Arkema S.A., incorporated on December 17, 2002, is a chemical producer, which provides specialty chemicals and advanced materials. The Company manufactures a range of products for industries, including construction, packaging, chemical, automotive, electronics, food and pharmaceutical industries. The Company operates through three business segments: High Performance Materials, Industrial Specialties and Coating Solutions. The Company has approximately 140 production centers located in Europe, North America and Asia.
High Performance Materials
The Company's High Performance Materials segment consists of business lines, including Specialty Adhesives, Technical Polymers and Performance Additives. Specialty Adhesives business line includes adhesives and sealants used in industry, hygiene products (nonwoven), construction and consumer products. Technical Polymers business line includes specialty polyamides used in the automotive, aerospace, aeronautics, oil and gas and electronics industries, and consumer goods (sports and cosmetics), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for use in chemical engineering, paint and anti-corrosive coating production, oil and gas extraction, photovoltaic panels, lithium-ion batteries and water treatment membranes. Performance Additives business line includes activities, such as filtration and adsorption (CECA), which includes both specialty surfactants and products used for gas and liquid separation and for adsorption and filtration; organic peroxides, which are used as polymerization initiators for polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polystyrene and as crosslinking agents, and photocure resins (Sartomer), which harden under ultraviolet light and are used in metal, plastic and wood coatings and in optics, graphic art and electronics. Its organic peroxides business also includes glass coating additives.
The Company's Industrial Specialties segment consists of business lines, including polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), Thiochemicals, Fluorogases and Hydrogen Peroxide. The PMMA business line encompasses activities, including PMMA, which is for use in the construction and automotive industries, and for billboards, decorations, the production of sanitary ware, and liquid emitting diode (LED) televisions, and functional polyolefins, which are used in adhesives, packaging, photovoltaic, and the electric, electronics and automotive industries. Thiochemicals business line includes chemical intermediates for animal feed, petrochemicals and refining, natural gas odorization, polymerization agents, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. Fluorogases business line includes gases used in refrigeration, air-conditioning, foam and solvents, and as feedstock for fluoropolymers. Hydrogen Peroxide business line includes hydrogen peroxide for use in pulp and paper bleaching, water treatment, disinfection, electronics and textiles, and sodium chlorate.
The Coating Solutions segment consists of business lines, including Acrylics, and Coating Resins and Additives. The Acrylics business line includes resins and emulsions for applications, such as adhesives, paints and coatings, and water treatment. The Coating Resins and Additives business line includes coating resins, which consists of waterborne, solvent borne and powder resins for use in decorative paints; industrial coatings; inks, sealants, varnishes and dyes for use in wood, road paints, adhesives, construction materials and others, and impact modifiers and processing aids for PVC. The Coating Resins and Additives business line also includes rheology additives (Coatex), and specialty acrylic polymers used as rheology modifiers, such as dispersants and thickeners in paper, paints and industrial coatings.
