Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. (BBVA), incorporated on January 28, 2000, is a diversified international financial company engaged in retail banking, asset management, private banking and wholesale banking. The Company also has investments in various companies in Spain. The Company operates through seven segments: Banking Activity in Spain, Real Estate Activity in Spain, Turkey, Rest of Eurasia, Mexico, South America and United States. In addition to these, the Company has a Corporate Center.
Banking Activity in Spain
The Banking Activity in Spain segment includes all of its banking and non-banking businesses in Spain, other than those included in the Corporate Center area and Real Estate Activity in Spain. The main business units under the Banking Activity in Spain segment include Spanish Retail Network, Corporate and Business Banking (CBB), Corporate and Investment Banking (C&IB), and other units. Spanish Retail Network includes individual customers, private banking, small companies and businesses in the domestic market. CBB manages small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), companies and corporations, public institutions and developer segments. C&IB includes corporations and multinational groups, and the trading floor and distribution business in Spain. Other units include the insurance business unit in Spain (BBVA Seguros), and the Asset Management unit, which manages Spanish mutual funds and pension funds. In addition, Banking Activity in Spain includes certain loans and advances portfolios, finance and structural euro balance sheet positions. Loans and advances to customers of the Banking Activity in Spain segment amount to approximately 192,068 million Euros. Customer deposits amount to approximately 185,314 million Euros. Mutual funds amount to approximately 33,670 million Euros.
Real Estate Activity in Spain
The Real Estate Activity in Spain segment provides management of the real estate assets. The segment includes primarily lending to real estate developers and foreclosed real estate assets. The number of real estate assets the Company sells amounts to approximately 21,082 units.
The Turkey segment represents its stake in the Turkish bank Turkiye Garanti Bankasi A.S. (Garanti). Loans and advances to customers in the Turkey segment amount to approximately 57,768 million Euros. Customer deposits amount to approximately 47,148 million Euros. Mutual funds amount to approximately 1,243 million Euros. Pension funds amount to approximately 2,378 million Euros.
Rest of Eurasia
The Rest of Eurasia segment includes the retail and wholesale banking businesses of the Company in Europe (primarily Portugal) and Asia, excluding Spain and Turkey. Loans and advances to customers in the Rest of Eurasia segment amount to approximately 16,143 million Euros. Customer deposits amount to approximately 15,210 million Euros. Pension funds amount to approximately 331 million Euros.
The Mexico segment consists of the banking and insurance businesses conducted in Mexico by the BBVA Bancomer financial group. Loans and advances to customers in the Mexico segment amount to approximately 49,048 million Euros. Customer deposits amount to approximately 49,539 million Euros. Mutual funds amount to approximately 17,894 million Euros.
The South America segment manages the Company's banking and insurance businesses in the South America region. The business units under the America segment are Retail and Corporate Banking, which includes banks in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, and Insurance businesses, which include insurance businesses in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela. Loans and advances to customers in the South America segment amount to approximately 44,970 million Euros. Customer deposits amount to approximately 41,998 million Euros. Mutual funds amount to approximately 3,793 million Euros. Pension funds amount to approximately 5,936 million Euros.
The United States segment includes its business in the United States. The United States segment also covers the assets and liabilities of the Company's office in New York, which is engaged in transactions with large corporations. Loans and advances to customers in the United States segment amount to approximately 60,599 million Euros. Customer deposits amount to approximately 63,715 million Euros.
The Company competes with the Banco Santander Group, Bankia, Caixabank, Banco Popular and Banco Sabadell.
