National Grid plc, incorporated on July 11, 2000, is a United Kingdom-based electricity and gas utility company. The Company's segments include UK Electricity Transmission, UK Gas Transmission, UK Gas Distribution and US Regulated. The Company offers services, such as gas distribution connections, gas transmission connections, metering, electricity transmission connections, land and development services, balancing services, liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage services, charging services, commercial engineering services (CES), interconnectors, property and pipelines maintenance services. The Company owns electricity transmission system in England and Wales. The Company owns and operates four of the eight regional gas distribution networks in Great Britain.
The Company's other activities relate to non-regulated businesses and other commercial operations. The other activities include the Great Britain-France electricity interconnector, the United Kingdom-based gas metering activities; the United Kingdom property management activities; the United Kingdom LNG import terminal; the United States LNG operations, and the United States unregulated transmission pipelines, together with corporate activities.
UK Electricity Transmission
The Company owns and maintains high voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. The Company's networks consists of approximately 7,200 kilometers (4,470 miles) of overhead line, 1,500 kilometers (932 miles) of underground cable and 336 substations.
UK Gas Transmission
The Company owns and operates the gas national transmission system in Great Britain. The Company's network consists of approximately 7,660 kilometers (4,760 miles) of high pressure pipe and 24 compressor stations.
UK Gas Distribution
The Company owns and operates four gas distribution networks consisting approximately 131,000 kilometers (82,000 miles) of pipeline. The Company transports gas from the national transmission system to around 10.9 million consumers on behalf of 37 shippers.
The US Regulated business includes gas distribution networks, electricity distribution networks and high voltage electricity transmission networks in New York and New England and electricity generation facilities in New York. The Company jointly owns and operates transmission facilities across upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. The Company owns and operates electricity distribution networks in upstate New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The Company owns and operates gas distribution networks across the northeastern United States located in upstate New York, New York City, Long Island, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
