Spirit Airlines, Inc. (Spirit), incorporated on March 8, 1994, is an airline company. The Company's all-Airbus fleet, as of December 31, 2012, operated approximately 200 daily flights to over 50 destinations in the United States, Caribbean and Latin America. As of December 31, 2012, its route network included 110 markets served by 52 airports throughout North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. As of December 31, 2012, Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) remained its airport served, with over 20% of its capacity operating to or from FLL. The Company also sells mileage credits to companies participating in the FREE SPIRIT program.
During the year ended December 31, 2012, the Company operated international service to Aruba, the Bahamas, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and St. Maarten, as well as Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. The Company's Non-ticket revenues are generated from air travel-related services for baggage, bookings through the Company’s call center or third-party vendors, advance seat selection, itinerary changes and loyalty programs. The Company’s other revenues consists of services not directly related to providing transportation, such as its FREE SPIRIT affinity credit card program and the sale of advertising to third parties on its Website and on board its aircraft.
As of December 31, 2011, the Company sold its product through three primary distribution channels: its Website, its call center, and third parties, such as travel agents who access it through the global distribution system (GDS) companies and select online travel agents (OTAs). The Company flies only Airbus A320 family aircraft. As of December 31, 2012, the Company had a fleet of 45 Airbus single-aisle aircraft, consisting of 27 A319s, 16 A320s and two A321s, and the average age of the fleet was 4.6 years. The Company's A319s accommodate 145 passengers, A320s accommodate 178 passengers and A321s accommodate 218 passengers.
The Company competes with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways.
