Associated British Foods plc, incorporated on October 20, 1934, is a diversified international food, ingredients and retail company. The Company's five segments include grocery, sugar, agriculture, ingredients and retail. The Company's geographical segments include the United Kingdom, Europe and Africa, the Americas and Asia Pacific.
The Company's grocery segment manufactures grocery products, including hot beverages, sugar and sweeteners, vegetable oils, bread and baked goods, cereals, ethnic foods, herbs and spices, and meat products, which are sold to retail, wholesale and foodservice businesses. Grocery comprises consumer-facing businesses that manufacture and market a range of brands both nationally and internationally. The Company's grocery brands include Allinson, Askeys, Blue Dragon, Burgen, Capullo, Crusha, Don, Durkee, Jacksons of Piccadilly, Jordans, Kingsmill, KR Castlemaine, Mazola, Ovaltine, Ryvita, Silver Spoon, Speedibake, Spice Islands, Sunblest, Tip Top, Tone's and Twinings. Silver Spoon and Billington's are the retail sugar brands in the United Kingdom, complemented by a range of dessert toppings and syrups under the Askeys and Crusha brands. Its Capullo brand offers canola oil in Mexico. Its Don brand offers meat products for the Australian market using traditional European recipes and methods.
The Company's Durkee brand offers a range of spices and seasonings, including soup bases, sauces and gravies. Its Jacksons of Piccadilly brand offers a range of teas in the United Kingdom. Its KR Castlemaine brand offers hams and meats. Its Mazola brand offers corn oil. Its Ryvita brand offers a range of wholegrain foods made from rye. Its Speedibake brand supplies bakery products for retail and foodservice customers. Its Sunblest brand supplies bread, snacks and rolls. Its Tip Top brand is a supplier of bread and baked goods. Its Spice Islands brand offers a range of flavors. Its Tone's brand supplies a range of spice products for the retail and foodservice sectors in the United States. Twinings and Ovaltine are the Company's global hot beverage brands.
The Company's sugar segment is engaged in growing and processing of sugar beet and sugar cane for sale to industrial users and to Silver Spoon, which is included in the grocery segment. The Company's Sugar business operates in Europe, Southern Africa and China. The Company offers sugar and sugar-derived co-products. The Company's United Kingdom beet sugar factories produce over one million tons of sugar annually. The Company operates approximately five cane sugar mills in Guangxi Province and over two beet sugar factories in the north east of the country.
The Company's agriculture segment manufactures animal feeds and the provision of other products and services for the agriculture sector. The Company supplies products and services to farmers, feed and food manufacturers, processors and retailers. It also buys grain from farmers and supplies crop inputs through its joint venture arable operation, Frontier Agriculture.
The Company's ingredients segment manufactures bakers' yeast, bakery ingredients, enzymes, lipids, yeast extracts and cereal specialties. The Company, through AB Mauri, operates globally in yeast and bakery ingredient production with approximately 55 plants in over 30 countries and sales in over 90 countries, which support the bakers, both and small, across craft/artisan and industrial. The Company's ABF Ingredients focuses on ingredients for food and non-food applications.
The Company's retail segment buys and merchandises value clothing and accessories through the Primark and Penneys retail chains. The Company's Primark retail group operates stores in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, France and the United States. Its Primark's range includes women swear, lingerie, children swear, menswear, footwear, accessories, hosiery and home ware.
