Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (A&B), incorporated in 1900, is a real estate and agriculture company with interests in real estate development, commercial real estate and agriculture. The Company’s agribusiness and related operations consist of a sugar plantation on the island of Maui, operated by its Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (HC&S) division; renewable energy operations on the island of Kauai, operated by its McBryde Resources, Inc. (McBryde) subsidiary; its Kahului Trucking & Storage, Inc. (KT&S) and Kauai Commercial Company, Incorporated (KCC) subsidiaries, which provide several types of trucking services, including sugar and molasses hauling on Maui, mobile equipment maintenance and repair services on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island, and self-service storage facilities on Maui and Kauai, and Hawaiian Sugar & Transportation Cooperative (HS&TC), an agricultural cooperative that provides raw sugar marketing and transportation services solely to HC&S. The Company owns approximately 87,240 acres in Hawaii. It has a diverse portfolio of real estate development projects throughout Hawaii, and a commercial property portfolio consisting of nearly eight million square feet of leasable space in Hawaii and on the United Sates Mainland. Both HC&S and McBryde Resources, Inc. produce electricity from renewable energy. In May 2013, the Company's subsidiary, A&B Properties, Inc., acquired Napili Plaza. In September 2013, A&B Properties, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company announced that it has acquired a portfolio of 31 properties from Japanese real estate investor Genshiro Kawamoto. In October 2013, Alexander & Baldwin Inc merged with Grace Pacific Corp.
A&B Properties, Inc., the Company’s subsidiary, is a diversified real estate company engaged in land stewardship, planning, entitlement, development and management of commercial properties, and real estate development. A&B’s leasing segment owns, operates and manages commercial properties in Hawaii and eight states on the United Sates Mainland. It focuses on the acquisition of retail, office and industrial properties. In addition to its agricultural operations, the Company owns considerable watershed or conservation lands.
The Company cultivates sugar on the island of Maui. In addition, it owns a number of related service companies to support its sugar operation. Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (HC&S) cultivates sugarcane on 36,000 acres in Central Maui, producing raw and specialty sugars and molasses. HC&S’ specialty sugar products are marketed worldwide under the Maui Brand name. In addition to its sugar production, HC&S is an energy producer. Much of the power that HC&S generates is from renewable sources-hydropower and the burning of bagasse. Maui Brand sugars comes in two styles: Natural White and Premium Maui Gold.
McBryde Resources, Inc. provides infrastructure and services to support active agriculture on 4,000 acres of A&B owned lands on Kauai, including the generation of renewable energy from its hydroelectric facilities in Kalaheo and Wainiha, Kauai. Kauai Commercial Company is a general freight and construction services company. Kauai Commercial Company also offers warehousing and moving services to residents throughout Kauai. Kahului Trucking & Storage, Inc. is engaged in transporting goods and materials. The Company offers service container freight and dump trucking service, self-storage, truck and equipment sales and rentals, and a truck service and parts center.
