Morgan Stanley China A Share Fund, Inc. (the Fund), incorporated on July 6, 2006, is a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Fund’s investment objective is to seek capital growth. The Fund invests at least 80% of its assets in A-shares of Chinese companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges. It may invest up to 15% of its net assets in warrants, structured investments or other derivative instruments (including options, financial futures contracts and various swap transactions, collectively, Strategic Transactions). In addition, the Fund may invest up to 20% of its assets in other types of investments, including B-shares, H-shares, shares of Red Chip companies, and shares of China-related companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Singapore Stock Exchange and other exchanges, and assets that may or may not be China related, including shares of open and closed-end investment companies, Strategic Transactions, common stocks, bonds, convertible securities, money market, and other short-term debt securities and cash equivalents.
The Fund invests in various industries, including airlines, chemicals, commercial banks, independent power producers and energy traders, machinery, metals and mining, real estate, transportation infrastructure, insurance, water utilities and diversified financial services. The Fund’s investment advisor and administrator is Morgan Stanley Investment Management Inc. Morgan Stanley Investment Management Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley, serves as the sub-advisor of the Fund.
