Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation, incorporated on April 6, 1988, is a provider of information technology (IT), consulting and business process services. The Company operates in four segments: Financial Services; Healthcare; Manufacturing, Retail and Logistics, and Other, which includes Communications, Manufacturing/Retail/Logistics, and High Technology. The Financial Services segment, which include banking and insurance; Healthcare segment, which includes healthcare and life sciences, and Manufacturing/Retail/Logistics segment, which includes manufacturing and logistics; retail, travel and hospitality, and consumer goods. The Companies competencies include business, process, operations and IT consulting, application development and systems integration, enterprise information management (EIM), application testing, application maintenance, IT infrastructure services (IT IS) and business process services (BPS).

The Company provides a range of consulting, information technology and outsourcing services, including consulting and technology services, and outsourcing services. The Company’s Cognizant business consulting (CBC) provides services, including IT strategy consulting, program management consulting, operations improvement consulting, strategy consulting and business consulting. CBC also offers services and capabilities in areas, such as BPS, supply chain management, enterprise analytics, EAS and consulting related to the management of assets and intellectual property (IP). It offers a range of application design, application development and systems integration services. As part of its application development services, it offers document specifications and design, develop, test and integrate software across multiple platforms, including Internet technologies. In addition, the services include ERP and CRM implementation services. As part of application development and systems integration offering is a suite of services. It specializes in various areas, such as Microsoft solutions; IBM, SAP, Oracle and Java applications; and Cloud Computing and Mobile solutions.

The Company helps its clients identify the types of data available both within their organizations and from outside sources, including social media. The EIM provides services, which include strategic, advisory and management consulting services across information management, business intelligence & analytics; enterprise data management, including the creation of data warehouses, data marts, operational stores, enterprise master data management platforms, enterprise metadata platforms and enterprise data governance; descriptive analytics/ business intelligence that involves the strategy, design, build and management of information assets that drive day-to-day decision making; strategic corporate performance management, which enables clients to create executive dashboards or scorecards to manage operations; packaged analytics, which is designed to provide solutions to specific business problems leveraging technologies, such as mobile and cloud, and big data services that assist clients in managing and deriving actionable insights.

The Company’s application testing practice offers a suite of services in testing, consulting and engineering. Its business-aligned services include system and integration testing, package testing, user acceptance, automation, performance testing and test data management addresses. Accordingly, among the functions it provides testing related to integration of SAP, Seibel and other systems, IT process and consulting, testing of customized mobile and cloud-based applications, and testing as a service. It focuses on its managed test centers on specific domains (such as specific industries and software solutions). It also offers services to enable cloud-based processes, from consulting and implementation to ongoing support activities. The Company develops, licenses, implements and supports third-party software products for the healthcare industry, including solutions for health insurance plans, third-party benefit administrators (TPAs) and healthcare providers.

The Company’s application maintenance service offering supports its client’s applications. It provides application value management solutions. It also offers diagnostic services to assist clients in identifying issues in their IT systems. It provides IT infrastructure management outsourcing services. The services it provides include data center, infrastructure security, network and convergence, end-user computing services and mobility. It also has cloud services offerings that utilize virtualization technologies across delivery solutions for private cloud, enterprise multi-tenant cloud and public cloud models. It provides BPS services through industry-aligned solutions that integrate process, domain and technology. Financial Services

The Company’s Financial Services segment serves financial institutions throughout the world. Its clients include banks, investment firms and insurance companies. This segment provides services to its customers operating in the industries, including banking and insurance. The Company serves traditional retail and commercial banks, financial enterprises, broker-dealers, asset management firms, depositories, clearing organizations and exchanges. It assists clients in, such as retail banking, wholesale banking, consumer lending, cards and payments, risk management, investment banking and brokerage, asset and wealth management, and securities services. In addition to application development and maintenance, it offers services in the sector, which include EIM, Testing, customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), BPS, IT IS, and business and technology consulting.

