Dynegy Inc., incorporated on September 13, 2006, is a holding company, which conducts its business operations through its subsidiaries. The Company's principal business is the production and sale of electric energy, capacity and ancillary services from its fleet of over 30 power plants in approximately eight states totaling approximately 26,000 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity. The Company operates through three segments: Coal, Illinois Power Holdings, LLC (IPH) and Gas. The Company's Coal segment includes certain of its coal-fired power generation facilities and its Dynegy Energy Services, LLC retail business. The Company's IPH segment includes Illinois Power Generating Company (Genco) and Illinois Power Resources Generating, LLC (IPRG), which also own, directly and indirectly, certain of its coal-fired power generation facilities. IPH also includes its Homefield Energy retail business in Illinois. The Company's Gas segment includes substantially all of its natural gas-fired power generation facilities.
The Company sells electric energy, capacity and ancillary services on a wholesale basis from its power generation facilities. It also serves residential, municipal, commercial and industrial customers in through its Homefield Energy and Dynegy Energy Services retail businesses. The Company operates its business with a range of customers, including regional transmission organization (RTOs) and independent system operator (ISOs), integrated utilities, municipalities, electric cooperatives, transmission and distribution utilities, power marketers, financial participants, such as banks and hedge funds and residential, and commercial and industrial end users, among others.
The Company's Coal segment comprises over 10 coal-fired power generation facilities located in Illinois, Massachusetts and Ohio with a total generating capacity of over 8,420 MW. Baldwin, Havana, Hennepin, and Wood River facilities, located in Illinois, operate in Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO) with an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 3,010 MW. Conesville, Killen, Kincaid, Miami Fort, Stuart and Zimmer facilities, located in Illinois and Ohio, operate in PJM Interconnection, LLC (PJM) with an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 3,880 MW. Brayton Point facility, located in Massachusetts, operates in Independent System Operator New England (ISO-NE) and has an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 1,530 MW.
Illinois Power Holdings, LLC
The Company's IPH segment comprises approximately five coal-fired power generation facilities located in Illinois with a total generating capacity of approximately 4,180 MW and operates in MISO. Joppa, which is within the Electric Energy, Inc. (EEI) control area, is interconnected to Tennessee Valley Authority and Louisville Gas and Electric Company but sells its capacity and energy to MISO. It offers a portion of its IPH segment generating capacity into PJM.
The Company's Gas segment comprises over 20 power generation facilities located in California, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine, totaling over 13,590 MW of electric generating capacity. Its Dicks Creek, Elwood, Fayette, Hanging Rock, Kendall, Lee, Liberty, Ontelaunee, Richland, Stryker and Washington facilities, located in Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania, operate in PJM with an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 7,340 MW. Its Casco Bay, Dighton, Lake Road, Masspower and Milford facilities, located in Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut, operate in ISO-NE and have an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 2,430 MW. Its Moss Landing and Oakland facilities, located in California, operate in California Independent System Operator (CAISO) with an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 2,690 MW. Its Independence facility, located in New York, operates in the Rest of State market and has an aggregate net generating capacity of approximately 1,130 MW.
