Simpana Software Modules
Simpana software consists of five different data and information management software application modules. Simpana software modules share a common platform that provides back-end services and capabilities, like encryption; integrated source and target data deduplication; content indexing; policy-based automation; data classification; e-discovery and role-based security. Simpana software is built upon an single platform architecture that consists of a policy engine that enables customers to set rules to automate the management of data; a data movement engine that transports data using network communication protocols; a catalog engine that contains a global database describing the nature of all data, such as the users, applications and storage with which it is associated; an index engine that systematically identifies and organizes all data, users and devices accessible to its software modules, and a media management engine that controls, catalogs and moves data to the tier of storage including disk, tape, optical and cloud storage devices.
Simpana software application modules include backup and recovery, archive, replication, storage resource management and search. The Simpana backup and recovery application module delivers reliable data protection, recovery options and data retention capabilities for both enterprise protection, as well as small- and medium-business protection. The Simpana archive application is an integrated data archiving solution, with built-in tiered storage and multi-platform support including Microsoft Exchange servers, IBM Lotus systems, and Microsoft SharePoint data. Archiving network attached storage (NAS), e-mail and file system data reclaims space on primary storage.
The Simpana replication application module enables enterprises to create replica copies of production data. Its replication hardware snapshot integration provides customers with storage area network (SAN) investment protection and choice, eliminating the backup window and accelerating recovery. The Company’s SRM software solution is integrated into backup and archive operations. Simpana search software serves multiple stakeholders, such as legal or compliance teams, records managers, knowledge workers, as well as information technology (IT) teams and end-users. Simpana Analyze application module delivers robust, built-in reporting analytics that enables infrastructure cost planning, provide insight into operations and simplify compliance audits. Simpana software provides software with deep operational reporting integrated into both archive and backup operations.
From planning to deployment to operations, CommVault offers a set of technical services, training and support options. The Company’s customer support services consist of: real-time support, network and hardware expertise, global operations and enhanced support options. It also provides a range of other professional services that include assessment and design services, implementation and post-deployment services and training services. The Company has also developed and maintains a knowledge library of storage systems.
The Company’s global customer support headquarters is located at its technical support center in Oceanport, New Jersey. CommVault also has established support operations in Reading, the United Kingdom; Sydney, Australia, and Shanghai, China. The Company offers several enhanced customer support services, such as business critical support (BCS), remote operations management service (ROMS) and residency services. The Company also provides Consulting Services, Implementation and Post-deployment Services and Education Services.