The Company serves property and casualty insurers, life insurers, reinsurance firms and insurance brokers. It focuses on aspects of its clients’ operations, such as business acquisition, policy administration, claims processing, management reporting, regulatory compliance and reinsurance. It also offers services in the sector, which include application development and integration, consulting, BPS, IT IS, EIM and digital services. In 2014, the Financial Services segment represented approximately 41.8% of its total revenues.


The Company’s Healthcare segment serves healthcare and life sciences companies. This segment provides services to its clients operating in the industries, such as healthcare and life sciences. Its healthcare business focuses on providing a range of services and solutions for emerging industry trends, such as Regulatory Compliance, including compliance with the Affordable Care Act and work related to state health insurance exchanges; integrated health management, including establishing health information exchanges; EIM; claims investigative services, which includes preventing fraud and abuse and administrative processes, and operational improvement in areas, such as claims processing, enrollment, membership and billing.

The segment’s Life Sciences solutions help to transform the business processes in the life sciences value chain (Research, Clinical Development, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Sales and Marketing), as well as regulatory and administrative functions and general IT. The services offered include consulting, EIM, customer solutions, BPS, IT IS, application maintenance, application development and systems integration, testing and digital services. It also serves a spectrum of life sciences companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consumer health and medical device industries. In 2014, its Healthcare segment represented approximately 26.2% of its total revenues.


The Company’s Manufacturing, Retail and Logistics segment provides outsourcing, business consulting and technology services in a range of sub-sectors, including industrial, automotive, process logistics, energy and utilities, and retail. This segment services customers in the industry groups, which include manufacturing and logistics; retail, travel and hospitality, and consumer goods.

The clients in manufacturing and logistics sector include manufacturers of automotive and industrial products, as well as processors of natural resources, chemicals and raw materials. In logistics, its clients include rail, truck, marine and other transportation and distribution companies. It also serves energy utilities, as well as oil and gas producers. Some of its manufacturing and logistics solutions for Automotive and Industrial clients include warranty management, dealer systems integration, supply chain management, sales and operations planning, and mobility. It offers services in the retail sector, which include Consulting, eCommerce, EAS, Systems Integration, testing, BPS and EIM. It also serves travel and hospitality industry, including airlines, hotels and restaurants, as well as online and retail travel, global distribution systems and intermediaries and real estate companies, providing solutions, such as CRM, EIM and BPS.

The segment’s consumer goods serve consumer durables, food and beverage, footwear and apparel, and home and personal care products. It also provide solutions, including application development and systems integration, consulting, CRM, EIM, testing, BPS, IT IS and digital services. In 2014, the Manufacturing/Retail/Logistics segment represented approximately 20.4% of its total revenues.


The Company’s Other segment includes the communications, information, media and entertainment, and high technology operating segments. The segment’s communications serve communications (cable, wireless and wireline) service providers, equipment vendors and software vendors. It helps its clients in the communications industry, such as transitioning to new network technologies; designing, developing, testing and introducing new products and channels; customer service and customer satisfaction; transforming business support systems (BSSs) and operations support systems (OSSs); transitioning to agile development methodologies; and enabling applications for cloud deployment. It provides solutions, including customer solutions, mobility, IT IS, testing, ERP implementation, EIM, and cloud services.

The segment’s information, media and entertainment serve media and entertainment companies, including information service providers, publishers, broadcasters, and movie, music and video game companies. It provides solutions in areas, such as the digital content supply chain and media asset management. Some of its other services include business solutions, such as advertising management, online media, and e-Business; digital distribution; workflow automation; intellectual property management; anti-piracy initiatives, and operational systems, such as advertising sales, studio management, billing and payments, content management and delivery.

The segment’s high technology serves independent software vendors (ISVs), technology equipment manufacturers and online service providers. It assist the ISVs with their transitions to new business models, such as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) models and facilitate their license management and sales processes. The other services it provide include CRM, Product Technical Support, Supply Chain Management and the application of digital technologies to the customer experience, as well as application development, systems integration and application maintenance. In 2014, the Other segment represented approximately 11.6% of its total revenues.
