Citigroup Inc. (Citi), incorporated on March 8, 1988, is a financial services holding company. The Company's whose businesses provide consumers, corporations, governments and institutions with a range of financial products and services, including consumer banking and credit, corporate and investment banking, securities brokerage, trade and securities services and wealth management. The Company operates through two segments: Citicorp and Citi Holdings. Citicorp is the Company's global bank for consumers and businesses and represents its core franchises. Citicorp is focused on providing products and services to customers and leveraging the Company's global network, including various economies. As of December 31, 2016, Citicorp was present in 97 countries and jurisdictions, and offered services in over 160 countries and jurisdictions. Citicorp consists of the operating businesses, including Global Consumer Banking (consists of consumer banking businesses in North America, Latin America (consisting of Citi's consumer banking businesses in Mexico) and Asia), and Institutional Clients Group (which includes Banking and Markets and securities services).
Global Consumer Banking (GCB) provides traditional banking services to retail customers through retail banking, including commercial banking, and Citi-branded cards and Citi retail services. GCB was focused on its markets in the United States, Mexico and Asia with 2,649 branches in 19 countries, as of December 31, 2016. North America GCB provides retail banking, including commercial banking, and its Citi-branded cards and Citi retail services card products to retail customers and small to mid-size businesses, as applicable, in the United States. North America GCB's United States cards product portfolio includes its portfolio, including the Citi Double Cash, Thank You and Value cards, and co-branded cards, including, American Airlines and Hilton Worldwide within Citi-branded cards, as well as its co-brand and private label relationships within Citi retail services. As of December 31, 2016, North America GCB had 723 retail bank branches, which concentrated in six metropolitan areas of New York, Chicago, Miami, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Asia GCB provides traditional retail banking, including commercial banking, and its Citi-branded card products to retail customers and small to mid-size businesses. Asia GCB includes traditional retail banking and Citi-branded card products, which are provided to retail customers in certain Europe, the Middle East, and African (EMEA) countries, primarily in Poland, Russia and the United Arab Emirates. Latin America GCB provides traditional retail banking, including commercial banking, and its Citi-branded card products to retail customers and small to mid-size businesses in Mexico. As of December 31, 2016, Latin America GCB had 1,494 retail branches in Mexico.
Institutional Clients Group (ICG) provides corporate, institutional, public sector and high-net-worth clients with a range of wholesale banking products and services, including fixed income and equity sales and trading, foreign exchange, prime brokerage, derivative services, equity and fixed income research, corporate lending, investment banking and advisory services, private banking, cash management, trade finance and securities services. ICG transacts with clients in both cash instruments and derivatives, including fixed income, foreign currency, equity and commodity products.
