Equinix, Inc. (Equinix), incorporated on June 22, 1998, connects businesses with partners and customers worldwide through a global platform of data centers. The Company connects approximately 4000 customers, across the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific. Platform Equinix combines international business exchange (IBX) data centers, a global footprint and ecosystems. The Company offers each customer a choice of business partners and solutions based on their colocation, interconnection and managed IT service needs. Equinix offers customers direct interconnection to an aggregation of bandwidth providers, including the Internet Service Providers (ISPs), broadband access networks (DSL/cable) and international carriers. Its customers include carriers and other bandwidth providers, cloud and information technology (IT) services providers, content providers, financial companies and global enterprises. In July 2014, it acquired ALOG Data Centers of Brazil S.A.
The Company’s IBX data centers provide its customers with an environment for Internet commerce interconnection. Within its IBX data centers, customers can place their equipment and interconnect with a choice of networks or other business partners. It also provides solutions for customers looking to package its IBX services as part of their solutions. Its colocation products and services include Cabinets, Power and IBXflex. Equinix’s customers have a number of choices for colocating their networking, server and storage equipment. They can place the equipment in one of its shared or private cages or customize their space. In certain markets, customers can purchase their own suite, which is walled off from the rest of the data center. Customers buy the hardware they place in the Company’s IBX data centers directly from their chosen vendors. The Company offers both alternate current (AC) and direct current (DC) power circuits at various amperages and phases customized to a customer’s individual power requirements. It also offers metered power in certain markets. IBXflex allows customers to deploy operations personnel and equipment onsite at its IBX data centers.
The Company’s interconnection services enable interconnection and traffic exchange between Equinix customers. These interconnection services are either on a one-to-one basis with direct cross connects or one-to-many through one of the Company’s Equinix Exchange services. The Company’s customers needing to directly and privately connect to another IBX data center customer can do so through single or multi-mode fiber. These cross connections are the physical link between customers and can be implemented within 24 hours of request. Customers may choose to connect to and peer through the central switching fabric of the Company’s Equinix Internet Exchange. With a connection to this switch, a customer can aggregate multiple interconnects over one physical connection with up to multiple, linked 10 gigabit ports of capacity. The Company’s Equinix Metro Connect allows customers to interconnect between IBX data centers at capacities up to an OC-192, or 10 gigabits per second level. Equinix offers the Ethernet Exchange service, which is similar to the Equinix Internet Exchange in 17 markets where customers can connect via a central switching fabric to interconnect between multiple Carrier Ethernet Providers rather than creating individual Network to Network interfaces (NNIs) between individual carriers.
Managed IT Infrastructure Services
The Company’s IBX centers are staffed with Internet and telecommunications specialists available around the clock.
