Alabama Power Company, incorporated on November 10, 1927, is engaged in the generation and purchase of electricity, and the transmission, distribution and sale of such electricity. The Company provides electricity to retail and wholesale customers within its service territory located in the State of Alabama in addition to wholesale customers in the Southeast. It sells electricity at retail in approximately 400 cities and towns (including Anniston, Birmingham, Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa), as well as in rural areas, and at wholesale to over 10 municipally owned electric distribution systems, approximately 10 of which are served indirectly through sales to Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), and over two rural distributing cooperative associations. The Company owns coal reserves near its Plant Gorgas and uses the output of coal from the reserves in its generating plants. The Company also sells and cooperates with dealers in promoting the sale of electric appliances. The Company is a subsidiary of Southern Company.

The Company owns and contracts for the operation of approximately two nuclear units and Georgia Power holds undivided interests in and contracts for the operation of over four existing nuclear units. It owns an undivided interest in Units 1 and 2 at Plant Miller and related facilities. The Company owns tenants in Units 1 and 2 (total capacity of approximately 500 megawatts (MWs)) at Greene County Steam Plant, which is located in Alabama and operated by the Company. It provides electricity supply and service to approximately 1.4 million homes, businesses and industries in the southern two-thirds of Alabama. The Company owns Southern Electric Generating Company (SEGCO), which owns electric generating units with a total rated capacity of 1,020 MWs, as well as associated transmission facilities.

The Company's plants include Bankhead Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Bouldin Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Ernest C. Gaston Electric Generating Plant, Gadsden Electric Generating Plant, GE Plastics Cogen Facility, Greene County Electric Generating Plant, Harris Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Henry Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Holt Hydroelectric Generating Plant, James H. Miller, James M. Barry Electric Generating Plant, Jordan Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Electric Generating Plant, Lay Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Logan Martin Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Martin Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Mitchell Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Smith Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Theodore Cogen Facility, Thurlow Hydroelectric Generating Plant, Washington County Cogen Facility, Weiss Hydroelectric Generating Plant, William Crawford Gorgas Electric Generating Plant and Yates Hydroelectric Generating Plant. The Company's plants provide its customers with electric energy.
