Bank of Montreal (BMO Financial Group), incorporated on March 15, 1995, is a diversified financial services provider that provides a range of retail banking, wealth management and investment banking products and services. It conducts business through a variety of corporate structures, including subsidiaries, joint ventures, associates and special purpose entities (SPEs). In May 2014, the Company acquired F&C Asset Management plc through owned subsidiary, BMO Global Asset Management (Europe) Ltd.
It conducts business through operating groups, including Personal and Commercial Banking (P&C) ; Wealth Management; Corporate Services, and BMO Capital Markets. Personal and Commercial Banking (P&C) consists of Personal and Commercial Banking Canada (P&C Canada) and Personal and Commercial Banking U.S. (P&C U.S).
Personal and Commercial Banking
Personal and Commercial Banking (P&C) consists of two operating segments: Canadian Personal and Commercial Banking and U.S. Personal and Commercial Banking. Canadian Personal and Commercial Banking (Canadian P&C) serves personal and commercial banking customers through an integrated national network of BMO Bank of Montreal branches, automated banking machines (ABMs), telephone, mobile and online banking, along with its mortgage specialists and financial planners. Personal banking provides financial solutions for everyday banking, financing, investing, credit cards and creditor insurance needs. Commercial banking provides small business, medium-sized enterprise and mid-market banking customers with a broad suite of integrated commercial and capital markets products, as well as financial advisory services.
U.S. Personal and Commercial Banking (U.S. P&C) offers a broad range of products and services to individuals and small and mid-sized business customers. Its retail and small and mid-sized business banking customers are served through its network of BMO Harris Bank branches, call centre, online and mobile banking platforms, and ABMs across eight states.
The Company’s wealth management businesses serves a full range of client segments from mainstream to ultra-high net worth and institutional, with a broad offering of wealth management products and solutions including insurance products. Wealth Management (WM) operates in both Canada and the United States, as well as in select global markets including Asia and Europe.
BMO Capital Markets
BMO Capital Markets (BMO CM) provides capital-raising, strategic advisory and risk management services. The Company also provides integrated sales, trading and research services to corporate, institutional, and government clients in Canada, the United States and select international locations.
Corporate Services consists of Corporate Units and Technology and Operations (T&O). Corporate Units provide enterprise-wide and governance support in a variety of areas, including strategic planning, risk management, finance, legal and compliance, marketing, communications and human resources. T&O manages, maintains and provides governance over information technology, operations services, real estate and sourcing for BMO Financial Group. The costs of Corporate Units and T&O services are largely transferred to the three client operating groups (P&C, WM and BMO CM), and only relatively minor amounts are retained in Corporate Services results.
