iShares S&P Asia 50 Index Fund (the Fund) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance of the S&P Asia 50 Index (the Index). The Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization index that is designed to measure the performance of the 50 leading companies from four Asian countries: Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. The Fund will concentrate its investments in a particular industry or group of industries to approximately the same extent as the Index is so concentrated. The Fund’s investment advisor is Barclays Global Fund Advisors (BGFA).
The Fund generally will invest at least 90% of its assets in the securities of its Index or in American depositary receipts (ADRs), global depositary receipts (GDRs) or European depositary receipts (EDRs) (collectively, depositary receipts) or other depositary receipts representing securities in the Index. The Fund may invest the remainder of its assets in securities not included in its Index, but which may help the Fund to track its Index. The Fund also may invest its other assets in futures contracts, options on futures contracts, options, and swaps related to its Index, as well as cash and cash equivalents, including shares of money market funds affiliated with BGFA. S&P, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., is the index provider for the Index.
