemi is a Board Member of Ahli United Bank and Vice Chairman of Marsa Alam Holding Company.

Abdul Aziz Al Nafisi

Mr. Abdul Aziz Yaqoub Yousef Al Nafisi serves as Member of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC as of February 20, 2014. Prior to that, he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC since March 4, 2010. He was elected to the Board in March 2005. He has a great depth of experience in finance and investment. He started his career with Burgan Bank in 1978, was a member of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of International Project Investment Group (1992-1996), and Chairman of Al Dar Finance (1998-2003). He has been a member of the Board of the Arab Telecom Co. from 2000 and Chairman since 2003, in addition to being CEO of the Al Nafisi National Group since 1986. Al Nafisi earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Whittier College, California, in 1977.

Mr. Walid Abdullah Mishary Al Roudan serves as Member of the Board of Mobile Telecommunications Co KSC, representing Kuwait Investment Authority since April 24, 2011. Mr. Al Roudan joined the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) in 1986 and held several positions until he was appointed Manager of Investments - General Reserves in 2006. This area of KIA manages local and Arab investments in companies and funds in which KIA is a shareholder. He also represents the KIA on the Boards of companies where KIA is a shareholder. Apart from being a Member of the Board of Directors of Zain Group, Mr. Al Roudan is also Chairman of the Board of EK Holding. He is also a Member of the Supreme Commission, which oversees projects that are held on State property. Mr. Al Roudan holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Kuwait University.
