GNC Holdings, Inc., incorporated on February 5, 2007, is a specialty retailer of health, wellness and performance products, including vitamins, minerals and herbal supplement products (VMHS), sports nutrition products and diet products. The Company's operations consist of purchasing raw materials, formulating and manufacturing products and selling the finished products. The Company operates in three segments: Retail, Franchising and Manufacturing/Wholesale. The Company's brands include Mega Men, Ultra Mega, Total Lean, Pro Performance and Pro Performance AMP, Beyond Raw, GNC Puredge, GNC GenetixHD and Herbal Plus. The Company operates its primary manufacturing facilities in South Carolina and distribution centers in Arizona, Indiana, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. The Company manufactures its branded products and also merchandises various third-party products.
The Company-owned retail store operations are located in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Ireland. The Company offers its products on the Internet through GNC.com, LuckyVitamin.com and www.drugstore.com. Its retail sales offers a mix of brands, including over 2,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) across multiple categories and products. It sells vitamins and minerals in single vitamin and multi vitamin form and in various potency levels. Its vitamin and mineral products are available in liquid, tablets, soft gelatin, hard-shell capsules, chewables and powder forms, and are available in traditional bottle packaging form or in customized daily packet form (Vitapak). Many of its special vitamin and mineral formulations, such as Mega Men, Ultra Mega and Triple Strength Fish Oil are available at its locations, select wholesale partner locations, and on GNC.com. In addition to its selection of VMHS products with formulations, it also offers a range of alphabet vitamins. It offers herbal supplements under a single umbrella brand, Herbal Plus. In addition to the Herbal Plus line, it offers a full line of whole-food-based supplements and herb and natural remedy products. It also offers a range of specialty products in its GNC and Preventive Nutrition product lines.
The Company offers a selection of sports nutrition products, such as protein and weight gain powders, sports drinks, sports bars and high potency vitamin formulations, including GNC brands, such as Pro Performance, Pro Performance AMP and Beyond Raw. It offers a range of diet products, including pills, meal replacements, shakes, diet bars, energy tablets and cleansing products. Its other wellness products category consists of sales of its Gold Card preferred membership and sales of other non-supplement products, including cosmetics, food items, health management products, books, digital versatile discs (DVDs) and equipment. Products are delivered to its retail stores through the Company's distribution centers located in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania; Whitestown, Indiana; Anderson, South Carolina, and Phoenix, Arizona.
The Company's Retail segment includes sales of products to customers at its company-owned stores in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Ireland and through its Websites, GNC.com and LuckyVitamin.com. The Company operates approximately 3,600 company-owned stores across all 50 states and the District of Columbia in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Ireland.
The Company's Franchise segment consists of its domestic and international franchise operations. The Company has approximately 3,170 franchise stores, including approximately 1,080 stores operating in the United States and approximately 2,085 international franchise stores operating in over 50 international countries. The Company sells some international franchisees on the Internet and distributes to other retail outlets in their respective countries. It has approximately 530 franchisees operating stores in the United States. The Company's franchise stores in the United States offer both its products and third-party products.
The Company's Manufacturing/Wholesale segment consists of its manufacturing operations in South Carolina and its wholesale sales business. This segment supplies its Retail and Franchise segments, as well as various third-parties with finished products. The Company's wholesale operations are supported primarily by its Anderson, South Carolina distribution center. Its manufacturing and warehousing facilities provide finished products to its Retail and Franchise segments. It operates approximately two main manufacturing facilities in the United States, which are located in Greenville, South Carolina and Anderson, South Carolina.
