Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (Anadarko), incorporated on June 12, 1985, is an independent exploration and production company. The Company is engaged in developing, acquiring, and exploring for oil and natural-gas resources. The Company's segments include Oil and Gas Exploration & Production; Midstream, and Marketing. The Oil and Gas Exploration & Production segment explores for and produces oil, condensate, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs), and focuses on the development and operation of the Company's liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Mozambique. The Midstream segment engages in gathering, processing, treating and transporting Anadarko and third-party oil, natural-gas and NGLs production. The Marketing segment sells Anadarko's oil, natural-gas and NGLs production, as well as third-party purchased volumes. The Company has approximately 2.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) of proved reserves.
The United States
The Company's operations in the United States include oil and natural-gas exploration and production in approximately 50 onshore Lower states, deepwater Gulf of Mexico and onshore Alaska. Anadarko's Rocky Mountains Region (Rockies) properties include oil and natural-gas plays located in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, where the Company operates approximately 11,000 wells and owns interests in approximately 4,000 non-operated wells. The Company also holds mineral rights under approximately eight million acres that pass through Colorado and Wyoming and into Utah. Anadarko operates approximately 5,000 vertical wells and over 1,000 horizontal wells in the Wattenberg field. The field contains the Niobrara and Codell formations. Its tight-gas assets include the Greater Natural Buttes area in eastern Utah. The Company controls over 325,000 acres of deep mineral rights within the Powder River basin. Anadarko holds ownership in over 100,000 mineral-interest acres in Laramie County, a liquids-rich play in the northern DJ basin in Wyoming. Anadarko operates over 1,400 wells in the Wamsutter and Moxa fields in the Greater Green River Basin.
Anadarko's Southern and Appalachia Region properties are primarily located in Texas, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Kansas. The region includes the Eagleford shale in South Texas, the Delaware basin in West Texas, the Marcellus shale in north-central Pennsylvania, and the Haynesville shale in East Texas and Northern Louisiana. Anadarko holds interests in over 600,000 gross acres in the Delaware basin. The Eagleford shale development in South Texas consists of approximately 346,000 gross acres and over 1,300 producing wells. Anadarko holds over 156,000 gross acres in the Eaglebine shale in Southeast Texas. Anadarko holds over 223,000 gross acres in East Texas/North Louisiana. The Company holds approximately 625,000 gross acres in the Marcellus shale of the Appalachian basin. Anadarko holds interests in approximately 280 blocks in the Gulf of Mexico. The Company operates over eight active floating platforms and holds interests in approximately 30 fields. Anadarko's non-operated oil production and development activity in Alaska is concentrated on the North Slope.
Anadarko's international operations include oil, natural-gas and NGLs production and development in Algeria and Ghana, along with activities in Mozambique. The Company also has exploration acreage in Colombia, Cote d'Ivoire, Mozambique, New Zealand, Kenya and other countries. Anadarko is engaged in production and development operations in Algeria's Sahara Desert in Blocks 404 and 208. The Company produces oil through the Hassi Berkine South and Ourhoud central processing facilities (CPF) in Block 404, and oil, condensate and NGLs through the El Merk CPF in Block 208. Anadarko's production and development activities in Ghana are located offshore in the West Cape Three Points Block and the Deepwater Tano Block. In Mozambique, Anadarko operates Offshore Area 1, which totals approximately 1.2 million gross acres.
In Colombia, Anadarko controls the rights to explore or conduct technical evaluation activities on approximately nine blocks totaling approximately 20 million gross acres. In Cote d'Ivoire, Anadarko owns an operated working interest in approximately four offshore blocks totaling approximately one million gross acres. In New Zealand, Anadarko controls the rights to explore or conduct technical evaluation activities on over four blocks totaling approximately 40 million gross acres. In Kenya, Anadarko holds interests in over three offshore deepwater blocks, encompassing approximately 3.7 million gross acres. Anadarko holds exploration interests in approximately 300,000 gross acres in over two offshore blocks located in the Campos basin of Brazil. Anadarko also has exploration opportunities in other overseas areas, including Tunisia and South Africa.
