LATAM Airlines Group S.A., incorporated on August 20, 1985, is a Chile-based air transport company. The Company's principal business is passenger and cargo air transportation, both in the domestic markets of Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil and in a developed series of regional and international routes in America, Europe and Oceania. These businesses are performed directly or through its subsidiaries in different countries. In addition, the Company has subsidiaries operating in the freight business in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia. The Company operates through two segments: the air transportation business, and the coalition and loyalty program Multiplus. The Company's Air transport segment corresponds to the route network for air transport. The Company's segment of loyalty coalition called Multiplus is a frequent flyer programs, which operate as a unilateral system of loyalty that offers a flexible coalition system. As of December 31, 2016, the Company operated a fleet of over 329 aircraft. The Company's passenger aircraft include Airbus A319-100, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A321-200, Airbus A320-200neo, Airbus A350-900, Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 787-8, Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 777-300ER. The Company operates narrow body, wide body and freighter aircraft.
As of December 31, 2017, the Company served over 27 international destinations in over 18 countries. The Company's passenger operations include both regional flights in South America and the Caribbean and long haul flights connecting the region with the rest of the world. Its Cargo division operates internationally and domestically through its affiliates under the unified LATAM Cargo brand. As of December 31, 2016, it included approximately 138 destinations, of which approximately 127 were served by passenger and/or freighter aircraft and approximately 11 were served only by freighter aircraft.
LATAM Pass members earn LATAM Pass kilometers in their accounts based on distance flown, class of ticket purchased and their status level, as well as by purchasing the services of other partners in the LATAM Pass program. Its customers can redeem kilometers for free tickets, as well as for other products in an online catalogue. Its passengers were grouped into four elite levels based on their flying behavior: Gold, Platinum, Black and Black Signature, as of December 31, 2016. LATAM Fidelidade is a loyalty program, which imposes no restrictions on flight availability or on the number of seats available when members redeem accumulated points.
The Company's maintenance base is located at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport. The facility contained the Company's aircraft hangar, warehouses, workshops and offices, as well as aircraft parking area capable of accommodating approximately 17 short-haul aircrafts, as of December 31, 2016. The Company's facilities in Miami included corporate building of 380,000 square meters, a cargo warehouse (including meter cooling area of over 116,670 square meters) and aircraft-parking platform of over 783,000 square meters, as of December 31, 2016. The Company owns a flight-training center on the side of the Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport.
