Encision Inc. (Encision), incorporated on February 1, 1991, is a medical device company. The Company designs, develops, manufactures and markets surgical instruments that provide safety to patients undergoing minimally-invasive surgery. Its Active Electrode Monitoring (AEM) technology provides surgeons with the desired tissue effects of cutting and coagulating tissue in laparoscopic procedures, while preventing stray electrosurgical energy that can cause complications and even death. Its shielded and monitored instruments enable surgeons to perform electrosurgical procedures. The Company has developed and launched AEM Surgical Instruments for laparoscopic surgical procedures. The Company also engages in various manufacturing and assembly activities at its leased facility in Boulder, Colorado. These operations include disposable scissor inserts manufacturing and assembly of its AEM Instrument system, as well as fabrication, assembly and test operations for instruments, monitors and accessories.
The Company produces and markets a line of AEM Instruments, which are shielded and monitored to prevent stray electrosurgical burns from insulation failure and capacitive coupling. Its product line includes a range of articulating instruments (scissors, graspers and dissectors), fixed-tip electrodes and suction-irrigation electrodes. These AEM Instruments are available in an array of reusable and disposable options. Additionally, it has a line of handles that are used for advanced laparoscopic procedures that incorporate stiffer shafts and ergonomic features. It markets an AEM monitor product line that is used in conjunction with AEM Instruments. The Company's EndoShield integrates its AEM technology into a disposable cord and eliminates the need for a separate AEM monitor.
The primary form of electro surgery, mono polar electro surgery, is a tool for general surgeons across the world. The AEM system consists of shielded five millimeter AEM Instruments and an AEM monitor. The AEM Instruments are designed to function identically to the five millimeter instruments. The Company's line of laparoscopic instruments has the integrated AEM design and includes the range of instruments that are common in laparoscopic surgery.
The Company competes with Medtronic plc, Johnson & Johnson, Olympus Corporation and Lumenis.
