Cummins Inc., incorporated on February 3, 1919, is a manufacturer of diesel engines. The Company designs, manufactures, distributes and services diesel and natural gas engines and engine-related component products, including filtration, after treatment, turbochargers, fuel systems, controls systems, air handling systems and electric power generation systems. The Company operates through four segments: Engine, Distribution, Components and Power Generation. The Company sells its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors and other customers across the world. The Company serves its customers through a network of approximately 600 Company-owned and independent distributor locations and approximately 7,200 dealer locations in over 190 countries and territories. It has presence in the United States, China, India, South Korea, Mexico and Sweden.
The Company's Engine segment manufactures and markets a range of diesel and natural gas-powered engines under the Cummins brand name, as well as certain customer brand names, for the heavy-and medium-duty truck, bus, recreational vehicle (RV), light-duty automotive, agricultural, construction, mining, marine, oil and gas, rail and governmental equipment markets. The Company offers various engine products, including engines with a displacement range of 2.8 to 95 liters and horsepower ranging from 49 to 5,100; new parts and service, as well as remanufactured parts and engines, through its distribution network; over 5.0 liter V8 diesel engine, and approximately 95 liter QSK95 diesel engine.
The Engine segment is organized by engine displacement size and serves various markets, such as heavy-duty truck, medium-duty truck and bus, light-duty automotive, industrial and stationary power. It manufactures diesel engines that range from 310 to 600 horsepower serving heavy-duty truck customers. It also manufactures medium-duty diesel engines ranging from 200 to 450 horsepower serving medium-duty and inter-city delivery truck customers with markets, including North America, Latin America, Europe and Mexico. It provides diesel and natural gas engines for school buses, transit buses and shuttle buses across the world with markets, including North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia. It manufactures 105 to 385 horsepower diesel engines, including engines for the pickup truck market and light commercial vehicle (LCV) markets in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
The Company provides mid-range, heavy-duty and high-horsepower engines that range from 49 to 4,400 horsepower for a range of equipment in the construction, agricultural, mining, rail, government, oil and gas, power generation and commercial and recreational marine applications across the world. It has markets in North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, China, Korea, Japan, Latin America, India, Russia, Southeast Asia, South Pacific and Mexico. The Company provides mid-range, heavy-duty and high-horsepower engines that range from 60 to 5,100 horsepower to its power generation business for mobile and distributed power generation solutions across the world.
The Company's Distribution segment consists of various businesses, which service and/or distribute a range of its products and services, such as parts and filtration, power generation, engines and service. The Distribution segment's solutions include maintenance contracts, engineering services and integrated products. Its distributors also serve and develop dealers, predominantly OEM dealers, in their territories by providing products, technical support, tools, training, parts and product information.
The Company's Distribution segment consists of over 40 Company-owned and approximately five joint venture distributors that service and distribute its products and services to users at over 500 locations in approximately 80 distribution territories. The Company-owned distributors are located in markets, including North America, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, India, China, Africa, Russia, Japan, Brazil, Singapore and Central America, while its joint venture distributors are located in markets, including North America, South America, China, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
The Company's Components segment supplies products, including after treatment systems, turbochargers, filtration products and fuel systems for commercial diesel applications. The Company manufactures filtration systems for on- and off-highway heavy-duty and mid-range equipment, and supplies filtration products for industrial and passenger car applications. Its Components segment has various businesses: emission solutions, turbo technologies, filtration and fuel systems. Its emission solutions business designs, manufactures and integrates after treatment technology and solutions for the commercial on-and off-highway medium-duty, heavy-duty and high-horsepower engine markets. Its emission solutions business develops and produces various emission solutions, including custom engineering systems and integrated controls, oxidation catalysts, particulate filters, oxides of nitrogen (NOx) reduction systems, such as selective catalytic reduction and NOx adsorbers and engineered components, including dosers and sensors. Its emission solutions business primarily serves markets in North America, Europe, China, Brazil, Russia and Australia, and serves both OEM and engine first fit and retrofit customers.
The Company's turbo technologies business designs, manufactures and markets turbochargers for light-duty, mid-range, heavy-duty and high-horsepower diesel markets with manufacturing facilities in over five countries, and sales and distribution across the world. The Company's turbo technologies business provides air handling technologies for engines, including variable geometry turbochargers. Its turbo technologies business primarily serves markets in North America, Europe, Asia and Brazil. The Company's filtration business designs and manufactures filtration, coolant and chemical products.
The Company's filtration business offers over 8,300 products, including air filters, fuel filters, fuel water separators, lube filters, hydraulic filters, coolant, diesel exhaust fluid, fuel additives and other filtration systems to OEMs, dealers/distributors and end users. Its filtration business serves a range of markets, including on-highway, off-highway, oil and gas, agriculture, construction, power generation, marine, industrial and light-duty trucks. It produces and sells Fleetguard branded products in over 160 countries, including countries in North America, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and Africa. Its fuel systems business designs and manufactures new and replacement fuel systems for heavy-duty on-highway diesel engine applications, and also remanufactures fuel systems. The Components segment's customers include truck manufacturers and other OEMs.
Power Generation segment
The Company's Power Generation segment designs and manufactures components that make up power generation systems, including controls, alternators, transfer switches and switchgear. The Power Generation segment provides power generation systems, components and services for a customer base, including power solutions, distributed generation power solutions and mobile power solutions. The Power Generation segment includes businesses, such as power solutions, power systems and alternators. The Company's power products business manufactures generators for commercial and consumer applications ranging from 2 kilowatts to 3.5 megawatts, as well as paralleling systems and transfer switches for applications, such as data centers, healthcare facilities and waste water treatment plants. It also offers integrated systems that consist of generator sets, power transfer and paralleling switchgear for applications, such as data centers, healthcare facilities and waste water treatment plants.
The Company's alternator business designs, manufactures, sells and services alternating current (A/C) generator/alternator products internally, as well as to other generator set assemblers. The Company's products are sold under the Stamford, AVK and Markon brands. The Company's power solutions business includes turnkey solutions for distributed generation and energy management applications using natural or biogas as a fuel. The Company has markets in India, China, the United Kingdom, Western Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
