Zygo Corporation (Zygo), incorporated on June 10, 1970, designs, develops, and manufactures ultra-high precision measurement solutions. The Company operates in two segments: Metrology Solutions Division and Optical Systems Division. Its Metrology Solutions Division manufactures products for technology companies. Its Optical Systems Division provides product development and manufacturing services for, defense, semiconductor, laser fusion research, life-sciences, and other industrial markets. The Metrology Solutions Division has manufacturing locations in Middlefield, Connecticut; Montreal Canada, and Shanghai, China. The Optical Systems Division has manufacturing locations in Middlefield, Connecticut; Tucson, Arizona; and Costa Mesa, California. In August 2012, the Company formed a new subsidiary in Taiwan.
Metrology Solutions Division
The Company’s Metrology Solutions Division includes three diamension (3D) surface metrology products, precision positioning systems and custom engineered solutions. It offers a range of metrology products and solutions to address requirements of precision manufacturing industries and research. Its systems are used to measure surface characteristics and parameters, including topography and roughness, shape, dimensions, thickness, optical characteristics and defects. Zygo metrology products provide precise measurements for quality control, process feedback and machine control. Its applications exist in a range of markets, including the automotive, consumer electronics, medical, aerospace, military, materials research, optics, flat panel displays, and semiconductor industries. The Metrology Solutions segment markets products under the Zygo and Zemetrics brand names. Products under the Zygo brand include New View and VeriFire family of products. Products under the Zemetrics brand include the ZeGage and ZeScope family of products.
The Company’s VeriFire Asphere laser interferometer family, the QPZ, was developed to bring high precision large aperture metrology to the production floor. Its ZeGage-2D-3D optical profiler family is designed to provide non-contact nanometer-level surface height measurements without requiring additional vibration isolation. The ZeGage provides capabilities designed for the industrial market segment using a combination of scanning white light interferometry and patent pending scanning methods to provide performance that is positioned against contact stylus instruments used in the industrial machine tool market.
The Company competes with Bruker Corporation, Ametek, Agilent, KLA-Tencor and 4D Technology.
Optical Systems Division
The Company’s Optical Systems segment designs, develops and manufactures high precision optical components and electro-optical systems used in the semiconductor, defense, life-sciences and research markets. Its products include aspheric lenses, mirrors, objective assemblies, machined glass structures and windows used in applications ranging from semiconductor lithography to ophthalmic surgical devices to aerial reconnaissance. The Company provides products used across a range including extreme ultra-violet (EUV), visible and mid-infrared that are fabricated from materials such as fused silica, sapphire, silicon, calcium fluoride and precision optical glasses.
The Company competes with L-3 Tinsley, Exotic Electro-Optics, Sagem, JenOptik and Berliner Glas.
