Continental AG is an automotive supplier. The Company's segments include Chassis & Safety, Powertrain, Interior, Tires, ContiTech and Other/consolidation. The Chassis & Safety division develops, produces and markets intelligent systems. The Powertrain division integrates system solutions for the powertrains in vehicles of all classes. Interior division provides information management in vehicles and develops and produces information, communication and network solutions. Tires division offers safety through short braking distances and grip, as well as reducing fuel consumption. ContiTech division develops, manufactures and markets products for machine and plant engineering, mining, the automotive industry and other important industries.
Chassis & Safety Division
The Chassis & Safety division consists of four business units: Vehicle Dynamics, Hydraulic Brake Systems, Passive Safety & Sensorics, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. The Vehicle Dynamics business unit combines products and systems for lateral, longitudinal and vertical dynamics, which include scalable electronic brake systems and software solutions, as well as chassis electronics and air suspension systems. The Hydraulic Brake Systems business unit is a supplier of hydraulic brake systems. The business unit develops and manufactures solutions for braking technology and adapted actuation systems. The product portfolio comprises both conventional products, such as brake boosters and brake hoses, and a range of braking products, such as disk, parking and drum brakes, fixed calipers, as well as the electric parking brake (EPB).
The Passive Safety & Sensorics business unit combines vehicle-dynamics and vehicle-surroundings sensor systems with passive safety systems. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems business unit develops driver assistance systems. The systems assist drivers in everyday situations, such as parking or driving in slow-moving traffic. Furthermore, in hazardous situations, these systems warn the driver and intervene if and when necessary.
In the Powertrain division, the Company integrates system solutions for the powertrains in vehicles of various classes. The Company offers its customers a range of products, such as gasoline and diesel injection systems, turbochargers, engine management and transmission control systems (including sensors and actuators), exhaust aftertreatment and fuel supply systems, and components and systems for hybrid and electric drives. The Powertrain division consists of five business units: Engine Systems, Fuel & Exhaust Management, Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Sensors & Actuators and Transmission.
Engine Systems business unit develops and produces system solutions for combustion engines. Fuel & Exhaust Management business unit's product portfolio includes fuel delivery modules and components, as well as catalytic converters and systems for exhaust-gas aftertreatment and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) dosing. Hybrid Electric Vehicle business unit supplies main components for powertrain electrification in hybrid and electric vehicles. Sensors & Actuators business unit reduces emissions of carbon dioxide and pollutants. Transmission business unit develops and produces electronic and electromechanical control units for relevant transmission types and powertrain applications.
The Interior division develops and produces information, communication and network solutions. Its products, systems and services control flow of information-between the driver, passengers, mobile devices, and the vehicle on the one hand; and the environment, other vehicles, and the Internet of Everything on the other. The division consists of five business units: Instrumentation & Driver HMI, Infotainment & Connectivity, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Body & Security, and Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket.
Instrumentation & Driver HMI business unit's product range includes instrument clusters, instruments featuring color displays and head-up displays. It also provides central input devices, interior cameras, and integrated systems for cockpit modules. Infotainment & Connectivity business unit focuses on infotainment systems and the connection with the outside world. The main focus of development includes integrating entertainment solutions, linking mobile devices and telematics solutions. Intelligent Transportation Systems business unit integrates data for transport infrastructure, vehicles, and users utilizing information and communication technology, including applications that inform the driver about dangers or obstacles along the route; as well as travel, fleet, and traffic management features.
Body & Security business unit develops and produces electronic systems that enable access to the vehicle, make key-interlock systems reliable, and ensure the availability of vehicle safety and convenience features. Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket business unit combines the various activities in the commercial and special-purpose vehicles segment, as well as the trade activities in the replacement part business.
The Tire division consists of six business units: Passenger and Light Truck Tire Original Equipment, which includes three business units, namely, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), North, Central and South America (The Americas) and Asia and Pacific region (APAC); Commercial Vehicle Tires, and Two-Wheel Tires. The Passenger and Light Truck Tire Original Equipment business unit represents the Company's global business with automobile manufacturers. The product range also includes various run-flat systems. The Company markets its tire products under various brands, such as Continental, Uniroyal, Semperit, General Tire, Viking, Gislaved, Euzkadi, Sime Tyres, Mabor and Matador. The Commercial Vehicle Tires business unit provides a range of truck, bus and special-purpose tires. The product portfolio of the Two-Wheel Tires business unit ranges from city, trekking, mountain-bike and racing tires through to motorcycle tires (scooter, enduro, and high-performance road tires).
The ContiTech division supplies technical elastomer products and offers plastics technology. It develops, produces and sells functional parts, components, and systems for machine and plant engineering, mining, the automotive industry, and other important industries. ContiTech division consists of nine business units: Air Spring Systems, Benecke-Kaliko Group, Compounding Technology, Conveyor Belt Group, Elastomer Coatings, Industrial Fluid Systems, Mobile Fluid Systems, Power Transmission Group and Vibration Control. Air Spring Systems business unit focuses on components and complete systems for self-adjusting air suspension in commercial vehicles, buses, rail vehicles, stationary machines and foundation bearings. Air actuators and rubber expansion joints are manufactured for plant and machine engineering. Benecke-Kaliko Group business unit works in a close development partnership with the automotive industry and other industries to manufacture technical, decorative and customizable surface materials. Compounding Technology business unit supplies internal and external customers with rubber compounds and sheets for a range of applications. The material is the basis for a range of rubber products.
Conveyor Belt Group business unit is a development partner, manufacturer and systems supplier of steel-cord and textile conveyor belts, service material and special products for various industries. It also offers a global belt installation and maintenance service. Elastomer Coatings business unit offers printing blankets, diaphragm materials and diaphragms, materials for life rafts and protective clothing, as well as wetsuits, flexible tanks and gas holder diaphragms. Industrial Fluid Systems business unit develops and produces hoses and hose systems for small trade and construction, the food and beverage industry, chemical and petrochemical production, as well as for water treatment, mining, steel manufacture and machine engineering. Mobile Fluid Systems business unit develops and produces hoses made from elastomers and plastics, as well as hose lines and tubing made of steel, stainless steel and aluminum adapted to individual assemblies and components for the automotive and commercial vehicle industry. Power Transmission Group business unit supplies products and systems that are used in the automotive industry, as well as in machine and plant construction, from drive belts and matched components through to belt drive systems. Vibration Control business unit offers noise and vibration control, and sealing technology for the automotive industry and industrial vehicles, as well as for machinery, plants, and motors in various industrial sectors.
