Farmer Bros. Co., incorporated on February 17, 2004, is a manufacturer, wholesaler and distributor of coffee, tea and culinary products. The Company's customers include restaurants, hotels, casinos, offices, quick service restaurants (QSRs), convenience stores, healthcare facilities and other foodservice providers, as well as private brand retailers in the QSR, grocery, drugstore, restaurant, convenience store and independent coffee house channels. The Company distributes its products in two ways: through its nationwide Direct-Store-Delivery (DSD) network of approximately 470 delivery routes, 111 branch warehouses and around five distribution centers, and through the distribution channels of its national account and institutional customers.
The Company offers value-added services to its foodservice customers, including beverage equipment installation and service; menu solutions, wherein the Company recommends products, how these products are prepared in the kitchen and presented on the menu, and inventory and product procurement management. These services are conducted primarily in person through route sales representatives (RSRs), who develop personal relationships with chefs, restaurant owners and food buyers at their delivery locations. The Company also provides coffee programs to its national account customers, including private brand development, green coffee procurement, category management and supply chain management.
The Company manufactures and distributes products under its owned brands, as well as under private labels on behalf of certain customers. Its owned brand products are sold primarily into the foodservice channel. The Company's primary brands include Farmer Brothers, Artisan Collection by Farmer Brother, Superior, Metropolitan, Cain's and McGarvey. Its product line of approximately 2,700 stock keeping units (SKUs) includes roasted coffee, liquid coffee, coffee-related products, such as coffee filters, sugar and creamers, assorted iced and hot teas, cappuccino, cocoa, spices, gelatins and puddings, soup bases, dressings, gravy and sauce mixes, pancake and biscuit mixes, and jellies and preserves. The Company owns around 153 registered trademarks, which are integral to customer identification of its products.
The Company competes with Folgers Coffee, Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc., Maxwell House Coffee, Sysco Corporation, U.S. Foods, S&D Coffee & Tea, Boyd Coffee Company, Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., Rogers Family Company, Distant Lands Coffee, Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, Inc., Starbucks Coffee Company, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Costco, Sam's Club and Restaurant Depot.
