Antofagasta plc (Antofagasta) is a Chile-based copper mining group with interests in transport and water distribution. The Company is a holding company that operates through its subsidiaries. The principal activities of the Company are copper mining (including exploration and development), the transportation of freight by rail and road and the distribution of water. Its activities are mainly concentrated in Chile where it owns and operates three copper mines with a total production, during the year ended December 31, 2008, of 477,700 tons of copper in cathode and concentrate and 7,800 tons of molybdenum in concentrate. It has three principal divisions: mining, transport and water. Antofagasta also has exploration or feasibility programs in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
