Cadiz Inc., incorporated on April 27, 1992, is a land and water resource development company with approximately 45,000 acres of land in three areas of eastern San Bernardino County, California. The Company's primary business is to acquire and develop land with water resources for various uses, including groundwater supply, groundwater storage and agriculture. The Company is focused on the development of the Cadiz Valley Water Conservation, Recovery and Storage Project (Water Project or Project), which captures and conserves millions of acre-feet of native groundwater being lost to evaporation from the aquifer system beneath its approximately 34,000-acre property in the Cadiz and Fenner valleys of eastern San Bernardino County (the Cadiz/Fenner Property), and deliver it to water providers throughout Southern California. Its development activities include water resource and agricultural development at its San Bernardino County properties.
The Company owns approximately 34,000 acres of land and the subsurface strata, inclusive of the unsaturated soils and appurtenant water rights in the Cadiz and Fenner valleys of eastern San Bernardino County (the Cadiz/Fenner property). This area is located approximately 30 miles north of the Colorado River Aqueduct (CRA). The aquifer system underlying this property is naturally recharged by precipitation (both rain and snow) within a watershed of approximately 1,300 square miles. It holds ownership rights to approximately 100 miles existing idle natural gas pipeline from the Cadiz/Fenner Property to Barstow, California. In addition to the Cadiz/Fenner Valley property, it also owns approximately 11,000 additional acres in the eastern Mojave Desert portion of San Bernardino County, California at two separate properties.
The Company's first property of San Bernardino County consists of approximately 9,000 acres in the Piute Valley. This landholding is located approximately 10 miles from the resort community of Laughlin, Nevada, and over 10 miles from the Colorado River town of Needles, California. The aquifer system underlying this property is naturally recharged by precipitation (both rain and snow) within a watershed of approximately 970 square miles. The Company owns approximately 2,000 acres near Danby Dry Lake in Ward Valley, approximately 30 miles southeast of its Cadiz/Fenner landholdings. The Danby Dry Lake property is located approximately 10 miles north of the CRA.
