Michael Baker Corporation, incorporated in 1946, through its operating subsidiaries, is engaged in providing engineering services for public and private sector clients worldwide. The Company's business is principally in the United States of America. The Company's operates in two segments: Transportation and Federal. The Transportation segment provides services for surface transportation, aviation and rail and transit markets. The Company’s Federal segment provides services for defense, environmental, architecture, geospatial information technology, homeland security, municipal and civil, oil and gas, telecom and utilities, and water markets. The Company has designed a range of projects, such as highways, bridges, airports, bus ways, corporate headquarters, data centers and educational facilities. The Company also provides services in the water/wastewater, pipeline, emergency and consequence management, resource management and telecommunications markets. The Company also partners with construction contractors to pursue selected design-build contracts.

Transportation

The Transportation segment provides services for Surface Transportation, Aviation and Rail & Transit markets. Among the services the Company provides to clients in these markets are project and program management, design-build (for which the Company only provide the design portion of services), construction management and inspection, consulting, planning, surveying, mapping, geographic information systems, architectural, interior design, site planning and design, constructability reviews, site assessment and restoration, strategic regulatory analysis and compliance. The Company has a range of products, such as highways, bridges, airports, bus ways, corporate headquarters, data centers and educational facilities. The Company also provides services in the water/wastewater, pipeline, emergency and consequence management, resource management, and telecommunications markets.

Federal

The Federal segment services in architecture market includes building information modeling (BIM), computer aided facility management, condition assessments, electrical and mechanical engineering, feasibility studies, fire protection engineering, interior design and space planning, land development, landscape architecture, maintenance management systems, master planning, site, structural and civil engineering, sustainable design (LEED certified design), and urban planning and design. Its defense market services include conservation conveyance, facilities planning, design and support, installation/site restoration and military construction program support. Its environmental market services includes cultural resources environmental engineering, permitting, investigation and restoration, environmental program management, environmental risk assessment, health, safety and environmental, multi-media compliance, natural resources and petroleum storage tank management. Its geospatial information technology market services includes application design and development asset management, consulting, data access and visualization, database development, global positioning system services, mobile LiDAR (light detection and ranging) data acquisition, surveying, mapping, data acquisition and processing, statewide broadband mapping, staffing support and systems integration.

The Company’s homeland security market services includes damage forecasting and loss estimation, debris management, emergency operations/response planning, evacuation and sheltering plans, hazard mitigation planning ,homeland security asset management, infrastructure damage assessments, infrastructure protection planning and design, interagency coordination and public outreach, logistics, resource inventories, risk-based strategic planning, security, threat, vulnerability and risk assessments, training and exercises. Its municipal and civil market services includes environmental engineering compliance hydrologic and hydraulic models and studies, municipal infrastructure engineering, site development plans and permitting, surface and deep mining permitting and reclamation, water/wastewater conveyance and treatment. The Company’s oil and gas market services includes, cold region engineering, energy development services (solar, wind, photovoltaic, geothermal and hydropower), environmental field services and permitting, feasibility and front end engineering design (FEED) studies, failure investigation and analysis, GIS development, gas well site development and permitting, operations and maintenance support, pipeline and facility design, program and project management and surveying, and mapping.

The Company’s telecom and utilities market services are environmental permitting, feasibility studies, geospatial information technology services, geotechnical engineering, project and program management, public safety and emergency services, right of way services, radio frequency studies, routine alignment design, site design structural analysis, staff augmentation and surveying and mapping. Its water market services are desalination, flood control, flood insurance rate maps and studies, floodplain delineation and studies, surface water design, stormwater management, stream stabilization/restoration, surface water quality and TMDL services, floodplain management and river engineering, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, source water supply and protection, water resources planning and asset management, watershed management and wetlands.

Many of the ancillary services the Company offers are provided to the entire spectrum of markets the Company serves. These services include, but are not limited to, geographic information systems, geotechnical engineering and design, services related to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), project and program management, construction management and inspection services, and general architectural and engineering consulting services.
