SandRidge Energy, Inc. is an independent natural gas and oil company concentrating on exploration, development and production activities. The Company is focused on the exploration and exploitation of its holdings in the West Texas Overthrust (WTO), a natural gas prone geological region. The Company owns related gas gathering and treating facilities, a gas marketing business and an oil field services business, including its drilling rig business, Lariat Services, Inc.
Exploration and Production
The Company develops and produces natural gas and oil reserves, with a focus on increasing its reserves and production in the WTO. It has operated leasehold positions in the Cotton Valley Trend in East Texas, the Gulf Coast area and the Mid-Continent, as well as other non-core operating areas. The Company developed multi-year seismic program and acquired 1,500 square miles of modern 3-D seismic data in the WTO. The Pinon Field, located in Pecos County is producing field, accounting for 62.2% of its reserve base during the year ended December 31, 2008. In the West Texas Overthrust, the Company has five exploration areas: Allison Ranch, South Sabino, Thistle, Big Canyon and McKay Creek. During 2008, the Company owned natural gas and oil interests in 60,059 acres in the Gulf Coast area. It also owns properties in Oklahoma, Arkansas, southern Kansas, Texas and Louisiana.
Drilling and Oil Field Services
The Company provides drilling and related oil field services to its exploration and production business and to third parties in West Texas. It conducts drilling operations through its subsidiary, Lariat. It also drills wells for other natural gas and oil companies, located in the West Texas region. During 2008, its drilling rig fleet consisted of 39 operational rigs, 28 of which it owned directly. The oil field services business compliments drilling operations. These services include providing drilling rigs, pulling units, trucking, rental tools, location and road construction and roustabout services.
Other Operations
The Company’s CO2 capturing operations are conducted through SandRidge CO2. During 2008, SandRidge CO2 owned 231 miles of CO2 pipelines in West Texas with approximately 88,000 horsepower of owned and leased CO2 compression. The captured CO2 is primarily used and sequestered in tertiary oil recovery operations.
