Vimicro International Corporation (Vimicro), incorporated in February 2004, is a multimedia semi-conductor and solution provider. The Company designs, develops and markets mixed-signal semiconductor products and system-level solutions that enable multimedia capabilities in a variety of products for the consumer electronics, communications and surveillance markets. It also designs, manufactures and sells security and surveillance products and develop security and surveillance software in China. Vimicro provides the customers with system-level solutions that include integrated semiconductors, customizable firmware and software, software development tools, reference designs and applications support. The Company has designed its solutions to support a range of standards, baseband platforms and components in order to facilitate its customer’s designs, assembly and supply chain management processes.
PC and Embedded Notebook Camera Multimedia
Vimicro designs different models of personal computer (PC) and embedded notebook camera multi-media processors based on the same technology platform with modifications in models. It’s PC and embedded notebook camera multimedia processors are compatible with sensors that are based on complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, the primary type of technology for sensors. All of the PC and embedded notebook camera multimedia processors are single-chip processors manufactured under Vimicro’s own brand name using its intellectual property. It also develops and sells a range of basic, complementary semiconductor products in order to provide more solutions for its customers. The Company’s PC and embedded notebook camera multimedia processors developed include VC0338, VC0347, VC0345, VC0361, VC0343, VC0342, VC0341, VC0301HUVC, VC0334, VC0333, VC0336, VC0301V, VC0332, VC0331, ZS0211, VC0326, VC0325 and VC0323.
Mobile Phone Multimedia
Vimicro’s mobile phone multimedia processors are specifically designed to address the need for quality, low-power and cost-effective solutions for embedded cameras and video and audio functions in mobile phones. All of the Company’s mobile phone multimedia processors are sold under its own brand name. The Company developed and shipped various mobile phone multimedia processors, including VC0598, VC0836, VC0898, VC0988, VC0578, VC0988, Vinno III, VC0978, VC0548, VC0528, Vinno II and Vinno I.
Security and Surveillance
The Company has introduced surveillance products, including digital surveillance cameras, surveillance system and management software, network cameras, network speed domes, digital video encoders, recorders and servers and software applications. The Company’s video recorder products include SVR 3300, NVR 2100, SVR 3100, NVR 2200, VS-IPC6052, ViSS R3.0 and VISS R2.10.
Vimicro orders image sensors based on the specifications from third-party sensor manufacturers and bundle them together with its mixed-signal PC and embedded notebook camera multimedia processors. It provides multimedia signal processing products that exceed the quality levels required by multiple key industry standards. Its core technologies include Multimedia SoC Design and Video, Imaging, Audio and Graphic Technologies, Analog and Digital Integration, Embedded DSP and Multimedia Signal Processing Algorithms , Design Methodology, Scene-based Image Processing Technology, Core Chip Technology, Key technology in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and Video Management Software Technology. It supplies the range of products with digital, networking, intelligentization and high-definition features, such as front-end IP Camera, back-end NVR, D1 and 1080P high-definition products.
The Company possesses a portfolio of video technologies to support industry standards and compression technologies, such as JPEG, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVS and H.264. In addition, it has developed a variety of technologies to provide video quality and differentiated features, including interlaced to progressive and progressive to interlaced, audio video synchronization, noise reduction, resolution enhancement, sample rate conversion, scaling, auto focus, face tracking algorithms and signal reconstruction. It has developed a number of image processing algorithm technologies to provide quality imaging capabilities in its products. Such technologies include color interpolation, color space conversion and correction, white balance, noise reduction, auto exposure, focus control, resolution enhancement, signal quality enhancement, contrast enhancement and dead pixel detection and correction technologies.
The Company has developed a portfolio of audio technologies to support industry standards and compression technologies, such as musical instrument digital interface (MIDI), moving picture experts group layer-3 Audio (MP3), windows media audio (WMA), advanced audio coding (AAC), adaptive multi rate (AMR) and its versatile multimedia data (VMD). Its analog and power management circuits include analog-to-digital converter (ADC), design automation conference (DAC), power supply management, power amplification radio frequency (RF) transceiver and high speed bus physical interfaces. The processor can be modified by software commands to reconfigure it in an optimal manner for the processing of different types of tasks, such as audio, video, imaging and graphics processing. It design methodologies in algorithms, software and hardware co-design enables integration of multimedia signal processing algorithms with mixed-signal design to ensure that its algorithms are optimized for silicon implementation and yield manufacturing. It has developed a methodology based on software simulation, hardware simulation, single and multi-FPGA emulation, software-hardware co-simulation, processor based software-hardware co-emulation and digital and analog co-simulation. In addition, it has developed multimedia mixed-signal development platforms for system-level integration at the customer site.
The Company has launched a scene-based, high-fidelity image processing technology for the surveillance market. This new technology has been adopted by the Chinese National Standard for Technical Specification of Surveillance Video and Audio Coding (SVAC). It offers video management software, including a carrier-grade ViSS security platform that offers centralized management of users, configurations and video monitoring, customized versions for various industries and diversified 3rd generation (3G) terminal applications. Its video management software adopts Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which is used in China telecom operator networks.
