Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd., incorporated on July 27, 2005, is a holding company. The Company is a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets integrated platform solutions, including systems-on-a-chip (SoCs), firmware, software development tools and reference designs, for manufacturers of portable media players and smart handheld devices, such as Bluetooth audio and music devices, tablets and over-the-top (OTT) boxes. The Company's subsidiaries include Actions (Zhuhai) Microelectronics Co., Ltd., Actions (Zhuhai) Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd., Actions Technology (HK) Company Limited, Actions Capital Investment (Malaysia) Inc. Co., Ltd., Mavrix Technology, Inc. and Actions Microelectronics Co., Ltd., among others.
The Company's SoCs for portable media players are integrated circuits that incorporate a digital signal processor, a micro controller unit, embedded memory, codec, a power management unit (PMU) and other components all within one chip. The Company's SoCs are manufactured using mixed-mode, complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) processes and are used by the customers to lower the number of components required to manufacture their finished products. The Company's SoC products also include on-chip memory, controllers for color liquid crystal display, and analog components, including digital-to-analog converters, phase lock loops and universal serial bus (USB) transceivers. The Company's SoCs include ATM9009, ATM7059, ATM7029B, ATM7039, ATM7021 and ATM7013 for tablets; ATV6003 and ATJ2273C for MP4; AK2119C, ATJ3310C, AK2117C, ATJ3315C and ATJ2127 for MP3; ATJ3003C for Car Audio Dongle; ATS2511, ATS2513, ATS2500 and ATS2506 for Boom-Box; ATS2805A and ATS2805B for Bluetooth, and GT9, ATM7039S and ATM7029 for OTT box.
Solution Development Kits
The Company's solution development kits (SDKs) include the embedded firmware code, software tools and documentation necessary to utilize SoCs in tablets, portable media players and OTT boxes. The firmware utilizes an embedded structure design with standard interface that allows the customers to pick and choose functionalities and add new device drivers. SDKs have the capability to enable audio, image and video playback and encoding through optimized implementation of digital media compression and decompression functions; support a range of file types, audio, images, text and video through a format management system; support firmware upgrades that allow the addition of new features; incorporate a standard library function, such as digital music file decoder, voice recorder, file system management and data storage functions; scale the processor speed depending on required function at the time, and reduce the required data movement and associated power drain through memory allocation techniques.
The Company competes with ALi, AllWinner, Amlogic, Anyka, BestRely, Buildwin/Appotek, RDA, Freescale, Infotmic, Intel, JieLI, MediaTek, MVSilicon, Rockchip, CSR, ISSC and WonderMedia.
