EDP Energias de Portugal SA (EDP) is a Portugal-based company engaged in the electric energy and gas sectors. The Company develops its activities in the business areas of generation, supply and distribution of electricity and supply and distribution of gas. The Company operates through six business units: Electricity Generation, Renewable Energies, Electricity Distribution, Electricity Supply, Gas and Brazil Operations. EDP is also present in electricity generation, supply and distribution in Brazil, Spain and the United States. In April 2008, the Company acquired EDP Renovaveis through Nuevas Energias de Occidente (NEO). In February 2008, Horizon Wind Energy, LLC, EDP’s 100%-owned subsidiary for United States wind operations, acquired from Hydra Energy, LLC, a portfolio of six early stage projects in an aggregate of 1,050 megawatts of wind capacity, located in the States of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, the United States.
