CNA Financial Corporation (CNAF), incorporated in 1967, is an insurance holding company. The Company’s property and casualty insurance operations are conducted by Continental Casualty Company (CCC) and The Continental Insurance Company (CIC). CNAF’s core businesses serve a variety of customers, including small, medium and large businesses, associations, professionals, and groups with a range of insurance and risk management products and services. The Company’s core business, commercial property and casualty insurance operations, is reported in two business segments: Standard Lines and Specialty Lines. Its non-core operations are managed in two business segments: Life & Group Non-Core and Corporate & Other Non-Core. Loews Corporation (Loews) owned approximately 90% of the Company’s outstanding common stock as of December 31, 2008.

Standard Lines includes standard property and casualty coverages sold to small businesses and middle market entities and organizations in the United States primarily through an independent agency distribution system. Standard Lines also includes commercial insurance and risk management products sold to large corporations in the United States primarily through insurance brokers. Specialty Lines provides a range of professional, financial and specialty property and casualty products and services, including excess and surplus lines, primarily through insurance brokers and managing general underwriters. Specialty Lines also includes insurance coverages sold globally through its foreign operations (CNA Global).

CNAF’s property and casualty field structure consists of 32 branch locations across the country organized into 2 territories. The Centralized Processing Operation for small and middle-market customers, located in Maitland, Florida, handles policy processing, billing and collection activities, and also acts as a call center to optimize customer service. The claims structure consists of a centralized claim center designed to handle property damage and medical only claims and 14 claim office locations around the country handling complex claims.
