Autoliv, Inc., incorporated on October 1, 1996, is a developer, manufacturer and supplier to the automotive industry of automotive safety systems with a range of product offerings, including passive safety systems and active safety systems. The Company operates through two segments: Passive Safety and Electronics. Passive Safety segment includes airbags, seatbelts and steering wheels. Electronics segment includes active safety products, such as camera-based vision systems, night driving assist, automotive radars, brake controls and other active safety systems, and passive safety electronic products, such as restraint electronics and crash sensors. Passive safety systems are primarily meant to improve vehicle safety, and include modules and components for passenger and driver-side airbags, side-impact airbag protection systems, seatbelts, steering wheels, inflator technologies, whiplash protection systems and child seats, and components for such systems passive safety electronic products, such as restraint electronics and crash sensors. Active safety systems are designed to make driving easier and comfortable and to intervene before a collision in order to make accidents avoidable or reduce the impact.
Including joint venture operations, the Company has approximately 80 production facilities in over 30 countries, consisting of both component factories and assembly factories. Its customers include car manufacturers. The component factories manufacture inflators, gas generants, initiators, textile cushions, Webbing materials, electronics, pressed steel parts, springs and over molded steel parts used in seatbelt and airbag assembly, steering wheels and its active safety, vision and night vision systems and its other safety electronic systems. The assembly factories source components from a number of parties, including the Company's own component factories, and assemble complete restraint systems for just-in-time delivery to customers.
