Data Domain, Inc., incorporated in October 2001, is a provider of deduplication storage systems for backup, archive and other nearline applications. Data Domain deduplication storage systems are designed to deliver solutions that enable enterprises of all sizes to manage, retain and protect their data. In addition to its storage systems, the Company provides global product support, as well as software updates to customers that purchase a support and services contract, and it offers professional services. The Company provides professional services, global support solutions and customer education, and training to help customers to manage their backup and archive data. The Company’s systems are based on data domain operating system (DD OS) software, which is optimized for data protection and disaster recovery and supports network attached storage, or NAS, virtual tape library (VTL), and Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage (OST), environments. The Company’s systems can be purchased in a variety of configurations of storage capacity and performance. As of July 22, 2009, EMC Corporation had acquired approximately 94.2% interest in Data Domain, Inc.

DD500 and DD600 series of fabric-attached enterprise storage systems are designed to consolidate backup and archive data in central locations using standard connection fabrics: Ethernet (1 and 10 giabyte) and FibreChannel. The core elements of the Company’s technology and system architecture include Global Compression, High-speed, Inline Deduplication, Data Invulnerability Architecture, Replication, Nearline and Archive, and Adaptable Design. As of December 31, 2008, the total number of customers that had purchased the Company’s appliances since inception was approximately 2,900 customers worldwide from a variety of industries, including defense, education, entertainment, finance, government, healthcare, technology, legal, media and retail.

The Company competes with Sun Microsystems, Inc., Quantum Corporation, EMC Corporation, NetApp, Inc., Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company and International Business Machines Corporation.
