ARRIS International plc (ARRIS), incorporated on April 20, 2015, focuses on entertainment and communications technology. The Company operates in two segments: Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), and Network & Cloud (N&C). The Company enables service providers, including cable, telephone, and digital broadcast satellite operators, and media programmers to deliver media, voice and Internet Protocol (IP) data services to their subscribers. It is engaged in offering set-tops, digital video and IP television (IPTV) distribution systems, broadband access infrastructure platforms, and associated data and voice CPE, which it also sells directly to consumers through retail channels. Its solutions are complemented by an array of services, including technical support, repair and refurbishment, and system design and integration.
Customer Premises Equipment
The CPE segment's products include Set-Top, Gateway, digital subscriber line (DSL) and Cable Modem, and Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (E-MTA) and Voice/Data Modem. The Set-Top is a device installed at the subscriber's television set and connects to the service provider network to decode digital video signals and render them as video on the television set. Gateway is a device that connects to the service provider network and delivers video, voice and data services throughout the subscriber's home. DSL and Cable Modem is a device located at the subscriber's home that connects to the cable or telecommunication network to receive and transmit digital information between subscriber-owned devices and the service provider's headend or central office, providing Internet connectivity. E-MTA and Voice/Data Modem also provide both data and telephone service from the service provider throughout the home.
Network & Cloud
The N&C segment includes various products, such as Infrastructure Products, Global Services and Cloud Solutions. The Company's Infrastructure Products include Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS)/Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP), Video Infrastructure, and Access and Transport. CMTS is cable operator headend equipment that communicates with cable modems to control the flow of data, allocates shared bandwidth, and prioritizes and routes traffic. The CCAP combines the functionality of a CMTS and an Edge Quadrature Amplitude Modulator (QAM) to enable voice, video and data in a converged IP network.
ARRIS' Video Infrastructure products include Multichannel Video Programming Distributors (MVPD) and Programmer Equipment that process and package video content for delivery over the service provider network to be received by a set-top or gateway, and includes encoding, compression, transcoding, storage, policy management, security and encryption, and signal modulation for hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC), DSL and/or fiber networks. The Video Infrastructure products also include Ad Insertion Technologies supporting linear and on demand advertisement placement and substitution in moving picture experts group (MPEG) and IP delivery environments. The Access and Transport category of products includes equipment in the ground or on transmission poles between service providers' headend and subscribers' premises, as well as equipment used to initiate the distribution of content-carrying signals. The Access and Transport category includes optical transmission equipment, Fiber Nodes, radio frequency (RF) Amplifiers and metro wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) products.
ARRIS' Global Services include technical support, professional services and systems integration capabilities. The Company's Cloud Solutions include software products that enable providers to deliver user experiences, multiscreen recommendations, offer management and advertising services; network management products that collect various amounts of information from the broadband network and apply analytics to diagnose faults, and workforce management solutions enabling service providers to manage and dispatch field technicians. It also includes network surveillance and issue correlation software and services.
