E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont), incorporated on October 4, 1915, is a science and technology-based company. The Company consists of over 10 businesses aggregated into six segments, which include Agriculture, Electronics & Communications (E&C), Industrial Biosciences, Nutrition & Health, Performance Materials and Safety & Protection. The Company is also involved in other businesses, such as pre-commercial programs, nonaligned businesses and pharmaceuticals in other. It conducts research and development (R&D) programs in various fields, including agriculture, biology, chemistry, engineering and materials science.
The Company's Agriculture segment includes DuPont Pioneer (Pioneer) and DuPont Crop Protection (Crop Protection). The segment's businesses deliver a portfolio of products and services, including Pioneer brand seed products and other brands of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. Its R&D focuses on productivity, and value of grains and oil seeds through seed traits, seed germplasm and use of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides.
Pioneer markets and sells seed products under the Pioneer brand and also sells and distributes products under additional brand names. Pioneer is involved in developing, producing and marketing corn hybrids and soybean varieties. In addition, Pioneer develops, produces and markets canola, sunflower, sorghum, inoculants, wheat and rice. Pioneer's research and development focuses on integrating high-yielding germplasm with native and biotechnology traits with local environment and service. Pioneer develops integrated products for regional application based on local product advancement and testing of the product concepts. Pioneer holds various biotechnology trait licenses from third parties. The biotechnology traits licensed by Pioneer from third parties are contained in a variety of Pioneer crops, including corn hybrids and soybean varieties.
Crop Protection serves the production agriculture industry with crop protection products for field crops, such as wheat, corn, soybean and rice, and specialty crops, such as fruit, nut, vine and vegetables. Crop protection products are used for weed control, disease control and insect control offerings under foliar application or as a seed treatment. Crop Protection products are marketed and sold to growers and other end users through a network of wholesale distributors and crop input retailers. It offers DuPont Rynaxypyr insecticide for agricultural crops.
Electronics & Communications
The Company's E&C segment is a supplier of differentiated materials and systems for photovoltaic (PV), consumer electronics, displays and printing. In PV market, E&C supplies metallization pastes and backsheet materials. The segment has a portfolio of materials for semiconductor fabrication and packaging, as well as materials for circuit applications. In the consumer electronics markets, E&C materials are used across multiple devices, such as smart phones and tablets. In packaging graphics, E&C is a supplier of flexographic printing systems, including Cyrel photopolymer plates and platemaking systems. The segment supplies pigmented inks used in digital printing applications for commercial and home office use. In the displays market, E&C has developed solution-process technology, which it licenses, and includes a range of materials for active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) television displays.
The Company's Industrial Biosciences segment is involved in developing and manufacturing a portfolio of bio-based products. The segment's enzymes are used in products and processes across various markets, such as animal nutrition, detergents, food manufacturing, ethanol production and industrial applications. Industrial Biosciences also makes DuPont Sorona PTT renewably sourced polymer for use in carpet and apparel fibers. The Company's BioPDO 1,3 propanediol product, which is produced using fermentation and purification is a building block for DuPont Sorona PTT polymer.
Nutrition & Health
The Company's Nutrition & Health segment includes a range of bio-based ingredients and molecular diagnostic solutions, offering solutions for specialty food ingredients, food nutrition, health and safety. The segment's product solutions include a range of DuPont Danisco food ingredients, such as cultures, Howaru probiotics, emulsifiers, texturants; natural sweeteners, such as Xivia, and Supro soy-based food ingredients. Nutrition & Health serves various end markets within the food industry including dairy, bakery, meat and beverage. Nutrition & Health has research, production and distribution operations around the world. Nutrition & Health products are marketed and sold under various brand names.
The Company's Performance Materials segment includes DuPont Performance Polymers (Performance Polymers) and DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers (Packaging & Industrial Polymers), and provides its customers with polymer science solutions and application development assistance. Its solutions include productive, performance polymers, elastomers, films, parts, and systems and solutions. It serves market segments, such as automotive and transportation, packaging for food and beverages, electrical or electronic components, material handling, healthcare, construction, semiconductor and aerospace. The segment has customers in the motor vehicle original equipment manufacturer (OEM) industry supply chain.
Performance Materials product portfolio includes elastomers and thermoplastic and thermoset engineering polymers used by customers to fabricate components for mechanical, chemical and electrical systems. The segment's products include DuPont Zytel long chain polymers, Zytel HTN nylon resins, Zytel nylon resins, Crastin PBT polymer resins, Rynite polymer resins, Delrin acetal resins, Hytrel polyester thermoplastic elastomer resins, Vespel parts and shapes, Vamac ethylene acrylic elastomer and Kalrez perfluoroelastomer. Performance Materials also specializes in resins and films used in packaging and industrial polymer applications, sealants and adhesives, and sporting goods, including brands, such as DuPont Surlyn ionomer resins, Bynel coextrudable adhesive resins, Elvax EVA resins, Nucrel Elvaloy polymer modifiers and Elvaloy copolymer resins. Performance Materials product portfolio includes the DuPont Teijin Films joint venture products, such as are Mylar and Melinex polyester films.
Safety & Protection
The Company's Safety & Protection segment includes DuPont Protection Technologies (Protection Technologies), DuPont Building Innovations (Building Innovations) and DuPont Sustainable Solutions (Sustainable Solutions). The segment offers solutions to businesses, governments and consumers. The segment delivers products and services to various markets, including construction, transportation, communications, industrial chemicals, oil and gas, electric utilities, automotive, manufacturing, defense, homeland security and safety consulting.
Protection Technologies is focused in scientifically engineered products and systems to protect people and the environment. Protection Technologies offers brands, such as DuPont Kevlar high strength material, Nomex thermal resistant material and Tyvek protective material.
Building Innovations includes DuPont Corian and Montelli lines of products, which offer materials for residential and commercial purposes. DuPont Tyvek offers industry solutions for the protection and energy efficiency of buildings. Building Innovations also offers Geotextiles for Professional Landscaping applications.
Sustainable Solutions helps organizations to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities. Sustainable Solutions is involved in safety consulting field, selling training products, as well as consulting services. Additionally, Sustainable Solutions' offerings help in reducing sulfur and other emissions, formulating cleaner fuels or disposing of liquid waste. Sustainable Solutions provides process technology, equipment and technical services to the sulfuric acid industry.
