Barrick Gold Corporation (Barrick), incorporated on March 10, 1995, is engaged in the production and sale of gold, as well as related activities, such as exploration and mine development. The Company produces copper, principally from its Zaldivar joint venture and Lumwana mine, and holds other interests. The Company's segments include Cortez, Goldstrike, Pueblo Viejo, Lagunas Norte, Veladero, Turquoise Ridge, Porgera, Kalgoorlie, Acacia Mining plc (Acacia), Lumwana, Zaldivar and Pascua-Lama Project.
The Company's material properties include Cortez Property, Goldstrike Property, Pueblo Viejo Mine, Lagunas Norte Mine and Veladero Mine. The Company's gold mines include Bulyanhulu, Buzwagi, North Mara, Kalgoorlie, Porgera, Williams Mine, Goldstrike Open Pit, Goldstrike Underground, South Arturo, Round Mountain, Bald Mountain, Cortez, Golden Sunlight, Turquoise Ridge, Pueblo Viejo, Lagunas Norte, Pascua-Lama, Cerro Casale and Veladero. Its copper mines include Zaldivar, Lumwana and Jabal Sayid.
The Cortez property is located over 100 kilometers southwest of Elko, Nevada in Lander and Eureka counties at elevations ranging from 1,370 meters to 1,675 meters. The Cortez property encompasses an area of approximately 272,725 hectares. The Cortez property consists of the Cortez Hills, Pipeline, Cortez and Gold Acres Complexes. The mining activity is primarily focused on the Cortez Hills and Pipeline Complexes. The Cortez property is situated along the Cortez/Battle Mountain trend. The principal gold deposits and mining operations are located in the southern portion of Crescent Valley. The Cortez Hills deposit consists of the Breccia Zone, Middle Zone, Lower Zone, and the Pediment deposit. The Cortez property produces approximately one million ounces of gold.
The Goldstrike property is located in Elko and Eureka Counties in north central Nevada, approximately 40 kilometers north of the town of Carlin, at an elevation of over 1,700 meters in the hilly terrain of the Tuscarora Mountains. The mining activity at Goldstrike is primarily focused on the Betze pit, Rodeo and Meikle underground and South Arturo pit. The Goldstrike property has over 4,198 hectares of surface rights ownership/control and over 3,535 hectares of mineral rights ownership/control. The Goldstrike property includes a total of approximately 298 unpatented mining and millsite claims to control the public acreage. The Goldstrike property has over two processing facilities, including an autoclave installation, which treats the property's non-carbonaceous sulfide (refractory) ore, and the roaster, which is used to treat the property's carbonaceous ore. These processing facilities treat the ore from Goldstrike's open pit and underground mines, as well as ore from Barrick's Cortez property.
The Pueblo Viejo mine is an open pit mining operation located in the central part of the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola in the province of Sanchez Ramirez. The mine is approximately 100 kilometers northwest of the national capital of Santo Domingo. The Pueblo Viejo deposits are located in the Monte Negro pit and the Moore pit.
The Lagunas is an open pit, heap leaching operation located in the Alto Chicama mining district, approximately 140 kilometers east of the coastal city of Trujillo, Peru. The property is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Andes and is at an elevation of 4,000 to 4,260 meters above sea level. Lagunas Norte produces approximately 582,000 ounces of gold.
The Veladero mine is an open pit mine using heap leaching located in San Juan Province, Argentina. The mine is located immediately to the south of Barrick's Pascua-Lama project and approximately 360 kilometers by road northwest of the city of San Juan at elevations of between 3,900 and 4,800 meters above sea level. The Veladero mine comprises various mining properties, such as the Veladero mining group, consisting of over eight mining concessions, and the Filo Norte mining group, consisting of over five mining concessions. The Veladero mining properties covers an area of approximately 14,420 hectares. Veladero produces approximately 602 thousand ounces of gold.
Turquoise Ridge is an underground mine that uses underhand drift-and-fill mining methods. The Turquoise Ridge mine produces approximately 217 thousand ounces of gold.
The Porgera joint venture is an open pit and underground gold mine. In Papua New Guinea, the location of the Porgera joint venture operated by Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) in which Barrick has an interest, BNL has access to over 5,300 square kilometers of exploration property.
The Kalgoorlie mine is an open-pit, truck-and-loader operation with an underground component. Newmont Mining Corporation (Newmont) is the operator of the joint venture. Barrick's interest in the Kalgoorlie mine produces approximately 320 thousand ounces of gold.
Acacia Mining plc
The Company has equity interests in Acacia. Acacia's operations consist of its Bulyanhulu underground mine, its North Mara open pit and underground mine and its Buzwagi open pit mine, all located in Tanzania.
The Lumwana mine is an open pit copper mine with a conventional sulfide flotation processing facility. The Lumwana copper mine is located in Zambia.
Zaldivar is an open pit heap leach copper mine. Barrick's interest in the Zaldivar joint venture produces approximately 218 million pounds of copper.
